भूमाव् आस्फोटयाम् आस गगने गतजीवितम् भूमाव् आस्फोटितस् तेन चाणूरः शतधा भवन्
Dashed him to the ground, his life departed into the sky; struck to the earth, Chanura was shattered into a hundred pieces.
रक्तस्रावमहापङ्कां चकार स तदा भुवम् बलदेवस् तु तत्कालं मुष्टिकेन महाबलः
He made the earth a great mire of flowing blood; at that moment, the mighty Baladeva—
युयुधे दैत्यमल्लेन चाणूरेण यथा हरिः सो ऽप्य् एनं मुष्टिना मूर्ध्नि वक्षस्य् आहत्य जानुना
Fought with the demon wrestler Mushtika, just as Hari had with Chanura; he struck him with his fist on the head and chest, and with his knee.
पातयित्वा धरापृष्ठे निष्पिपेष गतायुषम् कृष्णस् तोशलकं भूयो मल्लराजं महाबलम्
Having thrown him to the ground, he crushed him, lifeless; Krishna then again fought with the mighty wrestler king, Toshalaka.
वाममुष्टिप्रहारेण पातयाम् आस भूतले चाणूरे निहते मल्ले मुष्टिके च निपातिते
With a blow of his left fist, he struck him down to the earth; with Chanura slain and Mushtika laid low—
नीते क्षयं तोशलके सर्वे मल्लाः प्रदुद्रुवुः ववल्गतुस् तदा रङ्गे कृष्णसंकर्षणाव् उभौ
When Toshalaka was destroyed, all the wrestlers fled; then Krishna and Sankarshana both leapt about in the arena.
समानवयसो गोपान् बलाद् आकृष्य हर्षितौ कंसो ऽपि कोपरक्ताक्षः प्राहोच्चैर् व्यायतान् नरान्
The two, delighted, forcibly seized the cowherds of equal age; Kamsa too, his eyes reddened with anger, loudly addressed the exhausted men.
गोपाव् एतौ समाजौघान् निष्क्रम्येतां बलाद् इतः नन्दो ऽपि गृह्यतां पापो निगडैर् आशु बध्यताम्
These two cowherds must be driven out from this assembly by force; seize that wicked Nanda as well, and quickly bind him in chains.
अवृद्धार्हेण दण्डेन वसुदेवो ऽपि वध्यताम् वल्गन्ति गोपाः कृष्णेन ये चेमे सहिताः पुनः
Let Vasudeva also be killed with a punishment unfit for his age; and all these cowherds who are with Krishna, let them too be bound.
गावो ह्रियन्ताम् एषां च यच् चास्ति वसु किंचन एवम् आज्ञापयन्तं तं प्रहस्य मधुसूदनः
Let their cows be taken away, and whatever wealth they possess; as he thus commanded, Madhusudana laughed.
उत्पत्यारुह्य तन्मञ्चं कंसं जग्राह वेगितः केशेष्व् आकृष्य विगलत्किरीटम् अवनीतले
Leaping up, he swiftly mounted that platform and seized Kamsa by the hair, pulling him down so his crown slipped off onto the ground.
स कंसं पातयाम् आस तस्योपरि पपात च निःशेषजगदाधारगुरुणा पततोपरि
He threw Kamsa down and fell upon him, his weight bearing down with the force that upholds the entire world.
कृष्णेन त्याजितः प्राणान्न् उग्रसेनात्मजो नृपः मृतस्य केशेषु तदा गृहीत्वा मधुसूदनः
By Krishna, the king, son of Ugrasena, gave up his life; then Madhusudana took hold of the dead Kamsa by the hair.
चकर्ष देहं कंसस्य रङ्गमध्ये महाबलः गौरवेणातिमहता परिपातेन कृष्यता
With great strength, he dragged Kamsa's body into the middle of the arena, the body being pulled with tremendous force and weight.
कृता कंसस्य देहेन वेगितेन महात्मना कंसे गृहीते कृष्णेन तद्भ्राताभ्यागतो रुषा
Thus, by the mighty one, Kamsa's body was swiftly handled; as Krishna seized Kamsa, his brother approached in anger.
सुनामा बलभद्रेण लीलयैव निपातितः ततो हाहाकृतं सर्वम् आसीत् तद् रङ्गमण्डलम्
Sunama was playfully struck down by Balabhadra; then, throughout the entire arena, there arose a great outcry.
अवज्ञया हतं दृष्ट्वा कृष्णेन मथुरेश्वरम् कृष्णो ऽपि वसुदेवस्य पादौ जग्राह सत्वरम्
Seeing the lord of Mathura slain with contempt by Krishna, Krishna at once grasped Vasudeva's feet.
