परितो मुद्रिका रौप्या सौवर्णीं च युधिष्ठिर
All around, O Yudhiṣṭhira, a silver or golden ring should be given.
सोहालकानि कांसारं दद्याद्भुञ्जीत च स्वयम्
One should give sohālakāni and a bronze vessel, and partake of food oneself.
सम्पूज्य सखि दुष्प्राप्यं त्रैलोक्येऽपि न विद्यते
Having worshipped, O friend, that which is difficult to obtain—even in the three worlds—does not exist.
स मया पालितो भक्त्या ततोऽहं सुस्थिता सखि
That (vow) was observed by me with devotion; therefore, O friend, I am well established.
तेन सन्ततिविच्छिन्ना राज्येपि सति दुःखिता
Because of that, though the lineage was interrupted, even while the kingdom remained, I was afflicted.
अर्द्धं तव प्रदास्यामि तस्य धर्मस्य सुव्रते
O virtuous one, I will give you half of the merit of that observance.
इत्युक्त्वा प्रतिजग्राह व्रतदानफलं ततः
Having thus spoken, she then accepted the fruit of the vow and its gift.
व्रतस्यास्य प्रभावेण सपुत्रा त्वं च देवकि
By the power of this vow, O Devakī, you too, with sons, will prosper.
इत्येवं कथयित्वास्यै लोमशो मुनिपुंगवः 4.46.
Having thus spoken to her, the eminent sage Lomaśa (concluded).
ये चरिष्यंति मनुजा व्रतमेतद्युधिष्ठिर
O Yudhiṣṭhira, those men who will observe this vow,
तेषां सन्ततिविच्छेदो न कदाचिद्भविष्यति मर्त्यलोके सुखं स्थित्वा यास्यंति शिवमंदिरम्
For them, there will never be interruption of lineage; dwelling happily in the mortal world, they will go to the abode of Śiva.
यः कुक्कुटीव्रतवरं प्लवगीसमेतं चक्रे चराचरगुरुं हृदये निधाय
He who has performed this excellent vow of the hen, having placed the lord of monkeys, the teacher of all beings, in his heart,
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे कुक्कुटीमर्कटीव्रतवर्णनं नाम षट्चत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the forty-sixth chapter named 'The Description of the Kukkutī and Markaṭī Vows' concludes.
उभयसप्तमीव्रतवर्णनम् माघमासात्समारभ्य शुक्लपक्षे युधिष्ठिर
The Description of the Ubhaya Saptami Vow. Beginning from the month of Māgha, during the bright fortnight, O Yudhishthira—
सप्तम्यां कुरु संकल्पमहोरात्रे व्रते नृप
On the seventh day, O king, undertake the resolve for the vow, observing it day and night.
अष्टम्यां भोजयेद्विप्रांस्तिलपिष्टं गुडौदनम्
On the eighth day, feed the Brahmins with rice cooked with sesame flour and jaggery.
सप्तम्यां फाल्गुने मासि सूर्यमित्यभिपूजयेत्
On the seventh day in the month of Phālguna, one should worship the Sun with devotion.
सप्तम्यां चैत्रमासे तु वेदांशुमभिपूजयेत्
On the seventh day in the month of Chaitra, one should worship the Vedas and the radiant Sun.
वैशाखस्य तु सप्तम्यां धातारमभिपूजयेत्
On the seventh day of Vaiśākha, one should worship Dhātā.
सप्तम्यां ज्येष्ठमासस्य इन्द्र इत्यभिपूजयेत्
On the seventh day of the month of Jyeṣṭha, one should worship Indra.
आषाढमासे सप्तम्यां पूजयित्वा दिवाकरम्
On the seventh day of Āṣāḍha, having worshipped the Sun, the performer should proceed.
सप्तम्यां श्रावणे मासि मातापि नाम पूजयेत्
On the seventh day of the month of Śrāvaṇa, one should worship the deity named Mātāpi.
रविं प्रौष्ठपदे मासे सप्तम्यामर्चयेच्छुचिः ।।। 4.47.
With purity, one should worship Ravi (the Sun) on the seventh day of the month of Bhadrapada.
आश्वयुक्छुक्लसप्तम्यां सवितारं प्रपूज्य च
On the bright seventh day of Āśvayuja, having worshipped Savitṛ, the Sun, one should proceed.
कार्तिके शुक्लसप्तम्यां दिनेशं सप्तवाह नम्
On the bright seventh day of Kārtika, one should worship Dinesha, the Lord of the Day, who is drawn by seven horses.
भानुं मार्गसिते पक्षे पूजयित्वा विधानतः
Having worshipped Bhānu (the Sun) according to the prescribed method during the dark fortnight of Mārgaśīrṣa—
भास्करं पौषमासे तु पूजयित्वा यथाविधि
Having worshipped Bhāskara (the Sun) in the month of Pauṣa according to the proper procedure—
तदेव कृष्णसप्तम्यां नाम संपूजयेद्बुधः पश्चात्समाप्ते नियमे सूर्ययागं समाचरेत्
Likewise, on the seventh day of the dark fortnight, the wise should perform the same worship; after completing the observance, one should perform the Sun sacrifice.
शुचिर्भूमौ समे देशे लेपयेद्रक्तच न्दनैः
With purity, in a clean and level place on the ground, one should apply red sandalwood.
सिंदूरगैरिकाभ्यां च सूर्यमण्डलमालिखेत् सम्पूज्य दद्यान्नैवेद्यं विचित्रं घृतपाचितम्
With vermilion and ochre, one should draw the solar disc; after worshipping, one should offer a variety of food prepared with ghee as oblation.
