हृदयं चोत्तमांगं च शिखा वै वक्त्रमेव च
The heart, the crown of the head, the topknot, and indeed the mouth.
वरदाऽभयहस्ताश्च ध्यातव्या साधकेन तु
The hands granting boons and fearlessness are to be meditated upon by the practitioner.
विशेषः कथितो ह्येष कामरूपः स्वभावतः
This special form has been described, which by nature assumes any desired shape.
श्वेतवर्णं स्मरेत्सोमं रक्तवर्णं कुजं स्मरेत्
One should remember Soma as white in color, and Kuja as red in hue.
शंखक्षीरनिभं श्वेतं काणं चांजनसंनिभम्
One should remember the white one as resembling conch or milk, and the dark one as like collyrium.
वामहस्तौ कटिन्यस्तौ दक्षिणौ चाभयप्रदौ
The two left hands are placed at the waist, and the two right hands grant fearlessness.
इति भानुं ग्रहैः सार्धं ये ध्यायंति नृपोत्तम
Thus, O best of kings, those who meditate upon the Sun together with the planets—
तवाख्यातमिदं वक्त्रं ग्रहाणां भीष्म कृत्स्नशः
This account of the planets has been fully described to you, O Bhīṣma.
अनेन विधिना भीष्म सदा देवं दिवाकरम्
By this method, O Bhīṣma, one should always worship the god Sūrya.
इत्थं पूजयमानस्तु सर्वदेवं दिवाकरम्
Thus worshipping the Sun, who is all the gods, in this way—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मेषु सूर्यपूजामाहात्म्यवर्णन्ं नाम षडुत्तरद्विशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the two hundred and sixth chapter, named 'The Greatness of Sun Worship among the Sauradharmas in the Seventh Kalpa,' in the Sauradharma section of the Brāhma Parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
आदित्यपूजाविधिवर्णनम् पूजयंति सदा ह्येनं ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवादयः
Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva, and others always worship him in this manner.
व्यास उवाच एवमेतन्न संदेहो यथा वदसि भारत
Vyāsa said: It is indeed so, without doubt, just as you have spoken, O Bhārata.
नास्ति सूर्यसमं ब्रह्म नास्ति सूर्यसमं हुतम्
There is no Brahman equal to the Sun; there is no offering equal to the Sun.
नास्ति सूर्यादृते कामो नास्ति सूर्यादृते पदम्
There is no desire without the Sun; there is no goal without the Sun.
नास्ति सूर्यसमा माता नास्ति सूर्यसमो गुरुः
There is no mother equal to the Sun; there is no teacher equal to the Sun.
तमेकं दैवतं विद्यान्नैवाप्यर्कपरायणम्
Know that one god alone, who is devoted to the Sun, as supreme.
तमर्चंतः स्तुवंतश्च प्राप्नुवंति परां गतिम्
Those who worship and praise him attain the highest state.
राजा चोरा ग्रहाः सर्पा दारिद्र्यं दुःखसंपदः
Kings, thieves, planets, serpents, poverty, and misfortune—
स पूज्यः स नमस्कार्यः स हि ध्यातव्य एव च
He is to be worshipped, he is to be saluted, and he is indeed to be meditated upon.
प्रत्यक्षदेवता ह्येषा देवदेवोयमादरात् 1.207.
For this is the visible deity, the god of gods, to be revered.
पूजयेत्तनयः पापी तथादित्यदिनैरपि
Even a sinful son should worship him, especially on the days of the Sun.
प्राप्ते सूर्यदिने भक्त्या भानुं संपूज्य श्रद्धया
When the day of the Sun arrives, one should worship Bhānu with devotion and faith.
यस्तु पूर्वं रवेर्भक्त्या पञ्चरत्नसमन्वितम्
He who, with devotion, first worships Ravi with the five gems—
मार्तंडप्रीतये यस्तु कुर्याच्छ्राद्धं विधानतः
Whoever performs a śrāddha according to the prescribed rite for the pleasure of Mārtaṇḍa (the Sun),
कृत्वोपवासं षष्ठ्यां तु सप्तम्यां यस्तु मानवः
having observed a fast on the sixth or seventh day, that person,
सर्वदोषविनिर्मुक्तः सूर्यलोके महीयते
becomes free from all faults and is honored in the world of the Sun.
प्रपूज्य विधिवद्भानुं सर्वान्कामानवाप्नुयात्
By duly worshipping Bhānu (the Sun), one attains all desires.
इति भीष्म विजानीहि न देवो भास्करात्प्रियः
Thus, know this, Bhīṣma: there is no god dearer than Bhāskara (the Sun).
रत्नपर्वतमारुह्य यथा भुवि नराधिपाः
Just as kings ascend the jeweled mountain on earth,
