पूर्वेण विन्यसेद्गौरीमपर्णां च ततः परम्
To the east, one should place Gaurī, and then Aparṇā beyond that.
विन्यसेत्पश्चिमे सौम्यां ततो मदनवासिनीम्
To the west, one should place Saumyā, and then Madanavāsinī.
लक्ष्मीं स्वाहां स्वधां तुष्टिं मंगलां कुमुदां सतीम् कुसुमैरक्षतैः शुभ्रैर्नमस्कारेण विन्यसेत्
Lakṣmī, Svāhā, Svadhā, Tuṣṭi, Maṅgalā, Kumudā, and Satī should be placed with white flowers and rice grains, with reverence.
गीतमंगलघोषं च कारयित्वा सुवासिनीः 4.26.
One should have auspicious songs and music performed by married women.
सिंदूरं स्नानचूर्णं च तासां शिरसि पातयेत्
Sprinkle vermilion and bathing powder on their heads.
नभस्ये पूजयेद्गौरीमुत्पलैरसितैस्तथा
In the month of Bhādrapada, worship Gaurī with blue lotuses as well.
कुन्दपुष्पैर्मार्गशिरे पौषे वै कुंकुमेन च
In the month of Mārgaśīrṣa, offer Kunda flowers, and in Pauṣa, use saffron.
जात्या तु फाल्गुने पूज्या पार्वती पांडुनंदन
In Phālguna, worship Pārvatī, O son of Pāṇḍu, with Jāti flowers.
ज्येष्ठे कमलमंदारैराषाढे चंपकांबुजैः
In Jyeṣṭha, use lotus and Mandāra flowers; in Āṣāḍha, offer Campaka and lotus flowers.
गोमूत्रं गोमयं क्षीरं दधि सर्पिः कुशो दकम् पंचगव्यं तथा बिल्वं प्राशयेत्क्रमशः सदा
Cow urine, cow dung, milk, curd, ghee, Kuśa grass, water, Pañcagavya, and Bilva should be given in order, always.
एतद्भाद्रपदाद्यं तु प्राशनं समुदाहृतम्
This is declared as the prescribed consumption beginning from Bhādrapada.
ब्राह्मणं ब्राह्मणीं चैव शिवं गौरीं प्रकल्प्य च पुंसे पीतांबरे दत्त्वा स्त्रियै कौसुंभवाससी
Having established a Brāhmaṇa and Brāhmaṇī as Śiva and Gaurī, give yellow garments to the man and Kusumbha-colored garments to the woman.
निष्पावाजाजिलवणमिक्षुदंडं गुणान्वितम्
Give Niṣpāva, barley, salt, sugarcane, and other items endowed with good qualities.
यथा न देवदेवेशस्त्वां परित्यज्य गच्छति 4.26.
So that the Lord of gods may never abandon you and depart.
कुमुदा विमलानंता भवानी वसुधा शिवा
Kumudā, Vimalā, Anantā, Bhavānī, Vasudhā, and Śivā—
नभस्यादिषु मासेषु प्रीयतामित्युदीरयेत्
In the months beginning with Nabhasya, one should utter, 'May she be pleased.'
मिथुनानि चतुर्विंशत्तदर्द्धं सकृदर्च्चयेत्
Offer twenty-four pairs, and half of that, once.
तथोपदेष्टारमपि पूजयेद्यत्नतो गुरुम्
Likewise, one should diligently worship the teacher who gives instruction.
उक्तानंततृतीयैषा सदानंतफलप्रदा
This third Anantā, as stated, always bestows endless fruits.
न चैनां वित्तशाठ्येन कदाचिदपि लंघयेत्
One should never neglect her out of miserliness regarding wealth.
गर्भिणी सूतिका नक्तं कुमारी चाथ रोगयुक्
A pregnant woman, one who has just given birth, at night, a maiden, or one afflicted by disease—
इमामनंतफलदां तृतीयां यः समाचरेत्
Whoever observes this Anantā Tṛtīyā, which grants endless fruits—
वित्तहीनोऽपि कुर्वीत वर्षत्रयमुपोषणैः
Even one without wealth should perform it, fasting for three years.
नारी वा कुरुते या तु कुमारी विधवा तथा 4.26.
Whether a woman, a maiden, or a widow performs it—
इति पठति शृणोति वा य इत्थं गिरितनयाव्रतमिंदुलोकसंस्थः
Whoever thus recites or hears the vow of the Daughter of the Mountain, established in the world of the Moon—
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच अन्यामपि प्रवक्ष्यामि तृतीयां पापनाशिनीम्
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: I shall declare another, a third vow, which destroys sin.
माघमासे तु संप्राप्य तृतीयां शुक्लपाक्षिकीम्
In the month of Māgha, upon the arrival of the third day of the bright fortnight—
स्नापयेन्मधुना देवीं तथैवेक्षुरसेन च
One should bathe the Goddess with honey and likewise with sugarcane juice.
दक्षिणांगानि संपूज्य ततो वामानि पूजयेत्
After worshipping her right limbs, then one should worship the left.
जंघे जानू तथा सत्यै तथोरश्च श्रियै नमः
To the shanks and knees, obeisance to Satyā; to the chest, obeisance to Śrī.
