एवं करोमि वै मातर्मम चोक्तं पुरस्त्वया
'Thus I do, O Mother, as you previously instructed me.'
मेनोवाच कुरु पार्श्वेषु पञ्चाग्नीञ्ज्वालमानान्हुताशनान्
Mena said: 'Arrange five fires blazing at your sides.'
गार्हपत्यं दक्षिणाग्निमन्यं चाहवनीयकम्
'The household fire, the southern fire, and another called the āhavanīya.'
एतेषां मध्यतो भूत्वा तिष्ठ पूर्वमुखा चिरम्
'Standing in the midst of these, facing east, remain for a long time.'
मृगाजिनच्छन्नकुचां जटावल्कलधारिणीम्
'With breasts covered by a deerskin, wearing matted locks and bark garments,'
महालक्ष्मीर्महाकाली महामाया महामतिः
'You are Mahalakshmi, Mahakali, Mahamaya, and of great wisdom.'
सरस्वती वैतरिणी सैव प्रोक्ता महासती
Sarasvatī is indeed the same as the Vaitaraṇī, renowned as the great and virtuous river.
होमं कुर्युर्यतात्मानो ब्राह्मणाः सर्वतोदिशम्
The self-controlled Brāhmaṇas should perform the homa in all directions.
बहुप्रकारनैवेद्यं नैवेद्यं घृतपाचितम् 4.18.
A variety of offerings should be prepared, with the food sanctified by ghee.
जीरकं कडुहुंडश्चाप्यपूपान्कुसुमं तथा
Cumin, kaḍuhuṃḍa, apūpa cakes, and flowers should also be included.
पुष्पमंडपिका कार्या गंधपुष्पाधिवासिता ततः प्रणम्य रुद्राणीं मंत्रमेतमुदीरयेत्
A pavilion adorned with flowers and scented with fragrance should be made; then, bowing to Rudrāṇī, one should recite this mantra.
वेदेषु सर्वशास्त्रेषु दिवि भूमौ धरातले
In the Vedas, in all the scriptures, in heaven, and upon the earth,
त्वं शक्तिस्त्वं स्वधा स्वाहा त्वं सावित्री सरस्वती
You are power, you are Svadhā, you are Svāhā, you are Sāvitrī, you are Sarasvatī.
एवं संक्षमयेद्देवीं प्रणिपत्य पुनःपुनः आच्छाद्यद्वारकेदारकपोतादिविभूषितम्
Thus, having repeatedly bowed to the goddess, one should cover her with decorations of doors, fields, and doves.
कुड्यस्तंभगवाक्षाढ्यं मणिमंडिततोरणम्
With walls, pillars, windows, and jeweled arches adorned.
गृहदानविधानेन ब्राह्मणाय यशस्विने
According to the house-giving rite, to the illustrious Brāhmaṇa,
सुवासिनीभ्यस्तद्देयं नैवेद्यं सूर्यसंस्थितम्
That offering, sanctified by the sun, should be given to married women.
दांपत्यानि च भोज्यानि चतुर्थ्यां मधुरै रसैः
On the fourth day, food and delicacies with sweet flavors should be given to couples.
व्रतांतेगस्त्यमुनये दत्तं गृहवरं शुभम् 4.18.
At the conclusion of the vow, a beautiful house should be given to Agastya and Yamunā.
तेन धर्मेण देव त्वं भर्ता लब्धोऽसि शंकरः
By that righteous act, O god, you have obtained Śaṃkara as your husband.
कौंतेय पुरुषो वापि ख्यातं रंभाव्रतं भुवि
O son of Kuntī, whether man or woman, the renowned Rambhā vow is observed on earth.
स्त्रीणां चातुर्यसौभाग्यं गार्हस्थ्यं सर्वकामिकम् सपत्नीदर्पदलनं वशीकरणमुत्तमम्
For women, it brings cleverness, good fortune, fulfillment in household life, all desires, the destruction of co-wife's pride, and supreme mastery.
हिमवद्विंध्ययोर्मध्ये आर्यावर्ते मनोहरे
Between the Himālaya and Vindhya mountains, in the delightful land of Āryāvarta,
मृतः शक्रपुरं याति ततो विष्णुपुरं व्रजेत्
One who dies there goes to the city of Indra, and then proceeds to the city of Viṣṇu.
यद्रंभया किल भयापहरं ततश्च गौर्या हिमाद्रिभवनस्थितयापि चीर्णम्
Because of fear, that which removes fear was indeed performed by Gauri, even while she dwelt in the abode of Himavat.
गोपदतृतीयाव्रतवर्णनम् तृतीयायां चतुर्थ्यां च शुद्धायां प्रतिवत्सरम्
The description of the Gopada vow on the third lunar day: On the pure third or fourth lunar day, every year,
उपवासेन गृह्णीयाद्व्रतं नाम्ना तु गोपदम्
One should undertake the vow called Gopada, with fasting.
दध्यक्षतैश्च मालाभिः पिष्टकैर्वनमालया
With curd, unbroken grains, garlands, cakes, and wildflower wreaths,
दद्याद्गवाह्निकं भक्त्या तासां पूर्वापराह्णयोः
One should devotedly offer the daily oblation for cows, both in the forenoon and afternoon.
व्रजंतीनां गवां नित्यमायांतीनां च भारत अर्घ्यं प्रदद्याद्गृष्ट्यां वा गवां पादेषु पांडव
O Bhārata, for cows as they go out and return daily, one should offer arghya with water at their feet, O Pāṇḍava.
