दुष्पापं नास्ति तद्वीर सप्तम्यां यन्न दह्यते
There is no difficult sin, O hero, that is not burned on the saptamī.
कुष्ठानि यानि रौद्राणि दुश्छेद्यानि भिषग्जनैः
Those fierce and hard-to-cure leprosies, which are difficult for physicians—
सकलविबुधमान्यं स्वप्रकाशं जनानामभिमतफलदाने दीक्षितं तं सुपूज्यम्
He, who is honored by all the gods, self-luminous, and devoted to granting the desired fruits to people, is most worthy of worship.
नामपूजाविधिवर्णनम् मैत्रीं विदध्यात्सर्वत्र जीवहिंसां विवर्जयेत्
One should cultivate friendship everywhere and completely avoid harming living beings.
सप्तम्यां न स्पृशेत्तैलं नीलं वस्त्रं न धारयेत्
On the seventh day, one should not touch oil nor wear blue garments.
न रुद्यादश्रुपातेन न वा ध्यायेत्पिशाचकान् परस्यानिष्टकथनमतिवादं च वर्जयेत्
One should not weep with falling tears, nor meditate upon ghosts; one should avoid speaking ill of others and refrain from excessive speech.
न कंचित्ताडयेज्जंतुं न विशेत कदाचन
One should not strike any creature, nor ever enter (a forbidden place).
इत्येते समयाः प्रोक्ताः सौराणां गरुडाग्रज
These are the rules prescribed for the worshippers of the Sun, O elder brother of Garuda.
भोजकः खगशार्दूल यो लोभाद्द्रव्यमुत्सृजेत्
O best of birds, if a worshipper, out of greed, abandons the offering,
विशेषे चाल्पकशते कामयाने खगाधिप
especially for a small sum, desiring it, O lord of birds,
प्रायश्चित्ती भवेद्वीर न चार्हः पूजने रवेः
he must perform penance, O hero, and is not worthy of worshipping the Sun.
नान्यदेवप्रतिष्ठा तु कर्तव्या भोजकेन तु
No other deity's installation should be performed by the worshipper.
तस्मात्तु तां न कुर्याद्वै भोजकः खगसत्तम
Therefore, O best of birds, the worshipper should not do that.
कृत्वाधिवेशं देवानां ब्रह्मादीनां खगाधिप
Having established the seat for the gods, beginning with Brahma, O lord of birds,
कृत्वा तु कृच्छ्रं विधि वच्छुद्धेर्हेतुं खगाधिप
and having performed the expiatory rite according to rule for the sake of purity, O lord of birds,
न विज्ञातं प्रदातव्यं न म्लानं न च दूषितम्
One should not offer what is unknown, withered, or defiled.
देवमुल्लोचयेद्यस्तु स खलः पुष्पलोभतः
He who, out of greed for flowers, removes them from the deity is a wicked person.
ब्रह्महत्यामवाप्नोति भोजको लोभमोहितः
A worshipper, deluded by greed, who does so incurs the sin of killing a Brahmin.
हंत ते कीर्तयिष्यामि धूपदानविधिं परम्
Now, I shall declare to you the supreme method of offering incense.
सदा चंदनधूपेन सान्निध्यं कुरुते रविः
The Sun is always made present by sandalwood incense.
तथैवागुरुधूपेन वरं दद्या दभीप्सितम्
In the same way, one should offer the desired boon with aguru incense.
मंगलं धूपदानेन सदा यच्छति भानुमान्
By offering incense, the Sun always bestows auspiciousness.
सदा कुंकुमधूपेन सौभाग्यं लभते नरः
By always offering saffron incense, a man attains good fortune.
रसं सर्वरसोपेतं ददतोर्थागमो ध्रुवम्
By giving a liquid containing all flavors, one certainly gains wealth.
विलेपनं कुंकुमेन सर्वकामफलप्रदम्
Applying saffron paste grants the fulfillment of all desires.
चंदनस्य प्रदानेन श्रियमायुश्च विंदति
By offering sandalwood, one obtains prosperity and long life.
अपि रोगशतैर्ग्रस्तैः क्षिप्रारोग्यमवा प्नुयात्
Even those afflicted by hundreds of diseases may quickly attain health.
कस्तूरिकालेपनकैरैश्वर्यमतुलं लभेत्
By applying musk paste, one attains incomparable wealth.
चतुःसमेन गंधेन किं तुल्यं प्राप्नुयान्नरः
What can equal the result a man obtains by using fourfold fragrance?
स रोगान्मुच्यते क्षिप्रं पुरुषो भोगवान्भवेत् प्रलयं यांति ते सर्वे मृदा यद्युपलेपयेत्
He is quickly freed from diseases and becomes an enjoyer of pleasures; all those (diseases) are destroyed if he applies mud.
