एषा विशेषविहिताभिहिता तृतीया यानंतरीत्य विधवाभिरुदीरितोच्चैः
This is the special, prescribed third Ānantarī, proclaimed aloud by widows.
अक्षयतृतीयाव्रतवर्णनम् वैशाखस्य सितामेकां तृतीयां शृणु पाण्डव
Description of the Akṣayatṛtīyā vow: Hear, O Pāṇḍava, of the bright third day of Vaiśākha.
स्नानं दानं जपो होमः स्वाध्यायः पितृतर्पणम्
Bathing, giving, recitation, oblation, self-study, and offerings to ancestors—
आदौ कृतयुगस्येयं युगादिस्तेन कथ्यते
This is said to be at the beginning of the Kṛta Yuga, at the start of the ages.
शाकले नगरे कश्चिद्धर्मनामाभवद्वणिक्
In the city of Śākala, there was once a merchant named Dharma.
तेन श्रुतं वाच्यमानं तृतीया रोहिणी पुरा
He heard about the third day under the Rohiṇī star, as will be told.
तस्यां यद्दीयते किंञ्चित्तत्सर्वं चाक्षयं भवेत्
Whatever is given on that day, all of it becomes imperishable.
गृहमागत्य करकान्सान्नानुदकसंयुतान्
Coming home, he prepared bowls filled with food and water.
यवगोधूमचणकसक्तुदध्यौदनं तथा
Barley, wheat, chickpeas, flour, curd, and rice as well.
शुचिः शुद्धेन मनसा ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ वणिक्
The merchant, pure and with a pure mind, gave these to the Brāhmaṇas.
तावत्स च स्थितः सत्त्वे मत्वा सर्वं विनश्वरम् 4.30.
He remained steadfast in virtue, considering all things as perishable.
जगाम पञ्चत्वमसौ वासुदेवं स्मरन्मुहुः
He departed from life, repeatedly remembering Vāsudeva.
बभूव चा क्षया तस्य समृद्धिर्धर्मनिर्जिता
And for him, prosperity, conquered by righteousness, became subject to decline.
ददौ गोभूहिरण्यादि दानान्यस्यामहर्निशम्
He gave gifts of cows, land, gold, and the like, day and night.
तथाप्यक्षयमेवास्य क्षयं याति न तद्धनम्
Yet, even so, his wealth never diminished; it did not come to an end.
एतद्व्रतं मयाख्यातं श्रूयतामत्र यो विधिः

ग्रैष्मिकं सर्वमेवात्र सस्यदानं प्रशस्यते
In this, the giving of all summer produce is especially praised.
यद्यदिष्टतमं चान्यत्तद्देयमविशंकया
Whatever else is most desired should also be given, without hesitation.
अनाख्येयं न मे किञ्चिदस्ति स्वस्त्यस्तु तेऽनघ
There is nothing unspoken by me; may good fortune be yours, O sinless one.
अस्यां तिथौ क्षयमुपैति हुतं न दत्तं तेनाक्षया च मुनिभिः कथिता तृतीया
On this date, offerings made in fire perish, but not gifts; therefore, the third day is called imperishable by the sages.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादेऽक्षय्यतृती याव्रतवर्णनं नाम त्रिंशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the thirtieth chapter named 'The Description of the Akshaya Tritiya Vow' is concluded.
अङ्गारकचतुर्थीव्रतवर्णनम् पापापहं बहुफलं सुकरं सूपवासकम्
For the purpose of bathing, one should take clay with mantras while standing in water.
ऋद्धिबुद्धिकरं स्वर्ग्यं यशस्यं सर्वकामदम्
It brings prosperity and wisdom, leads to heaven, brings fame, and fulfills all desires.
शृणु पार्थ परं गुह्यं यन्मया कथितं न च
Hear, O Partha, the supreme secret which I have not told before.
शिवयोरतिसंहर्षाद्रक्तबिंदुश्च्युतः क्षितौ
From the great joy of Shiva and Parvati, a drop of blood fell to the earth.
तस्माज्जातः कुमारोऽसौ रक्तो रक्तसमुद्भवः
From that, a boy was born, red in color, arisen from the red.
शिवांगाद्रभसा जात स्तेनांगारक उच्यते
Born swiftly from Shiva's body, he is called Angaraka.
सौभाग्यारोग्यकृद्यस्मात्तस्मादंगारकः स्मृतः
Because he brings good fortune and health, he is known as Angaraka.
तं पूजयति यत्नेन नारी वाऽनन्यमानसा रूपं सौभाग्यसंपन्नं नरनारीमनोहरम्
A woman who worships him with devotion and undistracted mind attains beauty, prosperity, and charm pleasing to both men and women.
युधिष्ठिर उवाच सहोममंत्रसंस्थानं साधिवासविधानतः
Yudhishthira said: What is the arrangement of the homa, the mantras, and the proper procedure for consecration?
