एषा हिमाद्रिदुहितुर्दयिता तृतीया रंभाविधानमलभद्भुवि तत्कृतेति
This is the beloved third daughter of Himavat, who on earth obtained the form of Rambha—thus it is said.
सौभाग्याष्टकवर्णनम् सौभाग्यशयनं नाम यत्पुराणविदो विदुः
The description of the Eightfold Auspiciousness: That which the knowers of the Purana call the bed of fortune.
पुरा दग्धेषु लोकेषु भूर्भुवःस्वर्महादिषु
Formerly, when the worlds—Bhū, Bhuvaḥ, Svaḥ, and Mahā—were burned,
तच्च वैकुण्ठमासाद्य विष्णोर्वक्षस्थले स्थितम्
That (fortune) reached Vaikuntha and remained on the chest of Vishnu.
अहंकारावृते लोके प्रधानपुरुषान्विते
In the world enveloped by ego, filled with the chief beings and the Purusha,
पिंगाकारा समुद्भूता ज्वाला वक्षस्थली तदा
A tawny flame arose, then, from that chest.
यद्वक्षस्थलमाश्रित्य विष्णोः सौभाग्यमास्थितम्
That which, resting on the chest of Vishnu, assumed the form of fortune.
उत्क्षिप्तमन्तरिक्षस्थं ब्रह्मपुत्रेण धीमता
It was lifted up into the sky by the wise son of Brahma.
बलं तेजो महज्जातं दक्षस्य परमेष्ठिनः
Great strength and energy arose from Daksha, the supreme lord.
इक्षवस्तवराजं च निष्पावाजाजिधान्यकम् लवणं चाष्टमं तत्र सौभाग्याष्टकमुच्यते
Sugarcane, barley, mung beans, rice, and salt as the eighth—these are called the Eight Auspicious Substances.
पीतं यद्ब्रह्मपुत्रेण योगज्ञानविदा तथा लोकानतीत्य लालित्याल्ललिता तेन चोच्यते ।। 4.25.
That which was consumed by the son of Brahma, who was versed in yoga and knowledge, transcending the worlds, and because of its charm, she is called Lalita.
त्रैलोक्यसुंदरीमेनामुपयेमे पिनाकधृक्
The wielder of the bow Pinaka took her, the most beautiful in the three worlds, as his wife.
आराध्य तामुमां भक्त्या स्त्री राजन्किन्न विन्दति
O King, having worshipped her with devotion, what woman does not obtain me?
यद्विधानं च तत्सर्वं जगन्नाथ वदस्व मे
O Lord of the universe, tell me all the procedures for that.
शुक्लपक्षस्य पूर्वाह्ने तिलैः स्नानं समाचरेत्
In the morning of the bright fortnight, one should bathe with sesame seeds.
तस्मिन्नहनि सा देवी किल विश्वात्मना सती
On that very day, that goddess, indeed, together with the Soul of the Universe, was present.
तथा सहैव देवेशं तृतीयायामथार्चयेत्
In the same way, on the third day, one should worship the Lord of the gods along with her.
पञ्चगव्येनानुमासं तथा गंधोदकेन च
For a month, with pañcagavya and also with fragrant water, in this manner.
पाटलां शंभुसहितां पादयोस्तु प्रपूजयेत्
One should worship Pāṭalā, together with Śambhu, at the feet.
भद्रेश्वरेण सहितां विजयां जानुनोर्युगे
Vijayā, together with Bhadreśvara, at the pair of knees.
कोटनीं शूलिनं कुक्षौ मंगलां शर्वसंयुताम् 4.25.
Koṭanī, the wielder of the trident, at the belly, and Maṅgalā, united with Śarva.
अनंतां त्रिपुरघ्रं च पूजयेत्करसंपुटे
One should worship Anaṃtā and Tripuraghra in the hollow of the hands.
सर्वात्मना च सहितां ललितां मस्तकोपरि पूजयेद्भक्तिसहितो गन्धमाल्यानुलेपनैः
One should worship Lalitā, together with Sarvātman, upon the head, with devotion, using fragrant unguents and garlands.
एवमभ्यर्च्य विधिवत्सौभाग्याष्टकमग्रतः
Having thus worshipped properly, the Saubhāgyāṣṭaka should be placed in front.
तवराजेक्षुलवणं कुंकुमं च तथाष्टमम्
Sugarcane, salt, and also kuṃkuma—these eight things.
एवं निवेद्य तत्सर्वं शिवयोः प्रीयतामिति
Having offered all these in this way, one should say, 'May this please Śiva and Pārvatī.'
ततः प्रातः समुत्थाय कृतप्राण जयः शुचिः सौभाग्याष्टकसंयुक्तं सौवर्णचरणद्वयम्
Then, rising in the morning, having performed the vital rites, pure, with the Saubhāgyāṣṭaka, and a pair of golden feet—
प्रीयतामत्र ललिता ब्राह्मणाय निवे दयेत्
May Lalitā be pleased here; one should offer them to a brāhmaṇa.
प्राशने नाममंत्रे च विशेषोऽयं निबोध मे

ज्येष्ठे मंदारपुष्पं च बिल्वपत्रं शुचौ स्मृंतम्
In the month of Jyeṣṭha, the mandāra flower and bilva leaf are considered pure.
