इत्येभिर्नामभिस्त्वन्ये दानवानां जिघांसया
By these names, others, with the intent to destroy the Dānavas—
सरूपाश्चान्यरूपाश्च विरूपाः कामरूपिणः
Some have similar forms, others have different forms, some are deformed, and some can assume forms at will.
धातुर्दिविति वै प्रोक्तो क्रीडायां स तु उच्यते
The root 'div' is indeed spoken of as play; it is thus called.
ऋचो यजूंषि सामानि यान्युक्तानीह वै मया
The Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma hymns which have been recited here by me—
ते श्रुत्वाराध्य देवेशं संसिद्धा दिवि संस्थिताः ।। 1.124.
Having heard them, and having worshipped the Lord of the gods, they attained perfection and abided in heaven.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे ब्रह्मर्षिसंवादे प्रवरवर्णनं नाम चतुर्विंशत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and twenty-fourth chapter, named 'The Description of the Excellent,' in the dialogue of the Brahmarshis, in the Saptamikalpa, in the Brahma Parvan of the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana.
व्यासागमनवर्णनम् श्रीगणेशाय नमः श्रीसरस्वत्यै नमः ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय कल्याणानि ददातु वो गणपतिर्यस्मिन्नतुष्टे सति क्षोदीयस्यपि कर्मणि प्रभवितुं ब्रह्मापि जिह्मायते
The Arrival of Vyāsa. Salutation to Śrī Gaṇeśa, salutation to Śrī Sarasvatī. Om, obeisance to the Blessed Vāsudeva. May Gaṇapati grant you auspiciousness; when he is pleased, even in the smallest task, Brahmā himself becomes powerless to obstruct.
शश्वत्पुण्यहिरण्यगर्भरसनासिंहासनाध्यासिनी सेयं वागधिदेवता वितरतु श्रेयांसि भूयांसि वः
May this goddess, the presiding deity of speech, ever pure, seated upon the golden lotus throne of the cosmic egg, bestow upon you ever greater blessings.
नमस्तस्मै विश्वोदयविलयरक्षाप्रकृतये शिवाय क्लेशौघच्छिदुरपद् पद्मप्रणतये
Salutation to that auspicious one, the source, dissolution, and protector of the universe, who destroys the multitude of afflictions, and to whom those devoted to the lotus feet bow.
यस्य गण्डतले भाति विमला षट्प दावली
Upon whose cheek shines a pure row of six teeth—
ॐ नमो वासुदेवाय सशार्ङ्गाय सकेतवे
Om, obeisance to Vāsudeva, who bears the Śārṅga bow, who dwells in Ayodhyā.
नमः शिवाय सोमाय सगणाय ससूनवे
Obeisance to Śiva, to Soma, to him with his attendants, and to his son.
शिवं ध्यात्वा हरिं स्तुत्वा प्रणम्य परमे ष्ठिनम्
Having meditated on Śiva, praised Hari, and bowed to the Supreme Lord—
छत्राभिषिक्तं धर्मज्ञं धर्मपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम्
To Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Dharma, who knows righteousness, and who was anointed with the royal umbrella—
मार्कण्डेयः समाण्डव्यः शाण्डिल्यः शाकटायनः
Markaṇḍeya, Samaṇḍavya, Śāṇḍilya, and Śākaṭāyana—
जामदग्न्यो भरद्वाजो भृगु र्भागुरिरेव च 4.1.
Jāmadagnya, Bharadvāja, Bhṛgu, and Bhāguri as well—
पुलस्त्यः पुलहो दाल्भ्यो बृहदश्वः सलोमशः
Pulastya, Pulaha, Dālbha, Bṛhadaśva, and Salomaśa—
तानृषीनागतान्दृष्ट्वा वेदवेदाङ्गपारगान्
Seeing those sages who had arrived, accomplished in the Vedas and Vedāṅgas—
युधिष्ठिरः संप्रहृष्टः समुत्थायाभिवाद्य च
Yudhiṣṭhira, delighted, rose up and greeted them.
उपविष्टेषु तेष्वेव तपस्विषु युधिष्ठिरः
When those ascetics had taken their seats, Yudhiṣṭhira—
भगवंस्त्वत्प्रसादेन प्राप्तं राज्यं महन्मया
O Lord, through your grace, I have attained this great kingdom.
सरोगस्य यथा भोगः प्राप्तोऽपि न सुखावहः
Just as enjoyment for one who is ill, though obtained, does not bring happiness.
यत्सुखं पावनं प्रीतिर्वनमूलफलाशिनाम्
The happiness and pure delight found by those who eat fruits and roots in the forest.
यो नो बन्धुर्गुरुर्गोप्ता सदा शर्म च वर्म च
He who is our friend, teacher, protector, always brings us joy and shields us.
अविवेकमहं धास्ये मनो मे पापपङ्किलम्
I shall abandon lack of discernment; my mind is stained by sin.
संश्रुतानि पुराणानि वेदास्सांगा मया विभो 4.1.
O Lord, I have heard the ancient texts and the Vedas with their branches.
एते सधर्मगोप्तारो मुनयः समुपागताः
These sages, who protect righteousness, have now arrived.
अर्थशास्त्राणि यावंति धर्मशास्त्राणि यानि वै
As many treatises on wealth and as many scriptures on righteousness as there are.
स्वर्गं गते शान्तनवे भवान्कृष्णोऽथ यादवः
When Shantanu went to heaven, you, Krishna, and the Yadava also.
सत्यं सत्यवतीसूनुर्धर्मराजाय वक्ष्यति
The son of Satyavati will speak the truth to King Dharma.
