एतद्व्रतं मया ख्यातं यास्यंति शाश्वतीः समा
I have declared this vow, by which they will attain eternal years.
स्थित्वा वर्षशतं चान्ते ततो रुद्रपुरं शुभम्
After remaining for a hundred years, then they reach the auspicious city of Rudra.
तत्र त्वारमयिष्यंति स्वभर्तॄन्वत्सरान्बहून्
There, they will quickly reunite with their husbands for many years.
अर्घं महार्घमणिकुंकुमकेसराढ्यं स्रग्गंधमुग्धमुखरालि कुलोपगीतम्
An offering, highly valuable, adorned with jewels, saffron, and kesar, with a garland, fragrance, sweet milk, and praised by flocks of bees.
मेघपालीतृतीयाव्रतवर्णनम् मेघपालीव्रत कृष्ण कदाचित्क्रियते नृभिः
Description of the Meghapālī third vow: O Krishna, the Meghapālī vow is sometimes performed by men.
मेघपाल्यै प्रदातव्यो भक्त्या स्त्रीभिर्नृभिस्तथा
To Meghapālī, offerings should be given with devotion by women and also by men.
अर्घो विरूढैर्गोधूमैः सप्तधान्यसमन्वितैः
The offering consists of sprouted wheat, combined with seven kinds of grains.
तांबूलसदृशैः पर्वै रक्ता वल्ली समंजरी
With joints resembling betel leaves, red creepers with clusters of flowers.
मेघपाल्यां धान्यतैलगुडकुंकुमहैमनान्
In the Meghapālī, grains, oil, jaggery, saffron, and gold are included.
पापं सत्यानृतं कृत्वा द्रव्यलुब्धाः फलान्विताः
Those greedy for wealth, even after committing sins of truth and falsehood, obtain results.
मानोन्मानैर्जन्म मध्ये यत्पापं कुत्रचित्कृतम्
Whatever sin is committed anywhere in the course of life, through pride or arrogance—
मेघपाली शुभे स्थाने शुभे देशे समुत्थिता
Meghapālī, established in a pure place, in a pure land, arises.
खर्जूरैर्नालिकेरैश्च दाडिमैः करवीरकैः
With dates, coconuts, pomegranates, and oleander flowers.
रक्तवस्त्रैः समाच्छाद्य पिष्टातकविभूषिताम् 4.17.
Covered with red cloths, adorned with flour cakes.
वेदोक्तेन द्विजो विद्वांस्तच्च तस्यै निवेदयेत्
A learned Brahmin, according to the Vedic injunction, should offer that to her.
नारी वा पुरुषव्याघ्र प्राप्नोति परमां श्रियम्
O tiger among men, whether woman or man, attains supreme prosperity.
विष्णुलोकमवाप्नोति देहांते यानसंस्थितः उद्धृत्य नात्र संदेहस्त्वया कार्यो युधिष्ठिर
At the end of the body, one attains the world of Vishnu, riding in a chariot; there is no doubt about this, O Yudhishthira, you should act accordingly.
नरक भीरुतया ददाति योऽर्घ्यं फलाद्यनुयुतं ननु मेघपालेः
Out of fear of hell, whoever gives an offering accompanied by fruits and so on to Meghapālī—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे मेघपालीतृतीयाव्रतवर्णनं नाम सप्तदशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the seventeenth chapter named 'The Description of the Meghapala Third Vow' is concluded.
रूपरम्भाव्रतवर्णनम् स्त्रीणां संपद्यते येन मर्त्यलोके गृहं शुभम्
The description of the Rūparambhā vow: By which, in the mortal world, women attain a prosperous and auspicious household.
कैलासशिखरे रम्ये नानाधातुविचित्रिते
On the beautiful summit of Kailasa, adorned with various metals,
नानाद्रुमलताकीर्णे नानापुष्पोपशोभिते
Covered with many kinds of trees and creepers, and splendid with diverse flowers,
शंकरः पार्वतीं प्राह किं त्वया सद्व्रतं कृतम्
Shankara said to Parvati, 'What noble vow have you performed?'
आगच्छ जानुदेशं तु सुप्रसन्ना तथा प्रिये
'Come to my knee, O supremely pleased and beloved one.'
इत्युक्ता प्रणता भूत्वा गौरी प्राह शिवं शुभा
Thus addressed, Gauri, having bowed, spoke auspiciously to Shiva.
तेन मे त्वं मनोहारी भर्ता लब्धोसि शंकर
'By that, O Shankara, you, the captivating one, have become my husband.'
ब्रूहि पार्वति यत्नेन यच्चीर्णं पितुरंतिके
'Tell me, Parvati, with effort, what was performed in the presence of your father.'
पुराहं देव तिष्ठामि कुमारी भवने पितुः
'Formerly, O Deva, I dwelled as a maiden in my father's house.'
ततोऽहं मेनया प्रोक्ता स्वपित्रा च हिमाद्रिणा 4.18.
'Then, I was instructed by Mena and also by my father, Himavan.'
येन प्रारब्धमात्रेण सर्वं संपत्स्यते तव
'By the mere undertaking of which, all will be accomplished for you.'
