नीयंते देहिनः सर्वे ये मूढाः पापकारिणः पुण्येन याति देवत्वं पापेन नरकं व्रजेत्
All embodied beings who are deluded and do evil deeds are led away; by merit one attains divinity, by sin one goes to hell.
यैर्मनागपि देवेशो मनसा पूजितो रविः ।। 1.192.
Even if the Lord of the gods, the Sun, is worshipped in the mind by someone, even slightly—
किं तु पापैर्महाघोरैः किञ्चित्कालं तवाज्ञया
But, due to very terrible sins, for a certain time, by your command—
तस्मात्प्रकुर्याद्भक्तिं वै भास्करे सततं नरः
Therefore, a person should always practice devotion to Bhāskara (the Sun).
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मे सप्ताश्वतिलकानूरुसंवादे द्विनवत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and ninety-second chapter in the dialogue of Saptāśvatilaka and Anūru on the duties relating to the Sun, in the Saptamī section of the Brāhma Parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
दन्तकाष्ठविधिवर्णनम् सप्ताश्वतिलक उवाच अयने विषुवे वारे संक्रांतौ ग्रहणे तथा
Description of the procedure for using a tooth-stick. Saptāśvatilaka said: On the solstice, equinox, weekday, during a transit, or an eclipse—
वैनतेय निबोध त्वं विधानं सप्तमीव्रते
O Vainateya, listen as I explain the procedure for the Saptamī vow.
सिद्धार्थकैस्तु प्रथमा द्वितीया चार्कसंपुटैः
The first and second days are with siddhārthaka seeds, and with cases made of arka wood.
सप्तमी चौदनैर्वीर सप्तमी परिकीर्तिता
The seventh day is declared to be with caudana (rice balls), O hero, and is called Saptamī.
तथा चानुक्रमे तासां लक्षणं कथया म्यहम्
And now, in order, I will describe the characteristics of these days.
आर्तस्य तु न नियमः पक्षमासकृतो भवेत्
For one who is afflicted, there is no restriction; it may be done once per fortnight or month.
पञ्चम्यां तत्र ये वृक्षाः कामितास्तान्वदाम्यहम्
On the fifth day, I will tell you which trees are desired.
बदर्या च बृहत्या च क्षिप्रं रोगात्प्रमुच्यते
By using badarī and bṛhatī, one is quickly freed from disease.
शत्रुक्षयः कदंबेषु अर्थलाभोतिमुक्तके
Destruction of enemies comes from kadaṃba trees; gain of wealth from timuktaka.
ज्ञातिप्रधानतां याति अश्वत्थो यच्छते यशः 1.193.
One attains preeminence among relatives; the aśvattha grants fame.
श्रियं प्राप्नोति विपुलां शिरीषस्य निवे शने
One obtains abundant prosperity by dwelling near the śirīṣa tree.
अभीप्सितार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं सुखासीनोथ वाग्यतः मंत्रेणानेन मतिमानश्नीयाद्दन्तधावनम्
For the accomplishment of desired aims, one who is intelligent, seated comfortably and with controlled speech, should brush the teeth with this mantra.
वरं दत्त्वाभिजानासि कामदं च वनस्पते
Having given a boon, you are recognized, O wish-fulfilling tree.
त्रीन्वारान्परिजप्यैवं भक्षयेद्दंतधावनम्
Having recited thus three times, one should chew the tooth-cleaning stick.
ऊर्ध्वे निपतिते सिद्धिस्तथा चाभि मुखे स्थिते
If it falls upwards, there is success; likewise, if it remains facing toward oneself.
पराङ्मुखं यदि भवेत्त्रीन्वारान्दंतधावनम्
If it turns away, one should chew the tooth-cleaning stick three more times.
ब्रह्मचारी तु तां रात्रिं स्वप्यान्मंगलसेवया
But a celibate student should sleep that night, observing auspicious conduct.
तस्यां रात्र्यां व्यतीतायां प्रात रुत्थाय वै खग
When that night has passed, rising in the morning, O bird,
उपविश्य शुचिर्भूत्वा प्रणम्य शिरसा रविम्
After sitting down, having become pure, and bowing with the head to the Sun,
ततोपराह्नसमये स्नात्वा मृद्गोमयांबुभिः 1.193.
Then, at midday, having bathed with clay, cow dung, and water,
पूजयित्वा विधिं भक्त्या देवदेवं दिवाकरम्
Having worshipped with devotion, according to rule, the god of gods, the Sun,
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मे दन्तकाष्ठविधिवर्णनंनाम त्रिनवत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Brahma Parvan, in the Saptami section, in the solar dharma, is the one hundred ninety-third chapter named 'Description of the Procedure for Tooth-Cleaning Sticks.'
सूर्यारुणसंवादे स्वप्नवर्णनम् स्वप्ने दृष्टे तु सप्तम्यां पुरुषो नियतव्रतः
In the dialogue between Surya and Aruna: Description of Dreams. If, on the seventh day, a person devoted to vows sees a dream—
समाप्य विधिवत्सर्वां जपहोमादिकां क्रियाम्
Having properly completed all acts such as recitation and sacrifice according to rule,
हन्त सुप्तो यदि नरः पश्येत्स्वप्ने दिवाकरम्
If, while asleep, a man sees the Sun in a dream,
