क्षीरमाश्वयुजे तद्वत्कार्तिके पृष दाज्यकम् 4.25.
Milk is to be offered in the month of Āśvayuja, and similarly clarified butter in Kārtika.
माघे कृष्णतिलांस्तद्वत्पञ्चगव्यं च फाल्गुने
In Māgha, black sesame seeds are to be given; in Phālguna, the five products of the cow.
वासुदेवी तथा गौरी मङ्गला कमला सती
Vāsudevī, Gaurī, Maṅgalā, Kamalā, and Satī—
मल्लिकाशोककमलकदंबोत्पलमालति सिंदुवारं च मासेषु सर्वेषु क्रमशः स्मृतम्
Mallikā, Aśoka, Kamala, Kadamba, Utpala, Mālatī, and Sinduvāra are remembered in succession in all the months.
जपाकुसुंभकुसुमं मालती शतपत्रिका
The hibiscus flower, kusumbha flower, mālatī, and the hundred-petaled lotus—
एवं संवत्सरं यावदुपोष्य विधिवन्नरः व्रतांते शयनं दद्यात्सर्वोपस्करसंयुतम्
Thus, having observed the vow for a year according to the prescribed method, at the end of the vow, one should give a bed furnished with all accessories.
उमामहेश्वरं हैमं वृषभं च गवा सह
A golden image of Umā and Maheśvara, along with a bull and cows, should be given.
अन्यान्यपि यथाशक्ति मिधुनान्यंबरादिभिः वित्तशाठ्येन रहितः पूजयेद्गतविस्मयः
Other items, as one is able, such as clothing and ornaments, should also be offered, without miserliness and with a mind free from astonishment.
एवं करोति यः सम्यक्सौभाम्यशयनव्रतम्
Whoever properly performs the Saubhāgya-śayana vow in this manner—
सौभाग्यारोग्यरूपायुर्वस्त्रालंकारभूषणैः
He attains good fortune, health, beauty, long life, garments, and ornaments.
यस्तु द्वादश वर्षाणि सौभाग्यशयनं व्रतम् पूज्यमानो भवेत्सम्य ग्यावत्कल्पायुतत्रयम् ।। 4.25.
Whoever observes the Saubhāgya-śayana vow for twelve years becomes worthy of worship for three hundred thousand kalpas.
नारी वा कुरुते या तु कुमारी वा नरेश्वर
Whether a woman or a maiden, O king—
शृणुयादपि यश्चैतत्प्रदद्यादथ वा मतिम्
Or whoever hears this, or gives it, or even contemplates it—
इदमिह मदनेन पूर्वमिष्टं चरितमिदं शशबिंदुना व्रतं वै
This vow was formerly performed here by Madana and by Śaśabindu.
यानीह दत्तानि पुरा नरेंद्रैर्दानानि धर्मार्थयशस्कराणि
Whatever gifts were given here in ancient times by kings, bestowing righteousness, wealth, and fame—
रसकल्याणिनीव्रतवर्णनम् युधिष्ठिर उवाच भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं किञ्चिद्व्रतं ब्रूहि जनार्दन
Description of the Rasakalyāṇinī vow. Yudhiṣṭhira said: O Janārdana, tell me of a vow that grants both enjoyment and liberation.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच यदुमायै पुरा देव उवाचासुरसूदनः
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: What the god once spoke to Umā, O slayer of the demons—
तदिदानीं प्रवक्ष्यामि भुक्तिमुक्ति फलप्रदम्
That I shall now declare, which bestows the fruits of enjoyment and liberation.
शृणुष्वावहितो भूत्वा सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
Listen attentively, for this destroys all sins.
शुक्लपक्षतृतीयायां स्नातः सद्गौरसर्षपैः दधिचंदनसंमिश्रं ललाटे तिलकं न्यसेत्
On the third day of the bright fortnight, after bathing, one should apply to the forehead a tilaka made of good quality white mustard seeds mixed with curd and sandalwood.
सौभाग्यारोग्यकृद्यत्स्यात्सदा च ललिताप्रियम्
This always brings good fortune, health, and is dear to Lalitā.
धारयेदथ वा रक्तपीतानि कुसुमानि च
Alternatively, one may wear red and yellow flowers.
देव्यर्चां पंचगव्येन ततः क्षीरेण केवलम्
Then, worship the goddess with pañcagavya, and afterwards with pure milk alone.
पूजयेच्छुक्लपुष्पैश्च फलैर्नानाविधैरपि
One should worship with white flowers and with various kinds of fruits.
शुक्लाक्षतैस्तिलैरर्च्यां ललितां यः सदार्चयेत् 4.26.
Whoever always worships Lalitā with white rice grains and sesame seeds attains her grace.
ऊरू मांगल्यकारिण्यै कामदेव्यै तथा कटिम्
Offer the thighs to the auspicious Kāma-devī, and likewise the hips.
करौ सौभाग्यवासिन्यै बाहू शशिमुखश्रियै
Offer the hands to the abode of good fortune, and the arms to the moon-faced beauty.
गौर्य्यै नमस्तथा नासां सुनेत्रायै च लोचने
Homage to Gaurī for the nose, and to the beautiful-eyed one for the eyes.
नमो गौर्यै नमः सृष्ट्यै नमः कांत्यै नमः श्रियै
Homage to Gaurī, homage to the creatrix, homage to radiance, homage to prosperity.
एवं संपूज्य विधिवदग्रतः पद्म मालिखेत्
Having thus worshipped properly, one should place a lotus garland in front.
