In the sacred tradition, the holy places and waters of Bharata are remembered and revered, each holding its own divine significance and power. There is the lake of the immortals, Koṭitīrtha, whose waters are sanctified by celestial presence, and the renowned Śrīkuñja, where the spirit finds peace. Śālitīrtha, famed for its purity, and the illustrious Naimiṣa, a site of spiritual merit, are counted among these sacred spots. Further, Brahmasthāna stands as a seat of the creator, while Somatīrtha, Kanyātīrtha, Brahmatīrtha, Manastīrtha, and the holy grove of Kārupāvana each shine with their own sanctity. Saugandhikavana, fragrant and blessed, Maṇitīrtha, Sarasvatī’s sacred flow, the excellent and purifying Īśānatīrtha, and the place of the five sacrifices are all celebrated among seekers. Triśūladhāra, Māhendra—the established abode of the gods—Śākambharī, Devatīrtha, and the golden lake Suvarṇa are places where the divine dwells. Kṣīraśrava, Virūpākṣa, Bhṛgutīrtha, Kuśodbhava, Brahmatīrtha, Brahmayoni, and Nīlaparvata are known for their spiritual potency. Kubjāmbaka and Bhadravaṭa, the seat of sage Vasiṣṭha, the gate of heaven and the gate of beings, and the hermitage of Kālī are remembered as thresholds to higher worlds. Rudrāvarta, Sugandhāśva, Kapilāvana, Bhadrakarṇa Lake, and Śaṅkukarṇa Lake are sanctuaries for purification. The seven Sarasvatas, Auśanasa tīrtha, Kapālamocana, Avakīrṇa, and Kāmyaka are places where merit accrues. Catuḥsāmudrika, Śataka, Sahasrika, Reṇuka, Pañcavaṭaka, Vimocana, and Ojas are sites of liberation and strength. Sthāṇutīrtha, Kuru’s tīrtha, the gate of heaven, Kuśadhvaja, Viśveśvara, Mānavaka, the well, and Nārāyaṇa’s refuge offer solace and sanctuary to pilgrims. Gaṅgāhrada, the banyan tree, Badarīpāṭana, Indramārga, Ekarātra, and Kṣīrakāvāsa are places where the divine current flows. Somatīrtha, Dadhīca, Śrutatīrtha, Koṭitīrthasthalī, and Bhadrakālī Lake are sites where the wise gather. Arundhatīvana, supreme Brahmāvarta, Aśvavedī, Kubjāvana, and the source of the Yamunā mark the origins of sacred rivers and traditions. Vīra, Pramokṣa, the excellent Sindhu, Ṛṣa, Kulyā, Sakṛttika, Urvīsaṃkramaṇa, and the origin of Māyāvidyā are remembered for their mystical powers. Mahāśrama, Vaitasikārūpa, Sundarikāśrama, Bāhutīrtha, the beautiful river, and Vimalāśoka are places where sages have meditated. The tīrtha of Pañcanada, the wise Markaṇḍeya’s place, Somatīrtha, Sitoda, and Matsyodarī tīrtha are sanctified by the presence of great souls. Sūryaprabha, Sūryatīrtha, Aśokavana, Aruṇāspada, Kāmada, and Śukratīrtha with its sands are radiant with spiritual light. Piśācamocana, Subhadrā Lake, the pool of Vimaladaṇḍa, and Caṇḍeśvara tīrtha are places of liberation from afflictions. The sacred Jyesthasthana lake, holy Brahmasara, the cave of Jaigishavya, and the grove of Harikesa are havens for meditation. Ajāmukha lake, Ghantakarna lake, Pundarika lake, and the well of Karkotaka are sanctuaries of healing. The golden well, Svetatirtha lake, the pool of Ghargharika, and the dark well of Candrika are places where mysteries unfold. The cremation ground pillar well, Vinayaka lake, the well born of the Sindhu, and again the holy Brahmasara are sites of transformation. The abode of Rudra, Nagatirtha, Pulomaka, the devotee’s lake, the milk lake, the abode of the departed, and Kumāraka are revered by seekers of moksha. Brahmavarta, Kushavarta, the Dadhikarṇa well, Shringa tirtha, the great tirtha, the foremost tirthas, and the great river are celebrated for their spiritual grandeur. The divine, holy Brahmasara, the imperishable banyan at the head of Gaya, the southern and northern Gomaya, and Rupashitika are remembered in sacred lore. The Kapila lake, vulture banyan, Savitri lake, Prabhasana, forest of Sita, gateway of the womb, and Dhenuka are places of auspicious beginnings. Dhanyaka, Kokila, Matanga lake, the ancestral well, Rudra tirtha, Indra tirtha, and Sumalina are sanctified by the presence of ancestors and gods. The seat of Brahma, the seven pools, jewel-lake, Kaushiki, Bharata, the tirtha, and Jyeshthalika are places where wisdom flourishes. Vishveshvara, Kalpasara, Kanyasamvetya, Nishchiva, Prabhava, and the hermitage of Vasiṣṭha are sanctuaries for ascetics. Devakuta and its well, the hermitage of Vasiṣṭha, the hermitage of heroes, Brahmasara, Brahmavira, and Avakapili are places where valor and virtue are nurtured. The stream of Kumara, stream of Shri, peak of Gauri, pool of Shunah, the tīrtha, and Nandi tīrtha are sites of divine manifestation. The abode of Kumara, abode of Shri, earth-cooling tīrtha, Kumbhakarna lake, and Kaushiki lake are places of comfort and devotion. Dharma tirtha, Kama tirtha, Uddalaka tīrtha, Sandhya tirtha, Karatoya, Kapila, and the Red Ocean are sites of ritual and fulfillment. The source of the Shona, bamboo thicket, Rishabha, Kala tirtha, lake of Punyavati, the tīrtha, and hermitage of Badarika are sanctuaries for sages. Rama tirtha, forest of ancestors, Viraja tirtha, forest of Markandeya, Krishna tirtha, and the banyan are places of remembrance and reverence. The foremost well of Rohini, lake of Indradyumna, Sanu garta, Samahendra, Shri tirtha, and the Shri river are places where blessings flow. Iṣutīrtha, Vārṣabha, pool of Kaveri, Kanyātīrtha, Gokarṇa, and the place of the Gāyatrī are sites of sacred recitation. The pool of Badarī, another sacred pool, the central place Vikarṇaka, pool of Jāti, Devakūpa, and the slope of Kuśa grass are sanctuaries for vows and rituals. The vow of all the gods, the pool at Kanyāśrama, and another place of the Vālakhilyas, both former and later, are remembered for their ascetic power. Another undivided pool of the great sages stands among these holy places. In all these sacred sites, when approached with proper rules and full faith, the pilgrim receives blessings and spiritual merit, as taught in the sacred tradition.
