पद्माकारौ करौ कृत्वा मध्ये श्लिष्टे तु मध्यमे
Forming the hands in the shape of a lotus, with the middle fingers joined together in the center.
अनया बद्धया राजन्भास्करस्य प्रियो भवेत्
With this gesture bound, O King, one becomes dear to the Sun.
हृदयं तस्य विज्ञेयं यदक्षरवरं स्मृतम्
His heart should be understood as that which is remembered as the supreme syllable.
शिरस्यर्कमिति प्रोक्तं देवदेवस्य भारत
On the head, 'arka' is declared, O descendant of Bharata, for the Lord of gods.
अष्टाक्षरा तु विद्येयमादित्यस्य महात्मनः
This eight-syllabled mantra is to be known for the great-souled Āditya.
अकारेण समायुक्तं बिंदुरेफसमन्वितम्
It is joined with the letter 'a', endowed with the dot and the sound 'r'.
एकाक्षरमिदं प्रोक्तमभेद्यं यः स्मरेदिदम्
This single syllable is declared as indivisible; whoever remembers it—
सविसर्गो रेफ इति अस्त्रमेकाक्षरं स्मृतम्
With the visarga and the sound 'r', this single-syllabled weapon is remembered.
संमुखौ तौ करौ कृत्वा श्लिष्टौ तु ग्रथितांगुली
Placing both hands facing forward, with the fingers interlaced and joined.
हृच्छिरः सशिखा चर्मा मुद्रेयं व्योमसंज्ञिता
Heart, head, with the tuft, and skin—this gesture is called 'sky-sign'.
मालशब्दकृतादिस्तु मुद्रा ह्यस्त्रस्य कीर्तिता
The gesture made with the sound of a garland is proclaimed as the mudrā of the weapon.
कर्णबिंदुसमायुक्तं यं चतुर्थं महामते
With the dot at the ear, the fourth one, O wise one—
स्मरः स्यात्साधकेंद्राणां दुरंतो नाशने ध्रुवम्
It is surely the destroyer for the foremost of practitioners, difficult to overcome.
कनिष्ठानामिके कुंच्य अंगुष्ठेन ततः क्रमेत्
Bending the little and ring fingers, then proceeding with the thumb.
गोवृषा नाम विख्याता दर्शयेद्दिव्यगोचरम्
Known as 'Govṛṣā', it reveals the divine vision of the cow.
उभाह्वारूं विभूतिश्च विमला रें प्रकीर्तिता
Both arms, the sacred ash, and the pure sound 're' are proclaimed.
गोवृषा नाम रं सर्वं वीरभद्रकरी तथा
'Govṛṣā' is the name for 'raṃ', and likewise for the hand of Vīrabhadra.
उत्तानौ तु करौ कृत्वा सव्याकुंच्य ततोंगुलीः
With both hands extended, then bending the fingers of the left.
सर्वासां चैव शक्तीनामेता मुद्राः प्रदर्शयेत्
He should display these gestures for all the powers.
नामान्येतानि शक्तीनां समासात्कथितानि तु
These are the collective names of the powers that have been stated.
ग्रहाणां शृणु बीजानि रूपं च गदतो मम
Now hear from me the seed syllables and forms of the planets.
ॐकारा दीपिताः सर्वे नमस्कारांतयोजिताः
All are illuminated by the syllable Om and end with an expression of salutation.
होमकाले तु स्वाहांतं मंत्रं षट्कारसंयुतम्
At the time of offering, the mantra ends with 'svāhā' and is joined with six actions.
सोमाद्याः केतुपर्यंता ग्रहा ह्येवं प्रकीर्तिताः
The planets, beginning with Soma and ending with Ketu, are thus named.
सुमुखौ तु करौ कृत्वा श्लिष्टौ चैव प्रसारितौ
With both hands made beautiful, joined together and extended.
मंत्रोद्धारस्तवाख्यातो रहस्यो दुर्लभो नृप
The extraction of the mantra has been explained to you; it is secret and difficult to obtain, O king.
जपावर्णं महातेजं श्वेतपद्मोपरि स्थितम्
The syllable for recitation, of great brilliance, is situated upon a white lotus.
तथैकवक्त्रं द्विभुजं सोमपंकजकंधरम्
Likewise, with one face, two arms, and a neck adorned with a lunar lotus.
मार्तंडस्य इदं रूपं शुचिः स्नातो जितेंद्रियः
This is the form of the Sun; pure, having bathed, and with senses subdued.
सोऽचिराद्भवते लोके वित्तेन धनदोपमः
He soon becomes in the world equal in wealth to the god of riches.
