महापातकतुल्यानि पापान्युक्तानि यानि तु
These acts that have been mentioned are sinful and considered equal to great crimes.
द्विजायार्थं परिश्रुत्य न प्रयच्छति यो द्विज 1.190.
If a twice-born man, after having promised, does not give to another twice-born what is due to him—
गोभू हिरण्यवस्त्राणामपहारः प्रयत्नतः
The deliberate theft of cows, land, gold, or garments.
यः पीडामाश्रमस्थान आचरेदल्पिकामपि
Whoever causes even the slightest harm to those living in religious orders.
कूपधान्यपशुस्तेयमयाज्यानां च याजनम्
The theft of grain from a well, of cattle, and performing sacrifices for those unfit to receive them.
तीर्थ यात्रोपवासानां व्रते च जपकर्मणि
Improper conduct during pilgrimages, fasts, vows, or recitation of sacred texts.
अरक्षणं च नारीणां मद्यपस्त्रीनिषेवणम्
Failing to protect women, and indulging in wine or association with women of ill repute.
देवाग्निसाधुसाध्वीनां निन्दा गोब्राह्मणस्य च
Reviling the gods, fire, the virtuous, chaste women, cows, or brahmins.
उत्सन्नपितृदेवाश्च स्वकर्मत्यागिनश्च ये
Those whose ancestors and gods are neglected, and who abandon their own duties.
एवं कामे प्रवृत्ते तु वियोनौ पशुयोनिषु
Thus, when one is engaged in such desires, one is born among animals or in the lower worlds.
स्त्रीपुत्रमित्रसंप्रीते रारामोच्छेदकाश्च ये
Those who destroy the happiness of women, sons, or friends.
भेत्ता तडागवप्राणां संक्रमाणां रसस्य च 1.190.
One who destroys the life of ponds, embankments, or the flow of water.
इत्येतैस्तु नराः पापैरुपपातकिनः स्मृताः
Men who commit these sins are considered minor offenders.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मेषु सूर्यानूरुसंवादे नवत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and ninetieth chapter in the dialogue between Sūrya and Anūru, concerning the duties of the Sauras, in the seventh section of the Brāhma Parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
सप्ताश्वतिलकारुणसंवादम् दूषकाश्चैव वर्तंते नरा नरकगामिनः
The conversation between Saptāśva and Tilaka is recounted here; also, those who corrupt others are found among men destined for hell.
परिश्रमेण तप्यन्ते येऽपरे तस्य सूचकाः
Others, who are informers of such a person, suffer through exertion.
गोष्ठाग्निजलरम्यासु तरुच्छायानगेषु च
In cow-pens, by fires, near water, and in pleasant places under the shade of trees,
मद्यपानरता नित्यं गीतवाद्यरता नराः
Men who are always devoted to drinking liquor and engaged in singing and playing instruments,
पाखण्डमतसंयुक्ता वृथा संलाप कौतुकाः
Those joined with heretical beliefs, who indulge in idle talk and amusements,
कूटशासनकर्तारः कूटकर्मकृतो नराः
Those who make false judgments and perform deceitful actions,
निर्दयोतीवभृत्येषु पशूनां दमकश्च यः स्वामिमित्रगुरुद्रोही मायावी चपलः शठः
He who is cruel to servants, who punishes animals, who betrays his master, friends, or teacher, who is deceitful, fickle, and wicked,
ये भार्यापुत्रमित्राणि बालवृद्धकुशातुरान्
Those who harm wives, sons, friends, children, the elderly, or the sick,
यः स्वयं पक्वमश्नाति विप्रायान्नं न यच्छति
He who eats cooked food himself and does not give food to a Brahmin,
नियमं स्वयमादाय ये त्यजंत्यजितेंद्रियाः 1.191.
Those who, having taken a vow themselves, abandon it due to uncontrolled senses,
ये ताडयंति गां मूढास्त्रासयंति मुहुर्मुहुः
Those fools who beat cows and frighten them again and again,
पीडयंत्यतिभारेण अक्षयं वाहयंति च वाहयंति च गां वंध्यां ते पापिष्ठा नराधमाः
Those who oppress cows with excessive burdens or make them carry loads endlessly, or make barren cows carry loads—these are the most sinful and lowest of men.
अनर्थविकलं हीनं बालवृद्धकृशानुगम्
Those who harm the unfortunate, the disabled, the poor, children, the elderly, or the emaciated,
अजाविका माहिषिकाः सवित्रीवृषलीपतिः
Goat-herds, buffalo-keepers, the husband of a woman of low caste,
शिल्पिनः कारुका वेश्याः क्षेमकारनृपध्वजाः
Artisans, craftsmen, prostitutes, those who ensure safety, and the bearers of royal insignia,
घृत तैलानुपानानि मधुमांसरसासवम्
Ghee, oil, beverages, honey, meat, juice, and fermented liquor,
