With pure garments, royal fragrance, garlands, and ornaments,
Having understood the completion of all rites, the devotee should indeed offer worship.
Both occasional and regular gifts must be given, without withholding the prescribed donation.
Just as a sacrifice without a gift yields no result,
O illustrious one, the regular gift for royalty should be fourfold.
Thus, O king, this rule concerning the hearing of the Purāṇa has been declared.
Bathing, charity, recitation, oblation, and honoring ancestors and deities—
—and likewise, O tiger among kings, listening to the Purāṇa is fruitful.
As has been stated, so should it be practiced, as declared by the knower of Brahman.
O mighty-armed one, just as it was heard, so has this been related to you.
Thus, the observance of the Saptamī rite removes all sin and fear.
Having attained the world of Bhaga, it is praised in the three worlds.
Therefore, O mighty-armed one, one attains the world of the Sun.
From there, one goes to the realm of truth, and then further to the lotus-born's abode.
By hearing, one obtains the fruit, just as the word of the grandsire declares.
Thus ends the two hundred sixteenth chapter, named 'Description of the Procedure for Hearing the Glory of the Sun,' in the Saptamī section of the Sauradharma, in the Brāhma Parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
Brahma said: Whoever, immersed, stands beyond the sky, is freed here, O Rudra, even from this punishment.
Long ago, having seized the head of Brahma, he stood, and thus that skull became his.
When, naked, he was seen by the sages in the forest of wood, and as the Lord of gods wandered for alms, he abandoned that punishment and then went to the world of the Sun, leaving those divine sages.
As he was approaching, the Pramathas said to him: 'O Lord of gods, why do you wander endlessly?'
Again the Pramathas said to him: 'In this very place, remain before the Sun.'
Thus addressed by the Pramathas, Rudra remained there to please the Sun.
Then, being addressed by the pleased Savitṛ, he said: 'I am satisfied by your coming, O god.'
These eighteen Pramathas belong to Bhānu, and fourteen others are stationed on the chariot of the Sun.
The Yakṣas and Siddhas, the night-wanderers, the two sons of the Sun, and the chief among the Apsarases.
Thus, all these foremost ancient gods become perfected beings through the words denoting the elements.
And because of this, O Brahman, curiosity arises among us here.
Brahma said: Again I shall tell you about Daṇḍanāyaka and Piṅgala.
Long ago, after coming together with me, the gods deliberated.
Having obtained boons, they became ministers and others, repeatedly.
