इत्युक्त्वा स्वमुरोहस्तैर्जघान भृशदुःखिता
Having spoken thus, she struck her own chest with her hands, greatly distressed.
सोऽपि राजा विषण्णोऽसौ निर्विण्णः शोकसागरे
That king too was dejected, submerged in an ocean of sorrow.
विषण्णो मंत्रिभिः सार्धं वृद्धशोकेन संयुतः
He was despondent, together with his ministers, afflicted by deep grief.
द्विजवेषपरिच्छन्न उपविष्टः सुखासने
Disguised in the attire of a Brahmin, he sat on a comfortable seat.
किं रोदनेन बहुना युवयोः क्लेशकारिणा
What is the use of much weeping by you both, which only brings suffering?
शोभने यादृशः शोकः कृतः संसारसागरे
O beautiful one, such sorrow has been created in the ocean of worldly existence.
पुरंदरसहस्राणि चक्रवर्तिशतानि च 4.3.
Thousands of Indras and hundreds of emperors have existed.
येऽपि शोषयितुं शक्ताः समुद्रं ग्राहसंकुलम्
Even those who are able to dry up the ocean filled with monsters,
कुर्युश्च करयुग्मेन चूर्णं मेरुं महीतले
And who could, with their hands, grind Mount Meru to powder on the earth,
ऊद्धर्तुं धरणीसंज्ञां ग्रहीतुं चन्द्रभास्करौ
Who could lift up the earth, seize the moon and the sun,
दुर्गस्त्रिकूटः परिखाः समुद्रा रक्षांसि योधा धनदाच्च वित्तम्
Fortresses, triple peaks, moats, oceans, guards, warriors, and wealth from Kubera,
संग्रामे गजतुरगसमाकुलेऽपि वादादग्नौ वा गतविवरे महोदधौ वा
Even in battle, amidst elephants and horses, or in the fire of dispute, or in the depths of the great ocean,
पातालमाविशतु यातु सुरेन्द्रलोकमारोहतु क्षितिधराधिपतिं सुमेरुम्
Let him enter the netherworld, let him ascend to the realm of the gods, or let him reach the lord of the mountains, Sumeru.
रोदिति कश्चिदथाश्रुधौताननगुरुतरशोकविह्वलः
Someone weeps, his face washed with tears, overwhelmed by intense sorrow.
गायति हृदयहारि सुखनिर्भरमायतविस्तृताऽधरोऽधिकम्
Another sings, his lips wide and full, his song overflowing with happiness, captivating the heart.
इत्येवं धर्ममुद्दिश्य विष्णुः संसारचेष्टितम्
