Now hear from me, as I speak, the description of the second rite of worship to Sūrya, performed with rays.
In the bright fortnight of Caitra, on the sixth day, having observed a proper fast,
And also performing the placing of Sūryādi-hṛdaya on the head,
That which was formerly declared by Brahmā, with devotion, for the great-souled Bhānu,
Hear that, O wise one, which is for the destruction of all sins.
Joined with the crest-jewel, the excellent nectar of the syllable 'va', Om—this is Sūrya himself, O dear one, the embodiment of mantra, of great power.
By remembering this, the chanter always enjoys sweet food.
Freed from disease and death, he attains the world of the Sun.
Whether by mind, action, speech, curse, or even by favor,
Having recited it one hundred and twenty thousand times, he ascends to heaven with his body.
Now hear this supreme, leftward (secret) heart of Sūrya.
Separated, united with the moon, and with the syllable 'ṛ', O Bhārata.
Joined with the dot over 'ya', Vaiśākha is declared by the wise.
I shall declare the desired armor and the prescribed weapon—listen to me.
O King, know from me that this is the weapon called Amṛta.
Om, O Brahman, the Amṛta weapon and the Gāyatrī are declared to you; your disease is said to be the cow.
The eyes and other limbs of the sun, of immeasurable radiance, are these.
One should contemplate Sāvitrī at the throat region, and the entirety at the crown of the head.
And in prāṇāyāma, together with the assembly of heroes.
Again, one should attain you, the one to be bound, by means of the letter 'va' and the self.
By doing this, one becomes equal to the sun—of this there is no doubt.
A splendid temple will result, O best of the Bharatas, by performing that.
Then, O King, one should worship with an arghya vessel and flowers, according to the proper method.
With the lotus gesture, containing flowers, one should place the deity upon the head.
With the heart joined to the arghya, one should perform the worship, O Bhārata.
One who is steadfast in vows, with restrained speech and senses, should recite as much as possible.
There will be no obstruction anywhere, nor will any misfortune arise.
Afterwards, O King, one should dismiss the deity with the heart.
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Brāhma Parvan, in the Saptamī section, is the two hundred and twelfth chapter named 'Description of the Method of Sūrya Worship in the Sūrya Dharma.'
Description of the method of Sūrya worship: One should recite the syllable 'ghu' together with its retinue.
