वराटिकावर्णनम् येन येन तु दानेन तत्तत्फलमवाप्नुयात्
By whatever gift is made, that very result is obtained.
मालतीकुसुमैः पूजा भवेत्सान्निध्यकारिका
Worship performed with mālatī flowers is effective in bringing presence.
ऐश्वर्यमतुलं चैव यशश्च विपुलं तथा
One attains incomparable prosperity and abundant fame as well.
सौभाग्यं पुंडरीकैस्तु परमैश्वर्यमाप्नुयात्
By lotuses, one obtains good fortune and supreme wealth.
नानाविधैः सुकुसुमैः क्षिप्रं रोगात्प्रमुच्यते
With various excellent flowers, one is quickly freed from disease.
मंदारकुसुमैः पूजा सर्वकुष्ठनिवारिणी
Worship with mandāra flowers removes all leprosy.
अर्कस्रजा भवत्यर्कः सर्वदा वरदः प्रभुः
By a garland of arka flowers, the Sun always bestows boons, O Lord.
किंशुकैः पूजितो देवो न पीडयति भास्कर.
If the god is worshipped with kiṃśuka flowers, the Sun does not cause suffering.
स्वयं रूपवतीं दद्यात्पूजितश्चंपकस्रजा
When worshipped with a garland of campaka, he himself grants a beautiful woman.
अशोककुसुमैर्देवमर्चयेद्यो दिवाकरम्
Whoever worships the god Sūrya with aśoka flowers—
अप्रत्यग्नं(ग्रं) बहिर्यस्मात्तस्मात्तत्परिवर्जयेत्
One should avoid anything that is not directly facing or is outside.
भोगानेकादशेनेह प्राप्नुयान्नात्र संशयः
Here, one attains eleven kinds of enjoyments—of this there is no doubt.
प्रथमं पूजयेद्भक्त्या भूरूपं प्रणमेत्सदा
First, one should worship with devotion, always bowing to the form of earth.
महर्नमश्चतुर्थं तु पंचमं तु जनो नमः
On the fourth day, one should perform a great salutation; on the fifth, one should say 'salutations to the people.'
अष्टमं भूर्भुवश्चेति नवमं खगसत्तम
The eighth is 'bhūḥ', 'bhuvaḥ'; the ninth, O best among birds, is 'khaga'.
द्वादशं तु खषोल्केति ॐ नमः पूजयेत्खग
The twelfth is 'khaṣolka'; one should worship the bird with the mantra 'Om namah'.
घृतदीपप्रदानेन चक्षुष्माञ्जायते नरः मधूकानां तु तैलेन सौभाग्यं परमं लभेत्
By offering a lamp of ghee, a man attains clear vision; with oil from madhūka trees, he gains supreme good fortune.
संपूज्य विधिवद्देवं पुष्पधूपादिभिर्नरः
Having properly worshipped the deity with flowers, incense, and the like, the man...
पुष्पाणां प्रवरा जाती धूपानां चैव चन्दनम्
Among flowers, jasmine is best; among incenses, sandalwood is foremost.
एतैस्तुष्यति देवेशः सान्निध्यं चाधिगच्छति
With these, the Lord of gods is pleased and grants his presence.
एवं संपूज्य विधिवत्कृत्वा चापि प्रदक्षिणाम् आरुह्य सुविमानं स याति भानोः सलोकताम्
Thus, having properly worshipped and performed circumambulation, he boards a splendid aerial chariot and attains the same realm as the Sun.
पुनः संपूज्य देवेशं जपं कुर्याद्यथेष्टकम् एवमेकैकशः कार्याः सप्तम्यः सप्त सर्वदा
Again, having worshipped the Lord of gods, one should recite the desired mantra; in this way, each of the seven saptamīs should always be performed individually.
उदकप्रसृतिं पीत्वा क्रियते या तु सप्तमी
After drinking the water offering, the saptamī rite is performed.
या काचित्सप्तमी नोक्ता तां ते वक्ष्यामि मर्वदा
Whatever saptamī has not been mentioned, I will now tell you, O Marvada.
अनेन देयमूल्येन यल्लब्धं तत्प्रभक्षयेत
With the price given for this, one should consume whatever is obtained.
