मायया युयुधे तेन स तदा मन्त्रचोदितः ततश् च पन्नगास्त्रेण बबन्ध यदुनन्दनम्
Then, by means of illusion, empowered by mantras, he fought with him and bound the son of Yadu with the serpent-missile.
द्वारवत्यां क्व यातो ऽसाव् अनिरुद्धेति जल्पताम् यदूनाम् आचचक्षे तं बद्धं बाणेन नारदः
In Dvārakā, as the Yadus murmured, 'Where has Aniruddha gone?', Nārada informed them that he had been bound by Bāṇa.
तं शोणितपुरे श्रुत्वा नीतं विद्याविदग्धया योषिता प्रत्ययं जग्मुर् यादवा नाम वैरिति
Hearing that he had been taken to Śoṇitapura by a woman skilled in magical arts, the Yādavas, called 'enemies' by name, became convinced.
ततो गरुडम् आरुह्य स्मृतमात्रागतं हरिः बलप्रद्युम्नसहितो बाणस्य प्रययौ पुरम्
Then Hari, together with Balarāma and Pradyumna, mounted Garuḍa, who came at the mere thought, and went to Bāṇa's city.
पुरीप्रवेशे प्रमथैर् युद्धम् आसीन् महाबलैः ययौ बाणपुराभ्याशं नीत्वा तान् संक्षयं हरिः
At the entrance to the city, a battle took place with the mighty Pramathas; Hari destroyed them and advanced near Bāṇa's city.
ततस् त्रिपादस् त्रिशिरा ज्वरो माहेश्वरो महान् बाणरक्षार्थम् अत्यर्थं युयुधे शार्ङ्गधन्वना
Then the great Māheśvara fever, three-legged and three-headed, fought fiercely with the wielder of Śārṅga to protect Bāṇa.
तद्भस्मस्पर्शसंभूततापं कृष्णाङ्गसंगमात् अवाप बलदेवो ऽपि समं संमीलितेक्षणः
Touched by the heat produced from its ashes and by contact with Kṛṣṇa's body, Baladeva too was equally affected, his eyes closing.
ततः संयुध्यमानस् तु सह देवेन शार्ङ्गिणा वैष्णवेन ज्वरेणाशु कृष्णदेहान् निराकृतः
Then, as he fought with the god bearing the Śārṅga bow, the Vaiṣṇava fever swiftly drove out the Māheśvara fever from Kṛṣṇa's body.
नारायणभुजाघातपरिपीडनविह्वलम् तं वीक्ष्य क्षम्यताम् अस्येत्य् आह देवः पितामहः
Seeing him distressed by the blows of Nārāyaṇa's arms, the god Pitāmaha said, 'Let him be forgiven.'
ततश् च क्षान्तम् एवेति प्रोच्य तं वैष्णवं ज्वरम् आत्मन्य् एव लयं निन्ये भगवान् मधुसूदनः
Then, saying, 'He is indeed forgiven,' Bhagavān Madhusūdana absorbed that Vaiṣṇava fever into himself.
मम त्वया समं युद्धं ये स्मरिष्यन्ति मानवाः विज्वरास् ते भविष्यन्तीत्य् उक्त्वा चैनं ययौ हरिः
'Those mortals who remember your battle with me shall be free from fever,' said Hari to him, and departed.
ततो ऽग्नीन् भगवान् पञ्च जित्वा नीत्वा क्षयं तथा दानवानां बलं विष्णुश् चूर्णयाम् आस लीलया
Then Bhagavān, having conquered the five fires and destroyed them, likewise crushed the strength of the Dānavas with ease.
ततः समस्तसैन्येन दैतेयानां बलेः सुतः युयुधे शंकरश् चैव कार्त्तिकेयश् च शौरिणा
Then, with his entire army, the son of Bali among the Daityas fought, as did Śaṃkara and Kārttikeya, with the valiant Kṛṣṇa.
हरिशंकरयोर् युद्धम् अतीवासीत् सुदारुणम् चुक्षुभुः सकला लोकाः शस्त्रास्त्रैर् बहुधार्दिताः
The battle between Hari and Śaṃkara was exceedingly fierce; all the worlds were shaken, tormented by countless weapons and missiles.
प्रलयो ऽयम् अशेषस्य जगतो नूनम् आगतः मेनिरे त्रिदशा यत्र वर्तमाने महाहवे
The gods thought, 'Surely, the dissolution of the entire universe has now come,' as that great battle raged on.
