नरनारायणस्थाने पवित्रितमहीतले मन्मना मत्प्रसादेन तत्र सिद्धिम् अवाप्स्यसि
There, on the sanctified earth at the abode of Nara and Nārāyaṇa, with your mind fixed on me and by my grace, you shall attain perfection.
अहं स्वर्गं गमिष्यामि उपसंहृत्य वै कुलम् द्वारकां च मया त्यक्तां समुद्रः प्लावयिष्यति
I shall go to heaven, having withdrawn the clan; and the sea will flood Dvārakā, abandoned by me.
इत्य् उक्तः प्रणिपत्यैनं जगाम स तदोद्धवः नरनारायणस्थानं केशवेनानुमोदितः
Thus addressed, Uddhava bowed to him and departed to the abode of Nara and Nārāyaṇa, with Keśava's approval.
ततस् ते यादवाः सर्वे रथान् आरुह्य शीघ्रगान् प्रभासं प्रययुः सार्धं कृष्णरामादिभिर् द्विजाः
Then all the Yādavas, mounting swift chariots, went to Prabhāsa together with Kṛṣṇa, Rāma, and others, O twice-born.
प्राप्य प्रभासं प्रयता प्रीतास् ते कुक्कुरान्धकाः चक्रुस् तत्र सुरापानं वासुदेवानुमोदिताः
Having reached Prabhāsa, the Kukuras and Andhakas, purified and joyful, drank liquor there, with Vāsudeva's consent.
पिबतां तत्र वै तेषां संघर्षेण परस्परम् यादवानां ततो जज्ञे कलहाग्निः क्षयावहः
As they drank there, a quarrel arose among the Yādavas from their mutual friction, and from that was born a fire of conflict, bringing destruction.
जघ्नुः परस्परं ते तु शस्त्रैर् दैवबलात् कृताः क्षीणशस्त्रास् तु जगृहुः प्रत्यासन्नाम् अथैरकाम्
By the force of fate, they struck each other with weapons; when their weapons were exhausted, they seized the nearby stalks of eraka grass.
एरका तु गृहीता तैर् वज्रभूतेव लक्ष्यते तया परस्परं जघ्नुः संप्रहारैः सुदारुणैः
The eraka grass, seized by them, appeared like thunderbolts; with it, they struck each other in exceedingly fierce combat.
प्रद्युम्नसाम्बप्रमुखाः कृतवर्माथ सात्यकिः अनिरुद्धादयश् चान्ये पृथुर् विपृथुर् एव च
Pradyumna, Sāmba, Kṛtavarmā, Sātyaki, Aniruddha, and others, as well as Pṛthu and Vipṛthu,
चारुवर्मा सुचारुश् च तथाक्रूरादयो द्विजाः एरकारूपिभिर् वज्रैस् ते निजघ्नुः परस्परम्
Cāruvarmā, Sucāru, Akrūra and others, O twice-born, struck each other with the eraka stalks that had become like thunderbolts.
निवारयाम् आस हरिर् यादवास् ते च केशवम् सहायं मेनिरे प्राप्तं ते निजघ्नुः परस्परम्
Hari tried to restrain the Yādavas, but they regarded Keśava as an ally who had come; yet they struck each other.
कृष्णो ऽपि कुपितस् तेषाम् एरकामुष्टिम् आददे वधाय तेषां मुशलं मुष्टिलोहम् अभूत् तदा
Kṛṣṇa, angered at them, took up a fistful of eraka grass; for their destruction, that grass then became an iron club.
जघान तेन निःशेषान् आततायी स यादवान् जघ्नुश् च सहसाभ्येत्य तथान्ये तु परस्परम्
With that weapon, the assailant slew all the Yadavas without exception; and others, too, suddenly attacked one another and struck each other down.
ततश् चार्णवमध्येन जैत्रो ऽसौ चक्रिणो रथः पश्यतो दारुकस्याशु हृतो ऽश्वैर् द्विजसत्तमाः
Then, in the midst of the ocean, the victorious chariot of the wielder of the discus was swiftly carried away by the horses as Daruka looked on, O best of twice-born.
चक्रं गदा तथा शार्ङ्गं तूणौ शङ्खो ऽसिर् एव च प्रदक्षिणं ततः कृत्वा जग्मुर् आदित्यवर्त्मना
The discus, the mace, likewise the Sharnga bow, the quivers, the conch, and the sword—all these, after circumambulating, departed by the path of the sun.
