अदितिः कश्यपसती आदित्यस्तेन चोच्यते
Aditi is the virtuous wife of Kashyapa; therefore, he is called Aditya.
तस्मादेतज्जगत्सर्वमादित्यात्संप्रवर्तते
From him, the Sun, this entire world proceeds.
रुद्रोपेंद्रौ तथेंद्रश्च ब्रह्मा दक्षोथ कश्यपः
Rudra, Upendra, Indra, Brahma, Daksha, and Kashyapa—
मुखाद्भूतो विरिंचिस्तु रुद्रो वक्षस्थलात्ततः
Virinchi (Brahma) arose from his mouth, Rudra then from his chest,
वामपादतलाद्दक्षो दक्षिणात्कश्यपस्तथा तेनासौ देव आदित्यः सर्वदेवेषु पूजितः
Daksha from the sole of his left foot, and likewise Kashyapa from the right; thus this god, Aditya, is worshipped among all the gods.
यदि तस्य प्रभावोयं पाराशर्य जगत्पतेः
If this is the power of the Lord of the world, O descendant of Parashara,
स किमर्थं त्रिसंध्यं तु राक्षसैः परिभूयते राहुणा गृह्यतेऽग्राह्यस्तत्किमर्थं द्विजोत्तम
Then why, at the three junctions of the day, is he insulted by demons, and seized by Rahu, though he is not to be seized? Why is this, O best of twice-born?
दक्षिणाग्निर्दहेत्क्रोधात्तमाक्रामति भास्करः
If the southern fire, out of anger, were to burn him, the Sun would surpass it.
त्रिसंध्यं तु त्रयो देवाः सान्निध्यं रविमंडले
At the three junctions of the day, three gods are present in the solar orb.
तमेकमेवमुद्दिश्य लोके धर्मः प्रवर्तते
Thus, with him alone as the focus, dharma is established in the world.
त्रिसन्ध्यं वसुधादेवैर्भास्करस्त्रिः प्रणम्यते
At the three junctions of the day, the Sun is bowed to three times by the deities of the earth.
अमृतार्थी विमानस्थो यावत्संस्रवतेऽमृतम्
He who desires immortality, seated in the celestial chariot, remains until the nectar flows.
न कश्चिद्धर्षितुं शक्त आदित्यो दहते ध्रुवम्
No one is able to challenge him; the Sun certainly burns the one who does.
नादित्येन विना रात्रिर्न दिनं न च तर्पणम्
Without the Sun, there is neither night nor day, nor any offering of satisfaction.
आदित्यः पाति वै सर्वमादित्यः सृजते सदा
The Sun truly protects all; the Sun always creates everything.
भीष्मव्याससंवादवर्णनम् तदहंश्रोतुमिच्छामि विप्र मां ब्रूहि तत्त्वतः
Description of the dialogue between Bhishma and Vyasa. Therefore, I wish to hear this, O sage; tell me the truth.
सकलं मण्डलं कृत्वा तद्दीक्षा समयं तथा
Having made the entire circle and likewise the time of initiation,
लब्ध्वा राधयते यस्तु भक्त्या तद्गतमानसः
He who, having obtained it, worships with devotion, his mind absorbed in that,
बलसिद्धिं महद्वीर्यं प्रतापं च स्वकायनम्
He attains strength, great heroism, power, and his own radiance.
आरोग्यमायुः कीर्तिं च यशः पुत्रांश्च मानद
He gains health, long life, fame, honor, sons, and respect.
धर्ममर्थं तथा कामं विद्यां मोक्षश्रियं तथा
He attains righteousness, wealth, desire, knowledge, liberation, and prosperity.
सौरेण विधिना तात पूजयित्वा दिवाकरम्
By the solar rite, O dear one, having worshipped the Sun,
येन स्नातोऽमलो याति नरः पूज यितुं रविम्
He who, having bathed and become pure, goes to worship Ravi,
शुचौ मनोरमे स्थाने संगृह्यास्त्रेण मृत्तिकाम्
In a clean and delightful place, taking earth with a mantra,
संधिसंघो हकारस्तु टरेफोफसमन्विते
The conjunction of sounds is the letter 'ha', accompanied by 'ṭa', 'ra', and 'pha'.
मलस्नानं ततः पश्चाच्छेषार्धेन तु कारयेत्
Afterwards, one should perform the bath for impurity with half of the remainder.
एकमस्त्रेण चालभ्य तथान्यं भास्करेण तु
Touching one with the mantra, and likewise another with the Bhaskara mantra,
जप्त्वास्त्रेण क्षिपेद्दिक्षु निर्विघ्नं तु जलं भवेत्
Having recited the mantra, one should throw it in the directions; the water will surely be unobstructed.
गु(मु)ण्डयित्वा ततः स्नायादिति तीर्थेषु मानवः
Then, having shaved his head, a man should bathe at those sacred waters.
स्नात्वा राजोपचारेण पुनराचम्य यत्नतः
After bathing, with royal honor, he should carefully perform ācamana again.
