Until their impurities are destroyed, just as metals are placed in fire—
Firmly bound with strong, heated chains, the men—
Then, by the machinery of serpents, they are cast and swung by the servants—
For those who are suspended in the air, a hundred weights of iron—
By that great weight, the men are severely tormented—
With flames like fire and iron rods with thorns—
Then, with caustic alkali, and especially with blazing fire,
Again, their limbs are torn open, beginning with the head, in succession.
Then, in a well filled with excrement, in a mass of worms,
They are devoured by sharp-toothed worms and by crows with iron beaks.
They are cooked, like meat, on heaps of blazing coals.
Seized, as if by balls of sesame, by their own terrible deeds,
They are also broken apart on beds, many times, with iron pestles.
For the one who speaks false scriptures, and for the double-tongued, these punishments arise.
Those cruel ones who revile mother, father, or teacher,
Then, with caustic alkali and again and again with heated copper,
Here and there, their mouth is repeatedly filled and struck violently.
They are made to embrace the terrible, blazing iron Śālmalī tree.
With a very sharp saw, with powerful teeth, their own flesh is eaten, and they are made to drink their own blood.
By those fools who did not give food or drink, nor even approve of it,
In the dreadful black salt plain, they are cut into pieces, bound tightly, helpless, tormented, yet do not die.
Their flesh is torn from their bodies, their bones are broken with clubs.
Cast out, breathless, they remain in hell without doubt.
In Raurava, as they weep, they are tormented by various arrows.
On the feet, mouth, anus, sides, chest, and head—
They are made to roll again and again on burning hot sand.
With that very same form, they mock the adulterer.
And the man, in his previous shape, is seen burning all around.
Why do you run swiftly? There is no liberation for you now.
They are cast into iron cauldrons, with proper measures, slowly and gradually.
