पण्डितोऽपि स मूर्खः स्याच्छक्तियुक्तोऽप्यशक्तिकः
Even a learned man may be a fool; one endowed with power may be powerless.
तस्मात्स पंडितः शक्तः स तपस्वी जितेन्द्रियः
Therefore, he is learned, powerful, an ascetic, and self-controlled—
यः प्रदद्यान्नृपः कृत्स्नां क्ष्मां धनं कांचनं तथा
Whoever, O king, gives the entire earth, wealth, and gold—
यः शृणोति रवेर्धर्मं न्यायतः स च वक्ति च
Who hears the righteousness of the sun, speaks it justly—
दत्तगोदोहसंभूतः षडक्षरविधानतः
Produced from the giving of a cow in charity, according to the six-syllabled formula—
सुरासुरैर्मथ्यमानात्क्षीरोदात्सागरात्पुरा
When the gods and demons churned the ocean of milk in ancient times—
नंदा सुभद्रा सुरभी सुमना शोभनावती
Nandā, Subhadrā, Surabhī, Sumanā, and Śobhanāvatī—
सर्वलोकोपकारार्थं देवानां तर्पणाय च
For the benefit of all worlds and for the satisfaction of the gods—
तासामंगानि पुण्यानि षड्रसाः खगसत्तम 1.187.
Their limbs are auspicious, possessing six tastes, O best of birds.
गोमयं रोचनं मूत्रं क्षीरं दधि घृतं गवाम्
Cow dung, yellow pigment, urine, milk, curd, and ghee—all from cows.
गोमयादुत्थितः श्रीमान्बिल्ववृक्षोऽर्कवल्लभः
The auspicious bilva tree, dear to the sun, arises from cow dung.
पंकान्युत्पलपद्मानि पुनर्जातानि गोमयात्
Lotuses and water-lilies, and mud, are again produced from cow dung.
गोमूत्राद्गुग्गुलुर्जातः सुगंधिः प्रियदर्शनः
From cow urine is produced guggulu, fragrant and pleasing to behold.
यद्बीजं जगतः किंचित्तज्ज्ञेयं क्षीरसंभवम्
Whatever seed exists in the world, know that it originates from milk.
घृतादमृतमुत्पन्नममराणामतिप्रियम्
Ghee is produced from nectar, and is exceedingly dear to the immortals.
तदंते चोष्णतोयेन कषायैश्च निरूपयेत्
At the end, one should apply with warm water and decoctions.
पूजयेद्बिल्वपत्रैश्च पद्मैर्नीलोत्पलैस्तथा
One should worship with bilva leaves, lotuses, and blue water-lilies as well.
पायसं दधिभक्तं च वज्रं च मधुना सह
Rice cooked in milk, curd-rice, and vajra, together with honey.
कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणं पश्चात्प्रणिपत्य क्षमापयेत् 1.187.
Having made circumambulation afterwards, one should bow down and seek forgiveness.
इह लोके परे चैव सर्वान्कामान्स गच्छति
In this world and the next, he attains all desires.
स्वर्गं नयेत्सधीमांस्तु कुलानामेकविंशतिम्
He leads twenty-one lineages of the wise to heaven.
अंशेन भोजका वीर देवकार्ये नियोजिताः
By a portion, the enjoyers, heroic ones, are engaged in the work of the gods.
भुक्त्वा भोगांस्तु विपुलान्भोजको भोगसंमितः
Having enjoyed abundant pleasures, the enjoyer is equal to the pleasures.
पुष्पं पत्रं फलं तोयं यद्गतं भास्करार्चने
Whatever flower, leaf, fruit, or water is offered in the worship of Bhāskara,
यः पिबेद्भोजने धेनोरदत्ता भानवे पयः
Whoever drinks, during a meal, milk from a cow not offered to Bhānu,
एककालं पिबेत्क्षीरं धेनूनां भास्करस्य तु
One should drink, at one time, the milk of cows dedicated to Bhāskara.
प्रत्यूषे यद्भवेत्क्षीरं धेनूनां भास्करस्य तु
Whatever milk of cows is available at dawn, that is for Bhāskara.
यस्तु लोको भजेत्सर्व न देवाय निवेदयेत् तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि नरके पच्यते खग
But whoever consumes everything in the world and does not offer to the god—he is cooked in hell for thousands of years, O bird.
पूजितं पूज्यमानं वा यः कश्चिच्छृणुयाद्रविम् 1.187.
Whoever hears about the worshipped or being worshipped, or the glory, O best of birds,
भास्करं पृजितं दृष्ट्वा सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Seeing Bhāskara worshipped, one is freed from all sins.
