मनोवत्यां सुरज्येष्ठं सुखासीनं चतुर्मुखम्
Now I shall tell you the conversation that increases righteousness, which took place in the city of the mind, where the four-faced one sat comfortably, foremost among the gods.
आराधनविधिं ब्रूहि भास्करस्य महात्मनः
Tell me the method of worship of Bhāskara, the great-souled one.
कथमाराधयेद्भानुं मंडलस्थं दिवस्पतिम्
How should one worship Bhānu, the lord of the day, who is situated in the orb?
साधुसाधु महाबाहो साधु पृष्टोऽ स्मि भूधर
Excellent, excellent, O mighty-armed one, you have asked well, O mountain.
खषोल्कं निर्मलं देवं पूजयित्वा विभावसुम्
Having worshipped the pure deity Vibhāvasu with a spotless vessel,
क्रमेण यावदीशानीं हृदि बीजेन विन्यसेत्
Then, in order, one should place the seed syllable in the heart, up to Īśānī.
ततस्तस्योपरिष्टात्तु हृदयेन तु कंचु कम्
Then, above that, one should place the heart syllable and the lotus.
केसरालंबदेवत्वं पंचवर्णं महाद्भुतम्
The deity, adorned with filaments, of five colors, wondrous indeed.
दीप्तादि पूर्वादारभ्य यावदीशानगोचरम् 1.201.
Beginning from the east with Dīptā and so on, up to the region of Īśāna.
दीप्ता सूक्ष्मा जया भद्रा विभूतिर्विमला तथा
Dīptā, Sūkṣmā, Jayā, Bhadrā, Vibhūti, and Vimalā as well.
तत आवाहयेद्भानुं स्थापयेत्कर्णिकोपरि
Then one should invoke Bhānu and establish him upon the pericarp.
उदुत्यं जातवेदसमिति मंत्रः प्रकीर्तितः
The mantra 'udutyaṃ jātavedasam' is declared.
आकृष्णेन रजसा मंत्रेणानेन चार्चयेत्
He should worship with this mantra, which is endowed with dark energy.
अपप्तेतारकं देवीदीप्तानेन प्रपूजयेत्
He should honor the shining goddess with the starless mantra.
तरणिर्विश्वदर्शेति अनेन सततं जयम्
With the mantra 'taraṇir viśvadarśe', he always attains victory.
विभूतिमर्चयेन्नित्यं येनापावकचक्षसा
He should daily worship the glory with the mantra for the fire-eyed one.
अमोघां पूजयेन्नित्यं मंत्रेणानेन सुव्रत
O virtuous one, he should daily honor the unfailing one with this mantra.
मंत्रेणानेन कृष्णस्य उद्वयंतमितीह च
With this mantra of Krishna, the rising is accomplished here.
द्वितीयं पूजयेत्कृष्णं शुक्लेषु हरिमाहवे 1.201.
He should worship Krishna a second time, Hari among the white ones in battle.
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्येति चतुर्थं परिकीर्तितम्
The fourth is declared as 'tatsavitur vareṇyam'.
हिरण्यगर्भः समवर्तता षष्ठं बीजं प्रकीर्तितम्
The sixth seed is proclaimed as 'hiraṇyagarbhaḥ samavartatā'.
एवं बीजानि विन्यस्य आदित्यं स्थापयेद्द्विजः
Thus, having placed the seeds, the twice-born should establish the Sun.
बाह्यतो देवशार्दूल इन्द्रादीनां समंततः
Outside, O tiger among gods, he should place Indra and the others all around.
सर्वलक्षणसंयुक्तं सर्वाभरणभूषितम्
Endowed with all marks and adorned with every ornament.
वर्तुलं तेन बिंबेन मध्यस्थमतितेजसम्
With that circular disc, the exceedingly radiant one is placed at the center.
ध्यात्वा संपूजयेन्नित्यं स्थंडिलं मंडलाश्रितम्
Having meditated, he should daily worship the altar situated in the mandala.
आदित्यपूजाविधिवर्णनम् विष्णुरुवाच मण्डलस्थं सुरश्रेष्ठ विधिना येन भास्करम्
Description of the method of worshipping the Sun.
पूजयेद्विधिना येन भास्करं पद्मसंभवम्
He should worship the Sun, born from the lotus, according to the prescribed method.
साधु कृष्ण महाबाहो साधु पृष्टोऽस्मि सुव्रत
Well done, O Krishna, mighty-armed one, well asked, O virtuous one.
इषे त्वेति च मन्त्रेण उत्तमांगं सदार्चयेत्
With the mantra 'iṣe tveti', he should always worship the highest limb.
