वर्षमेकं च देवे वै नैरंतर्येण यो नयेत्
Whoever observes this for one year continuously for the deity,
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः सर्वकामसमन्वितः 1.164.
Becomes freed from all sins and endowed with all desires fulfilled.
पुण्येष्वहःसु सर्वेषु विषुवद्ग्रहणादिषु
On all auspicious days, at equinoxes, eclipses, and similar occasions,
कृष्णषष्ठीव्रतं पुण्यं सर्वपापभयापहम्
The sacred vow of Kṛṣṇa Ṣaṣṭhī removes all sins and fears.
कृत्वेदं पुरुषो भक्त्या भास्करस्य महात्मनः
Having performed this with devotion to the great-souled Bhāskara,
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मेपर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सूर्यषष्ठीव्रतवर्णनं नाम चतुःषष्ट्युत्तरशततमोध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Brāhma Parvan, in the Saptamī Kalpa, is the one hundred and sixty-fourth chapter named 'Description of the Sūrya Ṣaṣṭhī Vow.'
उभयसप्तमीवर्णनम् धर्मकामार्थमोक्षाणां प्रतिपादनमुत्तमम्
Description of both Saptamīs: The supreme instruction for the attainment of dharma, kāma, artha, and mokṣa.
पौषमासे तु संप्राप्ते यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम्
When the month of Pauṣa arrives, whoever observes night-time eating,
पक्षयोः सप्तमीं यत्नादुपवासेन यापयेत्
Should, with effort, observe a fast on the Saptamī of both fortnights.
अधःशायी भवेन्नित्यं सर्वभोगविव र्जितः
One should always sleep on the ground, renouncing all enjoyments.
कृत्वा स्नानं महापूजां सूर्यदेवस्य भास्त
After bathing, one should perform the great worship of the shining Sun God.
भोजयेच्च द्विजानष्टौ भगार्चा शुभलक्षणाम्
And one should feed eight brāhmaṇas who possess auspicious marks and worship Bhaga.
य एवं कुरुते पुण्यं सूर्यस्य व्रतमुत्तमम्
Whoever performs this virtuous and supreme vow of the Sun,
सूर्यकोटिप्रतीकाशैर्विमानैः सार्वकामिकैः
with celestial vehicles radiant like millions of Suns, fulfilling all desires,
संगीतनृत्यवाद्याद्यैर्गंधर्वगणशोभितैः
adorned by groups of Gandharvas with music, dance, and instruments,
सहस्रकिरणाभासः सौरैः सूर्यसमन्वितैः 1.165.
shining with the brilliance of a thousand rays, accompanied by solar beings and the Sun himself,
रोमसंख्या तु या तस्यास्तत्प्रसूतिः कुलेषु च
the number of hairs on his body determines the extent of his progeny in his lineage,
त्रिःसप्तकुलजैः सार्धं भोगान्भुक्त्वा यथेप्सितान्
together with twenty-one generations of his family, he enjoys pleasures as he desires,
योगाद्दुःखांतमाप्नोति ज्ञानयोगं प्रवर्तते
through yoga, he attains the end of suffering and enters the path of knowledge and yoga,
इत्येवं ते समाख्यातं भवार्णवव्यपोहनम्
Thus, I have explained to you the means to cross the ocean of worldly existence,
माघमासे तु संप्राप्ते यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम्
When the month of Māgha arrives, whoever observes eating only at night,
सोपवासश्च सप्तम्यां भवेदुभयपक्षयोः गां च दयाद्दिनेशाय तरुणीं नीलसंनिभाम्
and fasts on the seventh day in both lunar fortnights, and out of compassion gives a young cow, dark as a cloud, to the lord of the day,
इन्द्रनीलप्रतीकाशैर्विमानैः शिखिसंयुतैः
with celestial vehicles resembling sapphires, adorned with peacocks,
राजेंद्र फाल्गुने मासि यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम्
O king, in the month of Phālguna, whoever observes eating only at night,
षष्ठ्यां वाप्यथ सप्तम्यामुपवासपरो नरः
or on the sixth or seventh day, the man who is devoted to fasting,
वल्मीकजादिमृद्भिश्च गोमूत्रशकृदादिभिः 1.165.
using earth from anthills and similar places, as well as cow urine and dung,
सौरभेयीं ततो दद्याद्रक्ताभां रक्तमालिने गत्वादित्यपुरं रम्यं मोदते शाश्वतीः समाः
then should give a cow of the Saurabhi breed, red-hued and garlanded in red; reaching the delightful city of the Sun, he enjoys eternal happiness,
मासि चैत्रे तु संप्राप्ते यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम् भानवे पाटलां दद्याद्वैष्णवीं तरुणीं नृप
When the month of Caitra arrives, whoever observes eating only at night, O king, should give to the Sun a young cow, rosy-colored and Vaishnavi,
पुष्पराग प्रभैर्यानैर्नानाहंसादियायिभिः
with vehicles shining like topaz, drawn by various swans and other birds,
वैशाखे वीरमासे तु यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम्
In the month of Vaiśākha, the heroic month, whoever observes eating only at night,
