तद्भक्तास्तद्गमनसः सूर्यपूजासमुत्सुकाः
Their devotees, those intent on following them, eager for the worship of the Sun.
यक्षिण्यो विविधाकारास्तथा यक्षकुमारकाः
Yakṣiṇīs of various forms, and likewise the Yakṣa youths.
शांतिं स्वस्त्ययनं क्षेमं बलं कल्याणमुत्तमम् 1.180.
Peace, auspiciousness, safety, strength, and supreme welfare.
पर्वताः सर्वतः सर्वे वृक्षाश्चैव महर्द्धिकाः
All the mountains on every side, and also the great and powerful trees.
सागराः सर्वतः सर्वे गृहारण्यानि कृत्स्नशः
All the oceans everywhere, and all the houses and forests entirely.
राक्षसाः सर्वतः सर्वे घोररूपा महाबलाः
All the Rākṣasas everywhere, of terrible form and great might.
पाताले राक्षसा ये तु नित्यं सूर्यार्चने रताः
Those Rākṣasas in the netherworld who are always devoted to the worship of the Sun.
प्रेताः प्रेतगणाः सर्वे ये प्रेताः सर्वतोमुखाः
All the pretas, all the hosts of pretas, those pretas facing every direction.
पाताले भूतले वापि ये प्रेताः कामरूपिणः
Whether in the netherworld or on earth, those pretas who assume forms at will.
एकचक्रो रथो यस्य यस्तु देवो वृषध्वजः
He whose chariot has a single wheel, and the god whose banner bears the bull.
ये पिशाचा महावीर्या वृद्धिमंतो महाबलाः
Those Piśācas of great power, possessing strength and great might.
पाताले भूतले ये च बहुरूपा मनोजवाः
Those who are many-formed and swift as the mind, whether in the netherworld or on earth.
यस्याहं सारथिर्वीर यस्य त्वं तुरगः सदा 1.180.
Of whom I am the charioteer, O hero, and of whom you are always the horse.
अपस्मारग्रहाः सर्वे सर्वे चापि ज्वरग्रहाः
All the apasmāra-spirits, and all the fever-causing spirits as well.
पाताले तु ग्रहा ये च ये ग्रहाः सर्वतो गताः
And the planets that are in the netherworld, and those planets that have gone in all directions,
हरो यस्य सदा वामे ललाटे कंजजः स्थितः
Hara is always on his left, and the lotus-born one is established on his forehead.
इति देवादयः सर्वे सूर्ययज्ञविधायिनः
Thus, all the gods and others, who perform the rites of the Sun-sacrifice,
जयः सूर्याय देवाय तमोहंत्रे विवस्वते
Victory to the god Sūrya, the dispeller of darkness, the radiant one!
ग्रहोत्तमाय देवाय जयः कल्याणकारिणे
Victory to the supreme planet among gods, victory to the bestower of auspiciousness!
जयः दीप्तिविधानाय जयः शांतिविधायिने
Victory to the giver of brilliance, victory to the bringer of peace!
जयार्क जयदीप्तीश सहस्रकिरणोज्ज्वल
Victory to the Sun, lord of radiance, shining with a thousand rays!
गायत्रीदेहरूपाय सावित्रीदयिताय च
To him whose form is the body of Gāyatrī, beloved of Sāvitrī,
सुमंतुरुवाच श्रेयसे वैनतेयस्य गरुडस्य महात्मनः ।। 1.180.
Sumantra said: This is for the welfare of Vainateya, the great-souled Garuḍa.
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु सुपर्णः पत्रवानभूत्
At that very moment, Suparṇa became one with wings.
संपूर्णावयवो राजन्यथापूर्वं तथाभवत्
His body became complete, O king, just as it was before.
एवमन्येऽपि राजेंद्र मानवा ये च रोगिणः तस्माद्यत्नेन कर्तव्यमग्निकार्यं विधानतः
In this way, O king, other men and those who are sick—therefore, the fire-rite must be performed with care, according to the rule.
करणीयं च राजेंद्र मानवैश्च प्ररोगिभिः
And, O king, it must be done by men and by those afflicted with disease.
ग्रहो पघाते दुर्भिक्ष उत्पातेषु च कृत्स्नशः
When there is planetary affliction, famine, or calamity in its entirety,
पूजयित्वा प्रसूक्तं तु ध्यात्वा वीरं प्रयत्नतः
Having worshipped with the prescribed hymn, meditating on the hero with effort,
चेतसा सुप्रसन्नेन सर्पिषा मधुना सह
With a mind very serene, together with ghee and honey,
