न हीदृक्स्वर्गयानाय यथा लोके प्रियं वचः
There is nothing like kind words in this world for attaining heaven.
अमृतस्यंदिनी वाचं चंदनस्पर्शशीतलाम्
Words that are nectar-like, and cool as the touch of sandalwood.
अलं दानेन राजेंद्र पूजयाध्यापनेन वा 1.171.
O king, charity, worship, or teaching alone are not sufficient.
पूजाभिभाषणं दृष्टिः प्रत्येकं स्वर्गहेतवः
Worship, respectful speech, and a favorable gaze—each of these is a cause for attaining heaven.
गमने तस्य वक्तव्यं पंथानः संतु ते शिवाः
When someone is departing, one should say: 'May your paths be auspicious.'
आशीर्वादमिदं वाक्यं सर्वकालेषु सर्वदा
This statement of blessing is to be spoken always, at all times.
शिवं भवतु ते नित्यं तं ब्रूयात्सर्वकर्मसु
'May you always have well-being'—this should be said in every action.
अशेषपाप निर्मुक्तः सूर्यलोके महीयते सूर्ये भक्तिसमा नित्यं भक्ते भक्तिरनुष्ठिता
Freed from all sins, one is honored in the world of the Sun; constant devotion to the Sun is established through devotion to the devotee.
आक्रुष्टे ताडिते वापि यो नाक्रोशेन्न ताडयेत्
He who, when insulted or struck, does not insult or strike in return—
सर्वेषामेव तीर्थानां क्षांतिः परमपूजिता
For all the sacred places, forgiveness is held in the highest honor.
ज्ञानयोगतपो यस्य यज्ञदानानि सत्क्रिया
Whose knowledge, yoga, austerity, sacrifices, charity, and noble deeds—
मर्मास्थिप्राणहृदयं निर्दहेदप्रियंवचः
Harsh words burn the vital points, bones, life, and heart.
क्षमा दानं त्विषः सत्यं क्षमाहिंसार्कसंभवाः 1.171.
Forgiveness, charity, brilliance, and truth—all arise from forgiveness and non-violence, like the sun.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मे भोजकभोजनानु ष्ठानवर्णनं नामैकसप्तत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Brahma Parvan, in the Seventh Kalpa, in the section on Solar Dharma, this is the one hundred seventy-first chapter, entitled 'Description of the Practice of Feeding the Bhojakas.'
सौरधर्मवर्णनम् सौरप्रियं सदा सौरं पवित्रं पापनाशनम्
Description of Solar Dharma: That which is always dear to the Sun, that which is solar, is pure and destroys sin.
क्वचिद्गच्छन्यदा पश्येत्सूर्यार्चासंप्रपूजनम्
Whenever one goes somewhere and sees the worship of the Sun being performed—
स्नाननैवेद्यवस्त्रैश्च नानालंकारभूषणैः
With bathing, offerings of food, garments, and various ornaments—
दृष्ट्वायतनमाक्रम्य नमस्कृत्य रविं व्रजेत्
Having seen the temple, one should enter, bow, and proceed to the Sun.
उपश्रुत्यावनिं गत्वा भोजकं पूजयेद्बुधः मगानां भोजनं भक्त्या शक्त्या दानं प्रकल्पयेत्
Having heard, one should go to the ground and worship the Bhojaka; with devotion and ability, one should offer food to the Magas and give gifts as one is able.
दशपूर्वान्दश परानात्मना सह भारत
Together with oneself, one should honor ten ancestors before and ten after, O descendant of Bharata.
दैवपर्वोत्सवे श्राद्धे पुण्येषु दिवसेषु च
On occasions of divine festivals, ancestral rites, and auspicious days,
पितरः सर्वदेवानां सूर्यमाश्रित्य संस्थिताः
the ancestors of all the gods are established, taking refuge in the Sun.
यदा च श्रद्धया युक्तं प्रसक्तं रविपूजनम्
And whenever worship of the Sun is performed with faith and devotion,
भोजकस्य महाराज दिवसेनापि यत्फलम् 1.172.
O great king, the fruit gained by the one who offers food is equal to that obtained in the realm of the gods.
यः पश्यति प्रसन्नात्मा यो न द्वेष्टि न कांक्षति
He who beholds with a serene mind, who neither hates nor desires,
ज्ञानविज्ञानसम्पन्नः सूर्यभक्त्या समन्वितः
who is endowed with knowledge and wisdom, and is united with devotion to the Sun,
सूर्यधर्माद्भवेज्ज्ञानं ज्ञानाद्वैराग्यसंभवः
From the dharma of the Sun arises knowledge, and from knowledge, detachment is born.
सूर्ययोगाच्च सर्वज्ञः परिपूर्णः सुनिर्वृतः
And through union with the Sun, one becomes all-knowing, complete, and perfectly content.
सर्वेषामेव भूतानामुत्तमः पुरुषः स्मृतः
Among all beings, the supreme person is regarded as the highest.
ग्रन्थिभ्यो वेदविद्वांसस्तेभ्यस्त त्त्वार्थचिंतकाः
Among those who know the Vedas from the texts, those who contemplate the essence of truth are superior.
