So be it, as you wish; you will be unconquerable among all gods and demons, O tiger among men, in the world of mortals.
Then immediately, Satyabhama, bowing again and again, addressed Diti, who was together with Shachi.
By my grace, O beautiful-browed one, you will not suffer old age or disfigurement; you will be flawless in form and possess all desires.
With Aditi's permission, the king of the gods worshipped Janardana with great honor and proper reverence.
Then Krishna, accompanied by Satyabhama, beheld all the divine gardens, O best ones, including Nandana and others.
He saw a celestial tree, rich in fragrance, bearing clusters of blossoms, bringing coolness and delight, adorned with shining copper-colored leaves.
When the nectar was churned, the Parijata tree arose, radiant like gold; Lord of the world, Kesava, slayer of Kesi, saw it. Upon seeing it, Satyabhama spoke to Govinda, O best of twice-born.
Why is this tree not taken to Dvaraka, O Krishna? If your word is truly dear to me, let it be fulfilled.
Let this tree be brought to my house for the purpose of the courtyard. Neither Jambavati nor Rukmini is as dear to me as this.
As you have often said, 'You are true,' O Krishna, if that is so, O Govinda, let your words not be mere courtesy.
Let this Parijata be my home's ornament. Wearing its blossom in my hair amidst my co-wives, I wish to shine.
Thus addressed, Hari laughed and placed the Parijata upon Garuda. The guardians of the garden spoke to him.
O Govinda, you must not take the Parijata tree, which is the possession of Shachi, queen of the lord of gods.
This tree was produced by the gods during the churning of nectar for Shachi's adornment; you will not find safety if you take it.
Out of folly you desire safety after taking it; who would depart with it? Certainly, Indra will react, O Krishna.
Indra, with thunderbolt raised, will be followed by the Maruts. Enough of conflict with all the gods, O Achyuta; actions with bitter results are not praised by the wise.
When they spoke thus, Satyabhama, greatly angered, replied to them.
Who is Shachi to the Parijata, or who is Shakra, lord of the gods? If it arose from the churning of nectar, it is common to all worlds.
If it was produced long ago, why does only Vasava claim it? As the nectar, as the moon, as Shri, O guardians of the garden.
The Parijata tree is common to all worlds; yet, out of her husband's great pride, Shachi blocks it.
Go quickly and tell Paulomi my words: Satyabhama speaks thus, with words proud from her husband's glory.
If you are your husband's beloved, if you are truly dear to him, then stop my husband from taking the tree.
I know your husband is Śakra, lord of the gods; I know the Pārijāta tree—yet, even so, I will take it from you, O woman.
Thus addressed, the guards went and loudly reported everything as it had happened; then Śacī began to incite her husband, the lord of the gods.
Then, surrounded by the armies of all the gods, Hari was challenged by Indra, O twice-born, to battle for the Pārijāta.
Then the gods, armed with iron clubs, swords, maces, and spears, stood ready, while Śakra, wielder of the thunderbolt, took his position.
Then Govinda, seeing Śakra stationed atop the king of serpents, surrounded by the assembly of gods and ready for battle, prepared himself.
He sounded his conch, filling the directions with its noise, and released a multitude of arrows, numbering in the thousands and tens of thousands.
Then, seeing the quarters and the sky filled with hundreds of arrows, all the gods released their many weapons and missiles.
Each and every weapon and missile launched by the gods, the Lord, slayer of Madhu, effortlessly cut down a thousandfold.
