कृष्णागरुमयं चैव श्रीखण्डघटितं पुनः
And again, with a vessel made of black aloe wood or fashioned from sandalwood.
अन्यैरालोहितैः पार्थ पुष्पैर्वस्त्रैः फलैः शुभैः
With other red flowers, O Partha, and auspicious cloths and fruits.
यावद्धि शक्यते चित्तं वित्तवान्भक्तिभावितः
As much as the mind is able, one who possesses wealth and is filled with devotion.
किञ्चित्ताम्रमये पात्रे वंशजे मृन्मयेपि वा
In a vessel made of copper, bamboo, or even clay.
( ॐ अंगारकाय नमः शिरसि ॐ भौमाय नमः स्कंधयोः ॐ रक्ताय नमः उरसि ॐ आराय नमः जंघयोः एषाष्टपुष्पिका गुग्गुलं घृतसंयुक्तं कृष्णागरुसमन्वितम्
Om, homage to Angaraka on the head; Om, homage to Bhauma on the shoulders; Om, homage to Rakta on the chest; Om, homage to Ara on the legs; this is the eight-flowered offering: guggul mixed with ghee and accompanied by black aloe.
होमं कुर्वीत पूर्वोक्तैर्मंत्रैर्मंगलसं ज्ञितैः
One should perform the fire offering with the previously mentioned mantras, known for auspiciousness.
निष्पावकं भोजनं वा दद्याच्छक्त्या सदक्षिणम्
Or, according to one's ability, one should give food without pulses, along with the proper offering.
पश्चाद्भुञ्जीत मौनेन भूमिं कृत्वा तु भाजनम्
Afterwards, one should eat in silence, using the earth as the plate.
सर्वौषधिरसावासे सर्वदा सर्व दायिनि
In the abode of all medicinal herbs, always, everything is to be given.
युधिष्ठिर उवाच उपोष्या कतिमात्रा सा किमेका वद यादव ।। 4.31.
Yudhishthira said: What is the measure of fasting, is it only one? Tell me, O Yadava.
चतुर्थी च चतुर्थी च यदांगारकसंयुता वित्तहीनाः प्रतीक्षंते यावद्वित्तोपलंभनम्
On the fourth day, when it is joined with Angaraka, those without wealth wait until wealth is obtained.
चतुर्थ्यां च चतुर्थ्यां च विधानं शृणु पाण्डव दश सौवर्णिकं मुख्यं दशार्द्धार्द्धमथापि वा
On the fourth day, on the fourth day, hear the procedure, O Pandava: ten golden coins are principal, or even half of ten.
विंशत्पलानि पात्राणि विंशत्यर्द्धपलानि च
Twenty weight units for the vessels, and twenty half-units as well.
प्रतिष्ठाप्य कुजं मंत्रैर्वस्त्रैः संपरिवेष्टितम्
Establishing Kuja with mantras, wrapped in cloth.
तत्र संपूजयेद्देवं पूर्वमंत्रैर्विधानतः
There, one should worship the deity first, according to the prescribed mantras.
वस्त्रैः प्रावरणैर्यानैः शय्योपानद्वरासनैः
With cloths, coverings, vehicles, beds, shoes, and seats.
ततो विप्र परीक्षेत व्रतशौचसमन्वितम्
Then, O Brahmin, he should examine one endowed with observance of vows and purity.
अंगारकविधिं यश्च सम्यग्जानाति शास्त्रतः
And one who knows well, according to the scriptures, the procedure relating to Mars.
संपूज्य वस्त्राभरणैस्तस्मै देयः कुजोत्तमः
Having duly honored him with garments and ornaments, the best of Kuja should be given to him.
वित्तसारेण तुष्य त्वं मम भौम भवोद्भव ब्राह्मणश्चाप्यसौ विद्वान्मंत्रमेतमुदाहरेत् ।। 4.31.
With wealth as an offering, be pleased, O Bhauma, born of me; and let that learned Brahmin recite this mantra.
मंगलं प्रति गृह्णामि उभयोरस्तु मंगलम्
I accept the auspiciousness; may there be well-being for both.
प्रतिग्राहकमंत्रः तदा मंत्रार्चनपरः पुनरेतां समाचरेत्
This is the mantra for the recipient; then, being devoted to the recitation of mantras, he should again perform this.
आशरीरनिपाताद्वा यथोक्तफलभाग्भवेत्
Even if the body falls away, one attains the results as stated.
अंगारकेण संयुक्तां वास्रां(वस्त्रां) तिलशराविकाम्
A garment joined with Angaraka and a vessel of sesame grains.
एवं चतुर्थीं यो भक्त्या कुजयुक्ता मुपोषयेत्
Thus, whoever with devotion observes the fourth day associated with Kuja.
इह स्थित्वा चिरं कालं पुत्रपौत्रश्रिया वृतः
Remaining here for a long time, surrounded by sons, grandsons, and prosperity.
दिव्यनारीगणवृतो विमानवरमास्थितः
Surrounded by groups of celestial women, he ascends the best of aerial chariots.
स तत्र रमते कालं देवैः सह सुरेशवत्
There he enjoys for a time, together with the gods, like the lord of the gods.
इह चागत्य राजासौ कुले महति जायते
And returning here, that king is born in a great lineage.
नारी च रूपसंपन्ना सुभगा जातिसंयुता 4.31.
And a woman, endowed with beauty, good fortune, and noble birth.
