शिरसि प्रक्षिपेत्तोयं ध्यायंती मनसेप्सितम्
One should pour that water on the head, meditating on the desired object in the mind.
भद्रेश्वरा ततो देवी ललिता शंकरप्रिया
Then, O goddess Bhadreśvarā, Lalitā, beloved of Śaṃkara,
सौभाग्यारोग्यपुत्रार्थमर्थार्थं हरवल्लभे
For the sake of good fortune, health, sons, and wealth, O beloved of Hara,
दत्त्वा हिरण्यं तत्तस्मै प्राश्नीयाच्च कुशोदकम्
Having given gold to that one, one should also drink water with kuśa grass.
ध्यायमाना उमां दैवीं हरिते यवसंस्तरे
Meditating on the divine Umā, seated on a green bed of barley,
यथाशक्ति द्विजान्पूज्य ततो भुञ्जीत वाग्यता
Having worshipped the twice-born according to one's ability, then one should eat, observing silence.
द्वितीये पार्वतीनाम तृतीये शंकरप्रिया
In the second month, she is called Pārvatī; in the third, she is beloved of Śaṃkara.
दक्षस्य दुहिता षष्ठे मैनाकी सप्तमे स्मृता
In the sixth, she is known as the daughter of Dakṣa; in the seventh, as Mainākī.
दशमे मासि विख्याता देवि सौभाग्यदायिनी ।।4.21.
In the tenth month, the goddess is renowned as the bestower of good fortune.
कुशोदकं पयः सर्प्पिर्गोमूत्रं गोमय फलम्
Kuśa water, milk, clarified butter, cow urine, cow dung, and fruit—
पञ्चगव्यं तथा शाकः प्राशनानि क्रमादमी
Pañcagavya, as well as vegetables—these are to be consumed in order.
ददाति श्रद्धयैतानि वाचके ब्राह्मणोत्तमे
One should give these with faith to an excellent Brāhmaṇa who is learned in the scriptures.
दत्तैरेभिः सूर्यस्था त्वं सूर्यस्था तुष्यसि प्रिये
By giving these, you, who dwell in the sun, are pleased, O beloved, as you reside in the sun.
ओङ्कारपूर्वको देवि नमस्कारांत ईरितः
O goddess, preceded by Oṃ and ending with salutation, the mantra is recited.
तुष्टा त्वभीप्सितान्कामान्ददासि प्रीतिपूर्वकम्
When pleased, you grant the desired wishes with affection.
सहितं भार्ययाभ्यर्च्य गंधपुष्पादिभिः शुभैः
Worship together with one's wife, using auspicious scents, flowers, and the like.
अन्नं सदक्षिणं दद्यात्तथा शुक्ले च वाससी
One should give food with proper gifts, as well as white garments.
ब्राह्मणे श्रद्धया युक्तस्तस्यां फलमिदं शृणु
With faith, one should give to a Brāhmaṇa; listen to the fruit of this.
मोदते भर्तृसहिता यथेंद्रेण शची तथा 4.21.
She rejoices with her husband just as Śacī does with Indra.
पुण्ये कुले श्रिया युक्ता नीरोगा सुखमश्नुते
Born in a virtuous family, endowed with prosperity, she enjoys happiness free from disease.
पुत्रान्भोगांस्तथा रूपं सौभाग्यारोग्यमेव च
She obtains sons, enjoyments, beauty, good fortune, and health.
शृणुयाद्वाच्यमानं तु भक्त्या या ललिताव्रतम्
Whoever listens with devotion to the narration of the Lalitā vow—
संपूज्य लक्षललितां ललितांगयष्टिं गंधोदकामृतघटीं शिरसि क्षिपेद्यः
Having worshipped a hundred thousand Lalitā images, and the Lalitā staff, and poured perfumed water and nectar on the head—
अवियोगतृतीयाव्रतवर्णनम् वद नारी नरश्रेष्ठ व्रजेद्येन शिवालयम्
O best of men, tell me about the vow of the third day of separation, by which a woman may go to the abode of Śiva.
विधवा च परे लोके भूयोऽपि न वियुज्यते
And the widow, in the next world, is never separated again.
लब्ध्वा हि भवतो जन्म दक्षकोपाद्वियुक्तया
Indeed, having obtained rebirth because of Daksha's wrath, she was separated.
महासौभाग्यसंदोहं दृष्ट्वा देव्या महात्मना
Having seen the great abundance of good fortune belonging to the noble goddess,
आचम्य च शुचिर्भूत्वा दंडवच्छंकरं नमेत्
After sipping water and becoming pure, one should bow down to Shankara, lying prostrate.
औदुम्बरमृजुं गृह्य भक्षयेद्दंतधावनम्
Taking a straight twig from the udumbara tree, one should clean the teeth with it.
द्वितीयायां परे वाह्नि गौरीं शंभुं च पूजयेत् पात्रे संस्थाप्य संपूज्य जागरं निशि कल्पयेत्
On the second day, or on another auspicious day, one should worship Gauri and Shambhu, placing them in a vessel, worshipping them, and keeping vigil at night.
