एवं संकल्प्य विधिवत्कौंतेय कृतनिश्चयः
Thus, having resolved in the prescribed manner, O Kaunteya, with firm determination,
नद्यां तडागे वाप्यां वा गृहे वा नियतात्मवान्
One who is self-controlled should perform it by a river, in a pond, a reservoir, or at home.
प्रभाते भोजयेद्विद्वाञ्छिवभक्तान्विशेषतः गौरीश्वरं यथाशक्ति भोजयेत्प्रयता सती
In the morning, the wise should feed devotees of Shiva especially, and the devoted wife should offer food to Gaurishvara according to her ability.
अनेन विधिना राजन्यः कुर्यान्मासि पौषके
A Kshatriya should perform this rite in the month of Pausha according to this procedure.
हिरण्यं जीरकं चैव स्वशक्त्या दापयेत्ततः 4.24.
Then, according to one's capacity, one should give gold and cumin.
वाजपेयातिरात्राभ्यां फलं प्राप्नोत्यसंशयः
One undoubtedly attains the fruit of the Vajapeya and Atiratra sacrifices.
माघे मासि तृतीयायां सुदेवीं नाम पूजयेत्
In the month of Māgha, on the third day, one should worship the goddess named Sudevī.
प्रातः कुसुंभं कनकं दद्या च्छक्त्या द्विजातिषु
In the morning, according to one's ability, one should give safflower and gold to the twice-born.
गौरीति फाल्गुने नाम गोक्षीरं प्राशयेन्निशि
In the month of Phālguna, one should offer cow's milk at night, invoking the name Gaurī.
कडुहुंडं सकनकं तेभ्यो दत्त्वा विसर्जयेत्
After giving sweet balls with gold to them, one should respectfully dismiss them.
चैत्रे मासि विशालाक्षीं पूजयेद्भक्तितत्परा सौभाग्यं महदाप्नोति विशालाक्ष्याः प्रसादतः
In the month of Chaitra, with devotion, one should worship Viśālākṣī; by the grace of Viśālākṣī, one attains great good fortune.
वैशाखस्य तृतीयायां श्रीमुखीं नाम पूजयेत्
On the third day of Vaiśākha, one should worship the goddess named Śrīmukhī.
शिवभक्तान्द्विजान्प्रातर्भोजयित्वा यथेप्सितम् अनेन विधिना दत्त्वा पुत्रानाप्नोति शोभनान्
In the morning, after feeding devoted Brāhmaṇas of Śiva as desired, and giving as prescribed, one obtains excellent sons.
आषाढे माधवीं नत्वा प्राश्नीयाच्च तिलोदकम् सकांचनः शुभांल्लोकान्प्राप्नोति हि न संशयः
In Āṣāḍha, after bowing to Mādhavī, one should drink water mixed with sesame; with gold, one certainly attains auspicious worlds—there is no doubt.
श्रावणे तु श्रियं पूज्य पिबेद्गोशृंगजं जलम् सर्वलोकेश्वरो भूत्वा सर्वकामानवाप्नुयात् ।। 4.24.
In Śrāvaṇa, after worshipping Śrī, one should drink water from a cow's horn; becoming lord of all worlds, one attains all desires.
भाद्रे चैव तृतीयायां हरतालीति पूज येत् इह लोके सुखं भुक्त्वा चांते शिवपुरं ब्रजेत्
In Bhādra, on the third day, one should worship Haratālī; enjoying happiness in this world, at the end one attains the city of Śiva.
आश्विने तु तृतीयायां गिरिपुत्रीति पूजयेत्
In Āśvina, on the third day, one should worship the goddess called Giriputrī.
दक्षिणा चापि निर्दिष्टा कनकं च सचन्दनम्
A prescribed gift is also given: gold along with sandalwood.
पद्मोद्भवा कार्तिके च पञ्चगव्यं पिबेत्ततः
In Kārtika, to Padmodbhavā, one should then drink pañcagavya.
सपत्नीकाञ्छुभाचारान्माल्यवस्त्र विभूषणैः
Together with one's wife, with pure conduct, adorned with garlands, garments, and ornaments,
उमामहेश्वरं हैमं समाप्ते कारयेन्नृप
O king, at the conclusion, one should have a golden image of Umā and Maheśvara made.
अशनं च शुभं दद्याच्छ्वेतच्छत्रं कमंडलुम्
One should give auspicious food, a white umbrella, and a water pot.
पीतयज्ञोपवीतैश्च दीपनेत्रैः समुज्ज्वलैः
With yellow sacred threads and bright lamps,
उमामहेश्वरं स्थाप्य पूजयित्वा यथाविधि
After installing Umā and Maheśvara, one should worship them according to the proper method.
घृतपक्वैश्च नैवेद्यैर्दीपमालाभिरेव च 4.24.
With offerings prepared in clarified butter and rows of lamps as well.
जीरकैर्लवणैश्चैव कुसुम्भैः कुंकुमैस्तथा पूजयेद्देवदेवेशं क्षमयेत्तदनंतरम्
With cumin seeds, salts, safflowers, and also with saffron, one should worship the Lord of gods and then seek forgiveness.
शंखवादित्रनिर्घोषैर्वेदध्वनिसमन्वितैः
With the resounding of conches and musical instruments, accompanied by the sound of the Vedas.
पूर्वोक्तफलभागी स्यात्सर्वदेवैश्च पूज्यते
He attains the previously described reward and is worshipped by all the gods.
तदंते शिवसायुज्यं प्राप्नोतीह न संशयः
At the end, he certainly attains union with Shiva in this world—there is no doubt.
योऽहं सा च स्मृता गौरी या गौरी स महेश्वरः
I am she who is called Gauri, and Gauri is that great Lord.
