Friends, look at Krishna's face, lotus-eyed, adorned with drops of sweat from the exertion of elephant combat.
His face blooms like a lotus moistened by dew, and the birth of the eyes is fulfilled by beholding him, surpassing all words.
Behold the child marked with Śrīvatsa, the abode of the world; O fair one, see his chest, the destroyer of enemies, and his pair of arms.
See how Balabhadra's laughter arises as he is engaged by Muṣṭika, Cāṇūra, and others; observe it subtly.
Friends, see how Hari approaches Cāṇūra for wrestling; are there not elders here who act appropriately?
Where is Hari, youthful and delicate in form, and where is this great demon, whose body is hard as thunder?
These two, graceful and in the prime of youth, stand in the arena, while the demon wrestlers, led by Cāṇūra, are exceedingly fierce.
This is a great transgression among wrestling experts, that the fight between two youthful boys is being watched indifferently by those in the middle.
Thus, as he spoke before the three worlds, shaking the earth, the blessed Lord Hari showered forth great joy and exultation upon the people.
Balabhadra too, leaping and stamping gracefully at every step, did not cause the earth to break—how wondrous that was!
Then Krishna, of boundless valor, fought with Chanura, while the demon Mushtika, skilled in wrestling, battled with Baladeva.
Hari and Chanura engaged in close combat, exchanging blows with fists and hurling each other, striking as if with thunderbolts.
Their great battle was fought without weapons, fierce and terrifying, as they struck each other with feet and pressed with their limbs.
As long as Chanura fought with Hari, exerting all his strength and life in the midst of the festival assembly, the contest continued.
Until the utmost loss of life was reached, neither showed kinship; Krishna, the embodiment of the universe, fought with him playfully.
Seeing the fatigue and anger as they struck with their remaining strength, and observing the decline and increase of power in Chanura and Krishna,
Kamsa, intent on wrath, ordered the drums and other instruments to be silenced at once.
Yet, in the sky, many divine drums resounded: 'Victory to Govinda! Slay Chanura! Destroy the demon, O Keshava!'
Thus, the gods, hidden from view, joyfully praised him; after playing with Chanura for a long time, Madhusudana—
Uprooted and whirled him around, preparing to kill him; spinning the demon wrestler a hundred times, the conqueror of foes—
Dashed him to the ground, his life departed into the sky; struck to the earth, Chanura was shattered into a hundred pieces.
He made the earth a great mire of flowing blood; at that moment, the mighty Baladeva—
Fought with the demon wrestler Mushtika, just as Hari had with Chanura; he struck him with his fist on the head and chest, and with his knee.
Having thrown him to the ground, he crushed him, lifeless; Krishna then again fought with the mighty wrestler king, Toshalaka.
With a blow of his left fist, he struck him down to the earth; with Chanura slain and Mushtika laid low—
When Toshalaka was destroyed, all the wrestlers fled; then Krishna and Sankarshana both leapt about in the arena.
The two, delighted, forcibly seized the cowherds of equal age; Kamsa too, his eyes reddened with anger, loudly addressed the exhausted men.
These two cowherds must be driven out from this assembly by force; seize that wicked Nanda as well, and quickly bind him in chains.
Let Vasudeva also be killed with a punishment unfit for his age; and all these cowherds who are with Krishna, let them too be bound.
Let their cows be taken away, and whatever wealth they possess; as he thus commanded, Madhusudana laughed.
