योब्दमेकं तु कुर्वीत नक्तं भगदिने नरः अयाचितात्परं नक्तं तस्मन्नाक्तेन वर्तयेत्
If a man observes one year of fasting on the day of Bhaga, without asking for anything, he should not live by fasting beyond that.
देवैस्तु भुक्तं मध्याह्ने पूर्वाह्णे ऋषिभिस्तथा 1.164.
The gods partake at midday, and the sages likewise in the forenoon.
सर्वा वेला ह्यतिक्रम्य सौराणां भोजनं परम्
Having surpassed all times, the meal of the solar deities is supreme.
भगलोकमवाप्नोति सुमनाः सुमनोव्रतः
With a cheerful mind and a vow of cheerfulness, one attains the world of Bhaga.
हविष्यभोजनं स्नानमाहारस्य च लाघवम्
Eating sacrificial food, bathing, and lightness of diet.
कृष्णषष्ठ्यां प्रयत्नेन कृत्वा नक्तं विधानतः
On Krishna Shashti, by effort, one should properly observe fasting at night.
विधिवत्प्राश्य गोमूत्रमनाहारो निशि स्वपेत्
Having properly consumed cow urine, one should sleep at night without food.
पुष्येप्येवं सहस्रांशुं भानुमंतमुशंति च
In Pushya, they worship the thousand-rayed sun and Bhanu.
माघे दिवाकरं नाम कृष्णषष्ठ्यां नरोत्तम
In Magha, O best of men, the sun named Divakara is worshipped on Krishna Shashti.
मार्तंडं फाल्गुने मासि पूजयित्वा गवां पयः
In the month of Phalguna, having worshipped Martanda, one should offer cow's milk.
चैत्रे मासि विवस्वंतं पूजयित्वा सुभक्तिमान्
In the month of Chaitra, having worshipped Vivasvant, the devoted one.
वैशाखे चण्डकिरणं पूजयेच्च पयोव्रतः 1.164.
In Vaishakha, one should worship Chanda-kirana, and observe the vow with milk.
ज्येष्ठे दिवस्पतिं पूज्य गवां शृंगोदकं पिबेत्
In Jyeshtha, having worshipped Divaspati, one should drink water from the horns of cows.
आषाढे त्वर्कनामानमिष्ट्वा प्राश्य च गोमयम्
In Ashadha, having worshipped the one named Arka, one should partake of cow dung.
श्रावणेऽर्यमनामानं पूजयित्वा पयः पिबेत्
In the month of Śrāvaṇa, after worshipping Aryaman by name, one should drink milk.
मासि भाद्रपदे षष्ठ्यां भास्करं नाम पूजयेत्
In the month of Bhādrapada, on the sixth day, one should worship the sun called Bhāskara.
मासि चाश्वयुजे षष्ठ्यां भगाख्यं नाम पूजयेत्
In the month of Āśvayuja, on the sixth day, one should worship the deity known as Bhaga.
मासे तु कार्तिके षष्ठ्यां शक्राख्यं नाम पूजयेत्
In the month of Kārtika, on the sixth day, one should worship the one called Śakra.
वर्षांते भोजयेद्विप्रान्सूर्यभक्तिपरायणान्
At the end of the rainy season, one should feed brāhmaṇas who are devoted to the worship of the sun.
शक्त्या हिरण्यवासांसि भक्त्या तेभ्यो निवेदयेत्
According to one's ability, with devotion, one should offer them garments of gold.
वर्षमेकं च देवे वै नैरंतर्येण यो नयेत्
Whoever observes this for one year continuously for the deity,
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः सर्वकामसमन्वितः 1.164.
Becomes freed from all sins and endowed with all desires fulfilled.
पुण्येष्वहःसु सर्वेषु विषुवद्ग्रहणादिषु
On all auspicious days, at equinoxes, eclipses, and similar occasions,
कृष्णषष्ठीव्रतं पुण्यं सर्वपापभयापहम्
The sacred vow of Kṛṣṇa Ṣaṣṭhī removes all sins and fears.
कृत्वेदं पुरुषो भक्त्या भास्करस्य महात्मनः
Having performed this with devotion to the great-souled Bhāskara,
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मेपर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सूर्यषष्ठीव्रतवर्णनं नाम चतुःषष्ट्युत्तरशततमोध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Brāhma Parvan, in the Saptamī Kalpa, is the one hundred and sixty-fourth chapter named 'Description of the Sūrya Ṣaṣṭhī Vow.'
उभयसप्तमीवर्णनम् धर्मकामार्थमोक्षाणां प्रतिपादनमुत्तमम्
Description of both Saptamīs: The supreme instruction for the attainment of dharma, kāma, artha, and mokṣa.
पौषमासे तु संप्राप्ते यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम्
When the month of Pauṣa arrives, whoever observes night-time eating,
पक्षयोः सप्तमीं यत्नादुपवासेन यापयेत्
Should, with effort, observe a fast on the Saptamī of both fortnights.
अधःशायी भवेन्नित्यं सर्वभोगविव र्जितः
One should always sleep on the ground, renouncing all enjoyments.
