पुरतः स्थापयेत्कुम्भान्सहिण्यान्नसंयुतान्
Place the pots filled with curd-rice in front.
आकृष्णेनेति मंत्रेण समिद्भिश्चार्कसंभवैः
With the mantra 'ākṛṣṇena', and with kindling sticks derived from the arka tree.
ततस्तु दक्षिणा देया ब्राह्मणानां युधिष्ठिर 4.47.
Then, O Yudhishthira, a gift should be given as dakshina to the Brahmins.
द्वादशात्र प्रशंसंति गावो वस्त्रान्विताः शुभाः एवं विसृज्य तान्विप्रान्स्वयं भुञ्जीत वाग्यतः
For twelve days, cows adorned with garments are praised; having thus honored those Brahmins, one should eat oneself, observing restraint in speech.
य एवं कुरुते पार्थ सप्तमीव्रतमुत्तमम्
Whoever, O Partha, performs this excellent Saptami vow in this manner—
सप्तम्यां सोपवासस्तु भानोः पश्यंति ये मुखम्
Those who, on the Saptami, fast and behold the face of the Sun—
व्रतमेतन्महाराज सर्वाशुभविनाशनम् सूर्यलोकप्रदं चांते प्राहैवं नारदो मुनिः
This vow, O great king, destroys all inauspiciousness and, in the end, grants the world of the Sun; thus spoke the sage Narada.
ये सप्तमीमुपवसंति सितासितां च नामाक्षरैरहिमदीधितिमर्चयंति
Those who fast on the Saptami, worship the white and black (forms) with the syllables of their names, and honor the sun with rays like snow—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे उभयसप्तमीव्रतवर्णनं नाम सप्तचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue of Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the forty-seventh chapter named 'Description of the Ubhaya Saptami Vow' is concluded.
कल्याणसप्तमीव्रतवर्णनम् भगवन्दुर्गसंसारसागरोत्तारकारकम्
Description of the Kalyana Saptami vow—O Lord, it is the deliverer from the difficult ocean of worldly existence.
तदा सा तु महापुण्या विजया तु निगद्यते
At that time, it is said to be the highly meritorious and victorious (vow).
प्रातर्गव्येन पयसा स्नानमस्यां समाचरेत्
In the morning, one should bathe on this day with cow's milk.
प्राङ्मुखोष्टदलं मध्ये तद्विचित्रां च कर्णिकाम्
Facing east, with the middle of the lips, and that wondrous pericarp (should be contemplated).
पूर्वेण तपनायेति मार्तण्डायेति वै नमः
To the east, 'Obeisance to Tapanaya,' and 'Obeisance to Martanda' indeed.
पश्चिमे वरुणायेति भास्करायेति वानिले
To the west, 'Obeisance to Varuna,' 'Obeisance to Bhaskara,' and to Vayu.
आदावंते च तन्मध्ये नमोऽस्तु परमात्मने
At the beginning, at the end, and in the middle—obeisance to the Supreme Self.
शुक्लवस्त्रफलैर्भक्ष्यैर्धूपमाल्यानुलेपनैः
With white garments, fruits, food offerings, incense, garlands, and unguents—
ततो व्याहृतिहोमेन विभज्य द्विजपुङ्गवान्
Then, having divided (the offerings), perform the vyahriti homa for the best of the twice-born.
तिलपात्रं हिरण्यं च गुरवे च निवेदयेत् 4.48.
One should offer sesame leaves and gold to the teacher.
कृतस्नानजपो विप्रैः सहैव घृतपायसम्
Having bathed and recited prayers, together with the Brahmins, one should offer rice pudding made with ghee.
एवं संवत्सरस्यांते कृत्वैतदखिलं नृप
In this way, O king, having performed all this at the end of the year—
घृतपात्रं सकरकं सोदकुम्भं निवेद येत्
One should offer a vessel of ghee, along with a ladle and a water pot.
एकामपि प्रदद्याद्गां वित्तहीनो विमत्सरः
Even a poor man, free from envy, should give at least one cow.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु कुर्यात्कल्याणसप्तमीम्
Whoever performs the Kalyāṇa Saptamī with this procedure—
यश्चाष्टपत्रकमलोदरकर्णिकायां संपूजयेत्कुसुमधूपविलेपनायैः
And whoever worships the eight-petaled lotus with its central pericarp, with flowers, incense, and ointments—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे कल्याणसप्तमीव्रतवर्णनं नामाष्टचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Śrī Krishna and Yudhishthira, ends the forty-eighth chapter named 'Description of the Kalyāṇa Saptamī Vow.'
शर्करासप्तमीव्रतवर्णनम् आयुरारोग्यमैश्वर्यं ययानंतं प्रजायते
The description of the Śarkarā Saptamī vow: By which, endless life, health, and prosperity are obtained.
माधवस्य सिते पक्षे सप्तम्यां श्रद्धयान्वितः
On the seventh day of the bright fortnight of Mādhava, with faith—
स्थंडिले पद्ममालिख्य कुंकुमेन सकर्णिकम्
One should draw a lotus with a central pericarp on the ground, using saffron.
स्थापयेदुदकुंभं च शर्करापात्रसंयुतम्
One should place a water pot together with a vessel of sugar.
