Because you offer praise to the liberating field known as Purushottama, it is certain that no other field upon this earth can compare to Purushakhya. O foremost among the wise, you honor it again and again, recognizing its unique greatness. Indeed, O best of sages, what you have said is entirely true: there is truly no field on earth equal to Purushakhya. All the holy places and sacred abodes that exist throughout the world do not amount even to a sixteenth part of the sanctity and merit found in Shri Purushakhya. Just as Vishnu stands supreme among all the worlds, so too is Purushottama foremost among all holy places. As Vishnu is acclaimed as the best among the Adityas, so is Purushottama the greatest among all sacred fields. Among the stars, Soma shines most brilliantly, and among all waters, the ocean is the greatest—likewise, Purushottama surpasses all holy places. Among the Vasus, Pavaka is preeminent; among the Rudras, Shankara is supreme; in the same way, Purushottama stands above all sacred fields. The Brahmana is highest among castes, Garuda among birds, Meru among peaks, Himalaya among mountains; so too is Purushottama the foremost among holy places. Lakshmi is the most exalted among women, Jahnavi among rivers, Airavata among elephants, and Bhrigu among great sages—so, Purushottama is the best among all holy fields. Skanda is chief among commanders, Kapila among Siddhas, Ucchaishravas among horses, and Ushanas among poets; in the same way, Purushottama is unrivaled among sacred places. Vyasa is foremost among sages, Kubera among Yakshas and Rakshasas; the mind is supreme among the senses, and the earth among beings—all these illustrate how Purushottama excels among holy places. The Ashvattha is the greatest among trees, the wind among moving things; the crest-jewel is the best among ornaments; just so, Purushottama is the most excellent among all sacred fords. Citraratha is chief among the Gandharvas, the thunderbolt among weapons; the letter 'A' is foremost among all letters, and the Gayatri among Vedic meters—so is Purushottama the most distinguished among sacred fords. The head is the highest among all limbs, Arundhati among virtuous women, and the knowledge of liberation is supreme among all branches of wisdom; thus, Purushottama stands as the best among all sacred fords. The king is foremost among men, Kamadhenu among cows, gold among gems, Vasuki among serpents; just so, Purushottama is the most eminent among all sacred fords. Prahlada is foremost among Daityas, Rama among wielders of weapons, the makara among aquatic creatures, and the lion among beasts—so is Purushottama the most excellent among sacred fords. The ocean of milk is the best among seas, the lord among rivers, Varuna among aquatic beings, Yama among controllers; likewise, Purushottama is the highest among all sacred fords. Narada is the foremost among divine sages, gold among metals, the sacrificial fee among purifications; Purushottama is equally eminent among all sacred fields. Daksha is lord among progenitors, Kashyapa among seers, the sun among planets, and pranava among mantras; Purushottama too is the most excellent among all sacred fords. The Ashvamedha is declared the highest among sacrifices, grain among herbs, the lord of grasses among grasses; Purushottama is the most eminent among all sacred fords. Just as the righteousness of all sacred waters helps one cross the ocean of worldly existence, so, among all the holy places, the Supreme Person—Purushottama—is the highest. O best of the twice-born, consider the fruits of all sacred waters, holy places, recitations, sacrifices, vows, austerities, and gifts. Truly, O Brahmins, nothing on earth equals Purushottama; why speak at length, repeating this truth again and again? Verily, verily, and once more verily, that field is supremely great. By merely seeing the place called the Supreme Person even once, one is purified as if immersed in the ocean itself. Having once attained the knowledge of Brahman, there is no return to the womb of rebirth; for in the supreme abode, where Hari himself is present, in the place of the Supreme Person, liberation is assured. One should worship there for a year, or even for just a month; whatever is recited, whatever is offered, any great austerity performed there—all such acts are supremely meritorious in that sacred field of Purushottama.