देवक्याश् च महाबाहुर् बलदेवसहायवान् उत्थाप्य वसुदेवस् तु देवकी च जनार्दनम् स्मृतजन्मोक्तवचनौ ताव् एव प्रणतौ स्थितौ
The mighty-armed Krishna, together with Baladeva, raised up Vasudeva and Devaki; Janardana, remembering their words at his birth, stood there with them, both bowing.
प्रसीद देवदेवेश देवानां प्रवर प्रभो तथावयोः प्रसादेन कृताभ्युद्धार केशव
Be gracious, Lord of gods, supreme among the gods, O master; by your favor, O Keshava, we have been delivered.
आराधितो यद् भगवान् अवतीर्णो गृहे मम दुर्वृत्तनिधनार्थाय तेन नः पावितं कुलम्
The Blessed Lord, worshipped, has descended into my house for the destruction of the wicked; by this, our lineage has been purified.
त्वम् अन्तः सर्वभूतानां सर्वभूतेष्व् अवस्थितः वर्तते च समस्तात्मंस् त्वत्तो भूतभविष्यती
You are the inner self of all beings, abiding in all creatures; all that exists is your essence, and from you comes all that was and will be.
यज्ञे त्वम् इज्यसे ऽचिन्त्य सर्वदेवमयाच्युत त्वम् एव यज्ञो यज्वा च यज्ञानां परमेश्वर
In sacrifice, you are worshipped, O inconceivable one, composed of all the gods, Achyuta; you alone are the sacrifice, the sacrificer, and the supreme lord of sacrifices.
सापह्नवं मम मनो यद् एतत् त्वयि जायते देवक्याश् चात्मज प्रीत्या तद् अत्यन्तविडम्बना
Whatever denial arises in my mind toward you, O son of Devaki, out of affection, is the highest delusion.
त्वं कर्ता सर्वभूतानाम् अनादिनिधनो भवान् क्व च मे मानुषस्यैषा जिह्वा पुत्रेति वक्ष्यति
You are the creator of all beings, beginningless and endless; yet how will my human tongue call you 'son'?
जगद् एतज् जगन्नाथ संभूतम् अखिलं यतः कया युक्त्या विना मायां सो ऽस्मत्तः संभविष्यति
O Lord of the universe, from whom this entire world has arisen—by what means, without your own Māyā, could anything come into being from us?
यस्मिन् प्रतिष्ठितं सर्वं जगत् स्थावरजङ्गमम् स कोष्ठोत्सङ्गशयनो मनुष्याज् जायते कथम्
In whom all things, both moving and unmoving, are established—how could that one, who lies upon the couch of the cosmic egg, be born from a human?
स त्वं प्रसीद परमेश्वर पाहि विश्वम् अंशावतारकरणैर् न ममासि पुत्रः आब्रह्मपादपमयं जगद् ईश सर्वं चित्ते विमोहयसि किं परमेश्वरात्मन्
Therefore, be gracious, Supreme Lord, protect the world! Through your partial descents you act, but you are not my son. O Lord, you bewilder the minds of all, from Brahmā down to a blade of grass—why do you do this, O Supreme Self?
मायाविमोहितदृशा तनयो ममेति कंसाद् भयं कृतवता तु मयातितीव्रम् नीतो ऽसि गोकुलम् अरातिभयाकुलस्य वृद्धिं गतो ऽसि मम चैव गवाम् अधीश
With vision deluded by Māyā, I thought, 'He is my son,' and out of fear of Kaṃsa I endured intense anxiety. You were taken to Gokula, lord of cows, and have grown up there, while I remained helpless.
कर्माणि रुद्रमरुदश्विशतक्रतूनां साध्यानि यानि न भवन्ति निरीक्षितानि त्वं विष्णुर् ईशजगताम् उपकारहेतोः प्राप्तो ऽसि नः परिगतः परमो विमोहः
The deeds of Rudra, the Maruts, the Aśvins, and Indra—though they strive, they cannot accomplish what you do. You, Viṣṇu, Lord of the worlds, have come for our benefit, and we are enveloped in supreme bewilderment.
तौ समुत्पन्नविज्ञानौ भगवत्कर्मदर्शनात् देवकीवसुदेवौ तु दृष्ट्वा मायां पुनर् हरिः
Then, Devakī and Vasudeva, having attained knowledge by witnessing the deeds of the Blessed Lord, saw Māyā again through Hari's power.
