एकैकस्य त्वष्टशतमष्टाविंशतिरेव वा
Of each, either eight hundred or twenty-eight should be offered.
गंगाद्वारे कुशावर्ते बिल्वके नीलपर्वते
At the gateway of the Ganga, at Kushavarta, at Bilvaka, or at Nilaparvata,
ललिते ललिते देवि सौख्यसौभाग्यदायिनि एवमभ्यर्च्य विधिना नैवेद्यं पुरतो न्यसेत्
O Lalita, O Lalita, O goddess, bestower of happiness and good fortune, thus worshipping according to the rite, one should place the offering before her.
कूष्मांडैः कर्कटीवृंतैः कर्कोटैः कारवेल्लकैः
With gourds, bitter melons, bottle gourds, and spiny gourds,
सार्द्धं सगुडकैर्धूपैः सोहालककरंबकैः 4.41.
Along with jaggery, incense, and also with ohālaka and karambaka fruits,
एवमभ्यर्च्य विधिवद्रात्रौ जागरणं ततः सखीभिः सहिता साध्वी तां रात्रीं प्रशमन्नयेत्
Thus, having worshipped properly, at night one should keep vigil; together with her friends, the virtuous woman should pass the night in peace.
न च सम्मीलयेन्नेत्रे नारी यामचतुष्टयम्
A woman should not close her eyes during the four night-watches.
एवं जागरणं कृत्वा सप्तम्यां सरितं नयेत्
Having thus remained awake, on the seventh day she should go to the river.
तच्च दद्याद्द्विजेंद्राय नैवद्यादि नरोत्तम देवान्पितॄन्मनुष्यांश्च पूजयित्वा सुवासिनीम्
That offering should be given to a foremost Brahmin, along with food and other items, O best of men, after worshipping the gods, ancestors, humans, and a married woman.
कुमारिका भोजनीया ब्राह्मणा दशपंच च ललिता प्रीतियुक्ताऽस्तु इत्युक्त्वा तान्विसर्जयेत्
A maiden and fifteen Brahmins should be fed; having said, 'Let it be with delight and affection,' she should dismiss them.
यः कश्चिदाचरेदेतद्भक्त्या ललितिकाव्रतम्
Whoever observes this vow of Lalitā with devotion,
तन्नास्ति मानुषे लोके तस्य यन्नोपपद्यते
There is nothing in the world of men that does not come to him.
षष्ठ्यां जलांतरगता वरवंशपात्रे संगृह्य पूजयति या सिकताः क्रमेण
On the sixth day, having collected the sands from the river in a vessel of a noble lineage, she should worship them in order.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे ललिताषष्ठीव्रतवर्णनं नामैकचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, the forty-first chapter named 'Description of the Lalitā Ṣaṣṭhī Vow' is concluded.
कार्तिकेयपूजावर्णनम् पुण्या पापहरा धन्या शिवा शान्ता गृहप्रिया
Description of the worship of Kārtikeya: She is virtuous, remover of sin, blessed, auspicious, peaceful, and beloved of the household.
निहत्य तारकं षष्ठ्यां गुहस्तारकराजवत् स्नानदानादिकं कर्म तस्यामक्षयमुच्यते
Having slain Tāraka on the sixth day, Guha, like the king Tāraka, the acts of bathing, giving, and so on performed for him are said to be imperishable.
यस्यां पश्यंति गांगेयं दक्षिणापथमाश्रितम्
On that day, they behold the Gāṅgeya (Kārtikeya) who has taken refuge in the southern region.
तस्मादस्यां सोपवासः कुमारं स्वर्णसंभवम्
Therefore, on this day, with fasting, one should worship Kumāra, born of gold.
अपराह्णे ततः स्नात्वा समाचम्य यतव्रती
Then, in the afternoon, having bathed and performed purification, the vow-observer—
ब्राह्मणस्तु ततो विद्वान्गृहीत्वा करकं नवम्
Then the learned Brāhmaṇa, taking a new vessel—
चन्द्रमण्डलभूतानां भवभूतिपवित्रिता
Of those who are like the orb of the moon, purified by the essence of existence—
एवं स्नात्वा समभ्यर्च्य भास्करं भुवनाधिप
Having thus bathed, and having worshipped Bhāskara, the lord of the worlds—
देव सेनापते स्कन्द कार्त्तिकेय भवोद्भव
O commander of the gods, Skanda, Kārttikeya, born of Bhava—
एभिर्न्नामपदैः पूज्य नैवेद्यं विनिवेदयेत् ।।4.42.१
With these names and words, one should worship and offer the consecrated food.
पार्श्वस्थौ पूजयेच्छागकुक्कुटौ स्वामिवल्लभौ
He should worship at the sides a goat and a rooster, both dear to the Lord.
कृत्तिकाकटकं पार्श्वे संपूज्य स्कन्दवल्लभम्
He should also worship at the side the Krittika constellation and the sign of Cancer, beloved of Skanda.
एवं निर्वर्त्य विधिवत्फलमेवं युधिष्ठिर
Thus, having performed the rite properly in this way, O Yudhishthira, the result is as follows.
नालिकेरं मातुलुंगं नारिंगं पनसं तथा
A coconut, citron, lime, and jackfruit likewise—
श्रीफलामलकं तद्वत्त्रपुसं कदलीफलम् अलाभे कलकालौघफलमद्यादतंद्रितः
A wood-apple, amalaki, and similarly jujube and plantain fruit; if unavailable, he should promptly offer whatever seasonal fruit there is.
प्रत्यक्षो हेमघटितश्छागो वा कुक्कुटोऽथवा
A goat or rooster, either real or fashioned from gold, should be presented.