क्षणमात्रेण वै तत्र यादवानाम् अभूत् क्षयः ऋते कृष्णं महाबाहुं दारुकं च द्विजोत्तमाः
In but a moment, there was destruction among the Yadavas there, except for mighty-armed Krishna and Daruka, O best of Brahmins.
चङ्क्रम्यमाणौ तौ रामं वृक्षमूलकृतासनम् ददृशाते मुखाच् चास्य निष्क्रामन्तं महोरगम्
As the two moved about, they saw Rama seated at the root of a tree, and from his mouth a great serpent was emerging.
निष्क्रम्य स मुखात् तस्य महाभोगो भुजंगमः प्रयातश् चार्णवं सिद्धैः पूज्यमानस् तथोरगैः
Emerging from his mouth, that great serpent, the mighty snake, proceeded toward the ocean, being worshipped by the Siddhas and also by the Nagas.
तम् अर्घ्यम् आदाय तदा जलधिः संमुखं ययौ प्रविवेश च तत्तोयं पूजितः पन्नगोत्तमैः दृष्ट्वा बलस्य निर्याणं दारुकं प्राह केशवः
Then the ocean, taking an offering, came forward to meet him and entered that water, being honored by the foremost of serpents. Seeing Balarama's departure, Krishna spoke to Daruka.
इदं सर्वं त्वम् आचक्ष्व वसुदेवोग्रसेनयोः निर्याणं बलदेवस्य यादवानां तथा क्षयम्
Go and report all this to Vasudeva and Ugrasena—the departure of Balarama and the destruction of the Yadavas.
योगे स्थित्वाहम् अप्य् एतत् परित्यज्य कलेवरम् वाच्यश् च द्वारकावासी जनः सर्वस् तथाहुकः
I too, established in yoga, will now abandon this body; and all the people of Dvaraka, as well as Ahuka, must be informed.
यथेमां नगरीं सर्वां समुद्रः प्लावयिष्यति तस्माद् रथैः सुसज्जैस् तु प्रतीक्ष्यो ह्य् अर्जुनागमः
When the ocean floods this entire city, then, with well-prepared chariots, you must await the coming of Arjuna.
न स्थेयं द्वारकामध्ये निष्क्रान्ते तत्र पाण्डवे तेनैव सह गन्तव्यं यत्र याति स कौरवः
No one should remain in Dvaraka after the Pandava has departed; with him, you must go wherever that Kaurava leads.
गत्वा च ब्रूहि कौन्तेयम् अर्जुनं वचनं मम पालनीयस् त्वया शक्त्या जनो ऽयं मत्परिग्रहः
Go and tell Arjuna, son of Kunti, these words of mine: 'To the best of your ability, you must protect these people, who are under my care.'
इत्य् अर्जुनेन सहितो द्वारवत्यां भवाञ् जनम् गृहीत्वा यातु वज्रश् च यदुराजो भविष्यति
Thus, together with Arjuna, you shall lead the people out of Dvaraka, and Vajra will become king of the Yadus.
इत्य् उक्तो दारुकः कृष्णं प्रणिपत्य पुनः पुनः प्रदक्षिणं च बहुशः कृत्वा प्रायाद् यथोदितम्
Thus addressed, Daruka repeatedly bowed to Krishna, circumambulated him many times, and departed as instructed.
स च गत्वा तथा चक्रे द्वारकायां तथार्जुनम् आनिनाय महाबुद्धिं वज्रं चक्रे तथा नृपम्
He went and did accordingly in Dvaraka, and brought the wise Arjuna, and made Vajra king as well.
भगवान् अपि गोविन्दो वासुदेवात्मकं परम् ब्रह्मात्मनि समारोप्य सर्वभूतेष्व् अधारयत्
The Blessed Govinda, too, placing his supreme self, which is the essence of Vasudeva, in the Supreme Brahman, established it in all beings.
स मानयन् द्विजवचो दुर्वासा यद् उवाच ह योगयुक्तो ऽभवत् पादं कृत्वा जानुनि सत्तमाः
Honoring the words of the sage Durvasa, which he had spoken, he entered into yoga, O best of Brahmins, placing his foot upon his knee.
संप्राप्तो वै जरा नाम तदा तत्र स लुब्धकः मुशलशेषलोहस्य सायकं धारयन् परम्
Then, at that moment, old age arrived there in the form of a hunter, bearing an arrow made from the remaining iron of the club.
