Having fashioned the Sun from rice flour, O king,
At night, along the royal road, with the sounds of conches and kettle-drums,
There, with night-long worships, adorned with rows of lamps,
At dawn, having performed the bathing with honey, milk, and ghee,
One should offer the chariot, equipped with attendants, to Bhaskara,
Always endowed with mantra and dharma, it is the foremost of all vows,
Whatever merit is in all vows, whatever fruit is in all sacrifices,
With aerial cars shining like ten thousand suns, fulfilling every desire,
Having enjoyed abundant pleasures in all the worlds, one after another,
Endowed with the five offerings, prepared with the six mild ingredients,
Accompanied by the goddess Saṃjñā, one should present rich offerings made of flour.
Having worshipped with fragrances, flowers, and the like, with garments, ornaments, and fans,
The number of woolen and cotton garments should be as many as prescribed.
Having enjoyed all pleasures without remainder in all the worlds, including those of the gods and others,
Together with ten cows and a bull—these are known as the eleven bulls.
With a self like the twelve suns, endowed with the qualities beginning with aṇimā,
Listen to the result attained, together with the twenty-one generations of one's lineage,
Resembling a multitude of precious gems, endowed with all desired enjoyments,
Resembling the twelve suns, like another sun,
Having enjoyed abundant pleasures, at the dissolution of all embodied beings,
He becomes all-knowing, supreme among the gods, pure, established in his own self.
Whoever gives a cow with two mouths, of the Saurabhi breed, to the sun—both feet, half the head, along with mountains, forests, and groves—
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Brāhma Parvan, in the Seventh Kalpa, is the chapter called 'Description of Cow Donation,' being the one hundred and seventieth chapter.
Now, what is the result, O Brahman, of observing the Magadha rite?
That very Magadha rite is declared, which removes all sin and fear.
For all castes indeed, the observance of the Magadha rite—
Whether a Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, woman, Shudra, or Magian ascetic—
At the three junctions of the day, one should worship the Sun and perform fire rites as able.
One should worship the Sun with faith, either at all three junctions or at least once daily.
This is to be known as the highest dharma; the rest is merely human custom.
