शाश्वतं शोभनं शुद्धं चित्रभानुं दिवस्पतिम्
I bow to the eternal, splendid, pure, radiant one, the lord of the day.
सर्वदुःखहरं देवं सर्वदुःखहरं रविम्
I bow to the god who removes all suffering, to Ravi who removes all suffering.
वरेण्यं वरदं नित्यं प्रणतोऽस्मि विभावसुम्
I bow to Vibhavasu, the ever-worthy, the bestower of boons.
देवेश्वरं देवरतं प्रणतोऽस्मि विभावसुम् स हि कीर्तिं परां प्राप्य पुनः सूर्यपुरं व्रजेत् ।। 1.174.
I bow to Vibhavasu, lord of the gods, devoted to the gods; for having attained supreme fame, he again goes to the city of the Sun.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे गरुडारुणसंवादे सूर्यस्तुतिर्नाम चतुःसप्तत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred seventy-fourth chapter, named 'Hymn to the Sun,' in the dialogue between Garuda and Aruna, in the Saptami section of the Brahma Parva of the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana.
सूर्याग्निकर्मवर्णनम् ग्रहोपघातैर्विविधैरर्दिता ये च मानवाः
Description of the rites for Sun and Fire: Those humans afflicted by various planetary obstacles,
अरिभिः पीडिता ये च विनायकहताश्च ये
Those tormented by enemies, and those struck down by Vinayaka,
आदित्याराधनं मुक्त्वा नान्यच्छ्रेयस्करं परम्
There is no greater or higher means to welfare than the worship of Aditya.
तस्मादाराधयेन्नित्यं सर्वरोगविनाशनम्
Therefore, one should always worship him, the destroyer of all diseases.
शापेन ब्रह्मवादिन्याः पश्यांगं द्विजसत्तम
O best of twice-born, by the curse of a Brahmin woman, see my condition.
एवं मत्तस्य मे तात किं कार्यमवशिष्यते
Thus, father, what action remains for me, who am in such a state?
तन्मे ब्रूहि खगश्रेष्ठ प्रपन्नस्य खगाधिप
Tell me this, O best of birds, O lord of birds, for one who has sought refuge.
सूर्याग्निकार्यं सततं शुद्धचित्तः समाचर
With a pure mind, always perform the rites for Sun and Fire.
महाशांतिकरं ख्यातं सर्वोपद्रवनाशनम्
It is renowned as greatly pacifying and the destroyer of all calamities.
न चाग्निकार्यं शक्नोमि कर्तुं विकलतां गतः ।।1.175.१
But I am unable to perform the fire rite, having become incapacitated.
तस्मान्मे कुरु शांत्यर्थमग्निकार्यं खगाधिप
Therefore, O lord of birds, perform the fire rite for my peace.
अकल्पस्त्वं न शक्नोषि महाव्याधिप्रपीडितः
You are not able, being afflicted by a great disease and unfit.
अहं करोमि ते पुत्र शांतये पावकार्चनम्
I shall perform the worship of Fire for your peace, my son.
सर्वपापहरं पुण्यं महाविप्रविनाशनम्
It removes all sins, is meritorious, and destroys great calamities for the learned.
अपमृत्युहरं वीर सर्वव्याधिहरं परम्
O hero, it removes untimely death and is supreme in dispelling all diseases.
तृप्तिदं सर्वदेवानां भास्करप्रियमुत्तम्
It satisfies all the gods and is most dear to the Sun.
देवालयस्य विधिवत्कुर्यादग्निप्रबोधनम्
One should properly awaken the fire in the temple of the gods.
भूर्भुवःस्वरिति स्वाहा प्रणवेन समन्वितम्
Uttering 'bhūḥ bhuvaḥ svaḥ' together with the sacred syllable Om and 'svāhā'.
धराधराय शान्ताय सहस्राक्षिशिराय च
To the peaceful one who supports the earth, and to the thousand-eyed, one should offer.
अधोमुखाय श्वेताय स्वाहा पूर्वाहुतिं सृजेत् । 1.175.
To the downward-facing, the white one, with 'svāhā', the first oblation should be made.
पद्मवर्णाय वेधाय कमण्डलुधराय च
To the lotus-hued, to the creator, and to the one holding a water-pot.
हेमवर्णाय देहाय ऐरावतगताय च
To the golden-bodied, and to the one who rides Airavata.
देवाधिपाय चेन्द्राय विहस्ताय शुभाय च
To the lord of the gods, to Indra, to the one with beautiful hands.
दीप्ताय व्यक्तदेहाय ज्वालामालाकुलाय च
To the shining one, with a manifest body, adorned with a garland of flames.
यमाय धर्मराजाय दक्षिणाशामुखाय च
To Yama, to the king of righteousness, and to the one facing the southern direction.
