With the two lips as doors, furnished with teeth, tongue, and palate,
Afflicted by old age and sorrow, situated in the fire of the wheel of time,
Tormented by the thirst for enjoyment, deluded, following the sway of passion and hatred.
Having emerged through the narrow, confined birth passage,
Thus, this body-house is said to be impermanent for the eternal self.
Because the body is produced from the union of semen and blood.
Just as a pot is not pure on the outside if it is filled with impurity within,
So too, even after obtaining purifying substances and the five sacred offerings here,
Even when the body is cleansed with pañcagavya, kuśa grass, and water,
If its channels constantly flow, as streams from a mountain,
There is no purity for a body that is the repository of all impurities.
Even if the body is carefully treated with fragrant incense and the like,
Just as one who is black by birth cannot become white by any means,
Even while smelling his own foul odor and seeing his own filth,
Ah, such is the greatness of delusion, by which the world is bewildered.
Thus, this body is certainly impure by its very nature.
The memory that existed in the womb is lost after birth.
And by the external air, called delusion, of the embodied being,
From that great fever arises a great delusion.
Due to the loss of memory here, and because of previous actions,
This world, attached to the deluded, proceeds towards improper actions.
He does not hear the highest good, nor does he see it even when he has eyes.
Even when his intellect is present, he does not understand, even when instructed by the wise.
Because of the absence of memory from the womb, as declared by the great sages in the scriptures,
Those who are established in that supreme knowledge, which fulfills all desires and aims,
Because the functions of the senses are unmanifest in childhood, great suffering arises again.
When teeth emerge, there is great pain, and likewise from the affliction of disease at the crown.
Someone, tormented by thirst and hunger, stands crying out, his body afflicted.
In childhood, from ear-piercing and from the beating by mother and father,
When the functions of the senses are clear, suffering arises from the torment of desire and passion.
