The sages said thus to the best of Brahmins: 'The sun alone.'
All those who take refuge in the sun, O child, rejoice in heaven.
Thus, the sun is now regarded as the fulfiller of all desires.
Worship him with devotion, reciting the supreme mantra.
Worshipping Ravi with devotion, reciting the Sāma, O wise one.
The fourfold system: Om, Pravara, Udgītha, and Prasthāna.
The fifth is renunciation here; the sixth is called wondrous.
It is declared as sevenfold, including the syllable 'hiṃ' and the sacred Om.
O dear one, among these Sāman hymns, recitation at the throat is considered the highest practice.
Hiraṇyanābha said: Excellent, my son! The lineage is purified by your son, who is equal to you.
Even after such a course, O son, the memory of the rule concerning sons has arisen for you.
Indeed, the best Sāman hymns have been declared by Brahmā; therefore, one supreme recitation should be performed, which removes all fear of sin.
O dear one, among these Sāman hymns, there is no other recitation that should be performed.
Therefore, the third should be heard and recited by one who desires liberation.
This is the supreme vow of the metres, prescribed by the deity itself.
Now hear from me about the recitation, its application, and its characteristics.
The season, the state, the law, the non-law, and the one who acts truthfully—these as well.
Whatever is sung with these words, beautifully, by the twice-born according to the rules—
He who recites this does not return again (to birth).
Reciting this hymn, worship the Sun.
Now I shall tell you, my son, the characteristics of the Jyeṣṭha Sāman as well.
Your recitation, O son, is always sung by the Sun with the Jyeṣṭha melody; by worshipping the Lord of the gods in this way, you will then abandon suffering.
He worshipped the Sun with devotion, endowed with faith.
While listening to the Purāṇas, the sin of killing a brāhmaṇa departed at that time; and, O tiger among the Kurus, this is the fruit of hearing.
The fruit obtained by reciting is the same as that by worshipping the deity, O king.
That brāhmaṇa, having become embodied, attained (liberation) by the grace of Bhāskara (the Sun).
He continues to revolve and has not yet attained the supreme state.
O hero, by fasting on this seventh day, one reaches the Sun.
By reciting and also by listening to the Purāṇas,
The sacred fruit of the Sun, dear to Ravi, grants merit and wealth.
