अक्षोटैर्बदरैर्बिल्वैः करमर्दैः सबर्बरैः
With walnuts, jujubes, bael fruits, karamarda, and barbaras,
पुष्पैर्धूपैः फलैः पत्रैर्मोदकैर्गुणकैः शुभैः
With flowers, incense, fruits, leaves, sweet cakes, and auspicious delicacies,
अन्यैः फलैश्च काम्यैश्च ऐक्षवैर्ग्रंथिवर्जितैः 4.43.
And with other desired fruits, as well as sugarcane, unbound by string,
न विशेन्न च संजल्पेन्न च कश्चिद्वदेदपि
One should not eat, nor converse, nor should anyone speak at all.
वसोर्धाराप्रदातव्या भानोर्गव्येन सर्पिषा
A stream of clarified butter mixed with cow's milk should be offered to the Sun.
कुंकुमेन समालभ्य पुष्पधूपैश्च पूजयेत्
Having anointed with saffron, one should worship with flowers and incense.
भानो भ्रास्करमार्तण्ड चण्डरश्मे दिवाकर
O Bhanu, Bhaskara, Martanda, Chandra-rashmi, Divakara,
उपवासेन नक्तेन तथैवायाचितेन च
By fasting, by eating only at night, or by accepting alms,
रोगी विमुच्यते रोगाद्दरिद्रः श्रियमाप्नुयात्
The sick are freed from disease, and the poor attain prosperity.
शुक्लपक्षे यदा पार्थ सादित्यसप्तमी भवेत्
O Partha, when in the bright fortnight the Saptami of the Sun occurs,
भूमौ पलाशपत्रेषु स्नात्वा हुत्वा यथाविधि
Having bathed and performed the prescribed oblation on the ground or on palāśa leaves,
मुद्गं श्रेष्ठाय विप्राय वाचकाय विशेषतः
one should especially give mung beans to an excellent Brāhmaṇa who is learned.
उपोष्य विधिनानेन मन्त्रप्राशनपूजनेः 4.43.
Having fasted according to this rule, with the recitation of mantras and worship,
अर्चनं वह्निकार्यं च शतमष्टोत्तरं नरः
a person should perform one hundred and eight acts of worship and offerings to the fire.
सौवर्णं भास्करं पार्थ रुक्मपात्रगतं शुभम्
O son of Pṛthā, a golden image of the Sun, auspicious and placed in a golden vessel,
मन्त्रेणानेन विप्राय कर्मसिद्ध्यै द्विजातये
should be given to a Brāhmaṇa with this mantra, for the accomplishment of the rite, to a twice-born.
ममाद्य समीहितार्थप्रदो भव नमोनमः
"Today, may you grant the desired object I seek; I bow to you, again and again."
श्राद्धानि पितृदेवानां शाश्वतीं तृप्तिमिच्छता
One who desires the eternal satisfaction of the ancestors and the gods through śrāddha rites,
विजयो जायतेऽवश्यं यतीनां च नृणां तदा
will certainly attain victory, both among ascetics and men, at that time.
एवमेषा तिथिः पार्थ इह कामप्रदा नृणाम्
Thus, O son of Pṛthā, this lunar day here grants the fulfillment of desires for people.
दाता भोगी च चतुरो दीर्घायुर्नीरुजः सुखी
The giver and the enjoyer, all four, become long-lived, free from disease, and happy.
नारी वा कुरुते या तु सापि तत्पुण्यभागिनी
And if a woman performs it, she too partakes of that merit.
स्वर्ग्या समीहितसुखार्थफलप्रदा च या मृग्यते मुनिवरैः प्रवरा तिथीनाम् 4.43.
It bestows heaven, the fruits of desired happiness, and is sought by the best of sages as the foremost of lunar days.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे विजयसप्तमीव्रतकथनं नाम त्रिचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the forty-third chapter named 'The Account of the Vijaya Saptamī Vow' in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, in the Uttaraparvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
आदित्यमण्डलविधिवर्णनम् आदित्यमंडलं नाम सर्वाशुभविनाशनम्
Description of the Sun's Mandala: The sun's mandala is said to destroy all inauspiciousness.
यवचूर्णेन शुभ्रेण कुर्याद्गोधूमजेन वा
One should make it with pure barley flour or with wheat flour.
संपूज्य भास्करं भक्त्या तदग्रे मंडलं शुभम्
Having worshipped the Sun with devotion, one should make the auspicious mandala before him.
मण्डलं तत्र संस्थाप्य रक्तवस्त्रैः सुपूजितम्
Having established that mandala there, well-honored with red cloths,
आदित्यतेजसोत्पन्नं राजतं विधिनिर्मितम्
Born from the radiance of the sun, silver is fashioned by the ordinance of fate.
(इति दानमंत्रः) कामदं धनदं धर्म्यं पुत्रदं सुखदं तव
(Thus is the mantra for giving:) May this grant desires, wealth, righteousness, sons, and happiness to you.
