यंयं प्रार्थयते कामं तंतं प्राप्नोति पुष्कलम् १५. सोपींद्रलोकमाप्नोति न दुःखी जायते क्वचित्
Whatever desire one prays for, that very wish is abundantly fulfilled; he attains the world of Indra and is never born into suffering anywhere.
ये भास्करं दिनकरं करवीरपुष्पैः संपूजयंत्यभिनमंति कृतोपवासा
Those who worship Bhaskara, the Sun, with oleander flowers, bowing and having observed a fast,
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे विशोकषष्ठीव्रतं नामा ष्टत्रिंशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, this is the thirty-eighth chapter named 'The Unsorrowed Shashthi Vow.'
कमलषष्ठीव्रतवर्णनम् यामुपोष्य नरः पापविमुक्तः स्वर्गभाग्भवेत्
Description of the Kamala Shashthi Vow: He who observes it becomes free from sin and attains heaven.
मार्गशीर्षे शुभे मासि पञ्चम्यां नियतव्रतः
In the auspicious month of Margashirsha, on the fifth day, with firm observance of the vow,
शर्करासंयुतं दद्याद्ब्राह्मणाय कुटुंबिने
One should give to a Brahmin householder something mixed with sugar.
दद्यात्प्रातः कृतस्नानो भानुर्मे प्रीयतामिति
Having bathed in the morning, one should give, saying, 'May the Sun be pleased with me.'
कृत्वा कुर्यात्फलत्यागं या च स्यात्कृष्णसप्तमी
Having done so, one should offer the fruit, and also on Krishna Saptami.
तद्वै हैमं फलं दत्त्वा सुवर्ण कमलान्वितम्
By giving that golden fruit, adorned with a golden lotus,
षष्ठ्योरुभयोर्महाराज यावत्संवत्सरं ततः
On both sixth days, O King, for as long as a year,
भानुरर्को रविर्ब्रह्मा सूर्यः शुक्रो हरिः शिवः
Bhānu, Arka, Ravi, Brahmā, Sūrya, Śukra, Hari, and Śiva—
प्रतिमासं च सप्तम्यामेकैकं नाम कीर्तयेत्
Each month, on the seventh day, one should recite each of these names.
व्रतांते विप्रमिथुनं पूजयेद्वस्त्रभूषणैः 4.39.
At the conclusion of the vow, one should honor a pair of brāhmaṇas with garments and ornaments.
यथा फलकरो मासस्त्वद्भक्तानां सदा रवे
Just as the month always grants fruits to your devotees, O Ravi—
इमामनंतफलदां फलषष्ठीं करोति यः
Whoever performs this Phalaṣaṣṭhī, which bestows endless rewards—
सुरापानादिकं किञ्चिद्यदत्रामुत्र वा कृतम्
Whatever minor transgressions, such as drinking liquor, have been committed here or elsewhere—
भूतान्भव्यांश्च पुरुषांस्तारयेदेकविंशतिम्
He will deliver twenty-one beings, both past and future.
हैमं फलं सकमलं कलशं सिताया षष्ठीमुपोष्य विधिवद्द्विजपुंगवाय
Having properly observed the Ṣaṣṭhī fast of Sitā, one should offer a golden, lotus-adorned pot to a foremost brāhmaṇa.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे कमलषष्ठीव्रतं नामैकोनचत्वारिंशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, this is the forty-first chapter, named 'The Kamala Ṣaṣṭhī Vow.'
मंदारषष्ठीव्रतवर्णनम् सर्वकामप्रदां पुण्यां षष्ठीं मन्दारसंज्ञिताम्
The description of the Maṃdāra Ṣaṣṭhī vow: The Ṣaṣṭhī called Maṃdāra, which grants all desires and is meritorious—
माघस्यामलपक्षे तु पञ्चम्यां लघुभुङ्नरः विप्रान्संपूज्य विधिवन्मंदारं प्राशयेन्निशि
On the fifth day of the bright fortnight of Māgha, a man should eat lightly, and at night, after duly honoring the brāhmaṇas, he should partake of maṃdāra.
ततः प्रभाते चोत्थाय कृतस्नानः पुनर्द्विजान्
Then, rising at dawn and having bathed, he should again honor the brāhmaṇas.
सौवर्णं पुरुषं तद्वत्पद्महस्तं सुशोभनम्
He should worship a golden figure, likewise holding a lotus in its hand, beautiful in form.
पूज्य मंदारकुसुमैर्भास्करायेति पूर्वतः
He should worship Bhāskara in the east with maṃdāra flowers.
दक्षिणे तद्वदर्काय तथार्यम्णे च नैर्ऋते
In the south, in the same way, he should worship Arka, and in the southwest, Aryaman.
पूष्णे ह्युत्तरतः पूज्य आनंदायेत्यतः परम्
In the north, he should worship Pūṣan, and then Ānanda.
शुक्लवस्त्रैः समावेष्ट्य भक्ष्यैर्माल्यफलादिभिः भुंजीतातैललवणं वाग्यतः प्राङ्मुखो गृही
Wrapping himself in white garments, with offerings of food, garlands, fruits, and the like, the householder should eat food without oil or salt, observing silence, facing east.
अनेन विधिना सर्वं सप्तम्यां मासिमासि च
In this manner, on each seventh day of the month, everything should be performed.
एतदेव व्रतांते तु निधाय कलशोपरि 4.40.
At the conclusion of the vow, this is to be placed upon the pot.
नमो मंदारनाथाय मंदारभवनाय च
Salutations to the Lord of Mandara, and to the Dweller in Mandara.
