स्वर्गं नयेत्सधीमांस्तु कुलानामेकविंशतिम्
He leads twenty-one lineages of the wise to heaven.
अंशेन भोजका वीर देवकार्ये नियोजिताः
By a portion, the enjoyers, heroic ones, are engaged in the work of the gods.
भुक्त्वा भोगांस्तु विपुलान्भोजको भोगसंमितः
Having enjoyed abundant pleasures, the enjoyer is equal to the pleasures.
पुष्पं पत्रं फलं तोयं यद्गतं भास्करार्चने
Whatever flower, leaf, fruit, or water is offered in the worship of Bhāskara,
यः पिबेद्भोजने धेनोरदत्ता भानवे पयः
Whoever drinks, during a meal, milk from a cow not offered to Bhānu,
एककालं पिबेत्क्षीरं धेनूनां भास्करस्य तु
One should drink, at one time, the milk of cows dedicated to Bhāskara.
प्रत्यूषे यद्भवेत्क्षीरं धेनूनां भास्करस्य तु
Whatever milk of cows is available at dawn, that is for Bhāskara.
यस्तु लोको भजेत्सर्व न देवाय निवेदयेत् तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि नरके पच्यते खग
But whoever consumes everything in the world and does not offer to the god—he is cooked in hell for thousands of years, O bird.
पूजितं पूज्यमानं वा यः कश्चिच्छृणुयाद्रविम् 1.187.
Whoever hears about the worshipped or being worshipped, or the glory, O best of birds,
भास्करं पृजितं दृष्ट्वा सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Seeing Bhāskara worshipped, one is freed from all sins.
पूज्यमानं रविं भक्त्या यः पश्येन्मानवः खग
Whoever, with devotion, beholds the Sun being worshipped, O bird, that person—
श्रुत्वानुमोदते यस्तु पूज्यमानं दिवाकरम्
And whoever, having heard of the Sun being worshipped, rejoices—
एकजन्मानुगं दानं भक्त्या यच्च निवेदितम् आभूतसंप्लव स्थायि प्रदानं जपजीविनाम्
Whatever gift is offered with devotion, following one’s birth, remains enduring until the dissolution of the world, for those who live by recitation.
अत्यल्पमपि यद्दत्तं वाचकाय खगाधिप
Even the smallest gift given to the reciter, O lord of birds—
न दानमल्पं बहुधा किंचिदस्ति विजानताम्
For those who understand, no gift is ever truly small or insignificant in any way.
पात्रे देशे च काले च विधिना श्रद्धया च यत्
Whatever is given, to a worthy recipient, at the right place and time, with proper method and faith—
तिलार्धमपि यद्वीर दीयते श्रद्धया द्विज
Even half a sesame seed, O hero, when given with faith to a twice-born, O Brahmin—
यत्स्नातं ज्ञानसलिलैः शीलभस्मप्रमार्जितम्
That which is bathed in the waters of knowledge, and cleansed by the ashes of good conduct—
जपो दमो यमः पुंसां त्राता संसाग्सागरात् 1.187.
Recitation, self-restraint, and discipline are the means by which people are saved from the ocean of worldly existence.
ज्ञानप्लवेन चोपेतं शास्त्रं पापमहार्णवात्
Scripture, endowed with the boat of knowledge, rescues from the great ocean of sin.
द्विजानां वेदविदुषां कटिसंभोगि यत्फलम्
The fruit attained by twice-born knowers of the Veda, who wear the sacred thread at their waist—
जीवो यस्यैत्य गृहे च भुङ्क्ते सत्कृतिसत्कृतः
The soul of one who, honored and well-treated, partakes in a house—
यज्ञाग्निहोमतीर्थेषु यत्फलं परिकीर्तितम्
The fruit declared for sacrifices, fire offerings, and holy places—
भोजिने शांतचित्ताय परिध्यानरताय च
To one who is fed, whose mind is peaceful, and who delights in wearing the sacred thread—
जपकाञ्छांतिसंयुक्तानादित्यार्पितचेतसः
Those engaged in recitation, contentment, and self-control, whose minds are dedicated to the Sun—
ध्यायमानो रवेः सूक्तं भोजयेत्सततं च यः
Whoever, meditating on the hymn to the Sun, continually offers food—
पितॄनुदिश्य यः श्राद्धे भोजयेद्भोजकं नरः
Whoever, at a śrāddha for the ancestors, feeds a worthy guest—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मे धेनुमाहात्म्यवर्णनं नाम सप्ताशीत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Brahma Parvan, in the Saptami section, in the teaching on the Sun, is the one hundred and eighty-seventh chapter, called 'The Greatness of the Cow.'
भोजकसत्कारवर्णनम् हुत्वाग्नौ प्रक्षिपेद्वीर बलिं दिक्षु समंततः
After offering oblations into the fire, O hero, he should place the bali offering in all directions equally.
सूर्याग्निगुरुविप्राणां सर्वपाकान्नमन्वहम्
Every day, he should offer all kinds of cooked food to the Sun, fire, teacher, and Brahmins.
