That noble, devoted wife, like Draupadī of old, left the delicate boy, who cried on the mountain slope.
For compassion toward him, clouds appeared for the great-souled one; Śraviṣṭhā had two sons, Paippalādi and Kauśika.
Seeing him, the compassionate pair took him, washed him in water, and rubbed his sides on a stone, so that they were soaked in blood.
He became dark as a goat, well-composed, with his sides rubbed; his sides became goat-dark by the action of the gods.
Then, they named him Ajapārśva; he was raised in Remaka's house by the two Brahmins.
Remaka's wife took him as her son for the sake of having a child; he became the son of Rematī, and the two Brahmins were his counselors.
Their sons and grandsons lived together, equally; this is the Paurava lineage of the great-souled Pāṇḍavas.
A verse was also sung here by Nāhuṣa's son Yayāti, wise and pleased, regarding the transmission of old age.
This earth would certainly become without moon, sun, or planets; but the earth will never be without the Pauravas.
This renowned Paurava lineage has been described to you by me; now I will tell you of Turvasu, Druhyu, Anu, and Yadu.
Turvasu's son was Vahni; Gobhānu was his son; Gobhānu's son was King Aiśānu, unconquered.
Aiśānu's son was Karaṃdhama; Marutta was his son; another king, Āvikṣita, and Marutta have been described by me.
The king became childless, though a performer of sacrifices with abundant gifts; his daughter was named Saṃyatā, ruler of the earth.
For the sake of sacrificial gifts, she was given to the great-souled Saṃvarta; she obtained a faultless son, Duṣyanta, of the Paurava line.
Thus, by the curse of Yayati, at that time, the transmission of old age entered the Paurava and Turvasu lineages, O best of twice-born.
The heir of Duṣyanta was Karūroma, lord of people; from Karūroma came Ahrīda, and he had four sons.

Aṅgārasetu was his son, called the lord of the Maruts; in battle, he was slain with difficulty by Yauvanāśva, though mighty.
A great war took place, lasting ten months; the heir of Aṅgārasetu was a king named Gāndhāra.
By whose name the vast region of Gāndhāra is known; and the horses born in Gāndhāra are renowned as the best among steeds.
Ano's son was Dharma; Dyūta was Dharma's son; from Dyūta was born Vanaduha, and Pracetās was his son.
Pracetasa's son was Sucetā; thus the descendants of Anu are recounted by me; and Yadu had five sons, all comparable to sons of the gods.
Sahasrāda, Payoda, Kroṣṭā, Nīla, and Añjika likewise; Sahasrāda had three heirs, all supremely righteous.

Dharmanetra's son was Kārta; Sāhañja was his son; the city named Sāhañjanī was founded by that king.
Mahiṣmata's son was Bhadraśreṇya, renowned for his prowess; Bhadraśreṇya's heir was the famous Durdamā.
Durdamā's wise son was named Kanaka; Kanaka had four heirs, famed throughout the world.
Kṛtavīrya, Kṛtaujā, Kṛtadhanvan, and Kṛtāgni were the four; from Kṛtavīrya came Arjuna.

He who, with a thousand arms, became lord of the seven continents; alone, he conquered the earth with a chariot shining like the sun.
He performed austerity for ten thousand years, a most difficult penance; Kārtavīrya, born of Atri, thus pleased the giver.