जृम्भणास्त्रेण गोविन्दो जृम्भयाम् आस शंकरम् ततः प्रणेशुर् दैतेयाः प्रमथाश् च समन्ततः
With the Jṛmbhaṇa missile, Govinda caused Śaṃkara to yawn; then the Daityas and the Pramathas were subdued on all sides.
जृम्भाभिभूतश् च हरो रथोपस्थम् उपाविशत् न शशाक तदा योद्धुं कृष्णेनाक्लिष्टकर्मणा
Overcome by the Jṛmbhaṇa, Hara sat down upon his chariot; at that moment, he was unable to fight with Kṛṣṇa, whose deeds are effortless.
गरुडक्षतबाहुश् च प्रद्युम्नास्त्रेण पीडितः कृष्णहुंकारनिर्धूतशक्तिश् चापययौ गुहः
Garuda, his arms wounded, was afflicted by Pradyumna's weapon; Guha, his power shaken by Kṛṣṇa's roar, withdrew.
जृम्भिते शंकरे नष्टे दैत्यसैन्ये गुहे जिते नीते प्रमथसैन्ये च संक्षयं शार्ङ्गधन्वना
With Śaṃkara overcome by yawning, the Daitya army destroyed, Guha defeated, and the Pramatha forces brought to ruin by the wielder of Śārṅga,
नन्दीशसंगृहीताश्वम् अधिरूढो महारथम् बाणस् तत्राययौ योद्धुं कृष्णकार्ष्णिबलैः सह
Bāṇa, mounting his great chariot yoked with horses harnessed by Nandīśa, came there to fight, together with the forces of Kṛṣṇa and the Kārṣṇis.
बलभद्रो महावीर्यो बाणसैन्यम् अनेकधा विव्याध बाणैः प्रद्युम्नो धर्मतश् चापलायतः
The mighty Balabhadra struck the army of Bāṇa in many ways with arrows; Pradyumna, acting righteously, scattered them.
आकृष्य लाङ्गलाग्रेण मुशलेन च पोथितम् बलं बलेन ददृशे बाणो बाणैश् च चक्रिणः
With the tip of his plough he drew them in, and with his mace he struck them down; Bāṇa saw his forces being destroyed by the arrows of the wielder of the discus.
ततः कृष्णस्य बाणेन युद्धम् आसीत् समासतः परस्परं तु संदीप्तान् कायत्राणविभेदिनः
Then, a direct battle took place between Kṛṣṇa and Bāṇa; both, blazing with fury, sought to shatter each other's bodies.
कृष्णश् चिच्छेद बाणांस् तान् बाणेन प्रहिताञ् शरैः बिभेद केशवं बाणो बाणं विव्याध चक्रधृक्
Kṛṣṇa cut down those arrows of Bāṇa with his own shafts; Bāṇa wounded Keśava, and the wielder of the discus pierced Bāṇa.
मुमुचाते तथास्त्राणि बाणकृष्णौ जिगीषया परस्परक्षतिपरौ परिघांश् च ततो द्विजाः
Thus, Bāṇa and Kṛṣṇa released weapons against each other, desiring victory, each intent on injuring the other, and also hurled iron clubs, O twice-born ones.
छिद्यमानेष्व् अशेषेषु शस्त्रेष्व् अस्त्रे च सीदति प्राचुर्येण हरिर् बाणं हन्तुं चक्रे ततो मनः
As all the weapons and missiles were being destroyed, and Bāṇa was faltering, Hari resolved in his mind to slay Bāṇa.
ततो ऽर्कशतसंभूततेजसा सदृशद्युति जग्राह दैत्यचक्रारिर् हरिश् चक्रं सुदर्शनम्
Then Hari, the enemy of the Daitya armies, whose radiance equaled that of a hundred suns, took up the Sudarśana discus.
मुञ्चतो बाणनाशाय तच् चक्रं मधुविद्विषः नग्ना दैतेयविद्याभूत् कोटरी पुरतो हरेः
As the slayer of Madhu released that discus to destroy Bāṇa, a naked woman, born of Daitya magic, appeared before Hari.
ताम् अग्रतो हरिर् दृष्ट्वा मीलिताक्षः सुदर्शनम् मुमोच बाणम् उद्दिश्य छेत्तुं बाहुवनं रिपोः
Seeing her standing before him, Hari closed his eyes and released the Sudarśana discus, aiming to cut off the multitude of the enemy's arms.
क्रमेणास्य तु बाहूनां बाणस्याच्युतचोदितम् छेदं चक्रे ऽसुरस्याशु शस्त्रास्त्रक्षेपणाद् द्रुतम्
Then, at the urging of Acyuta, the arms of Bāṇa were swiftly severed one by one, as the demon rapidly hurled weapons and missiles.
