यावद्धि पत्रं कुसुमं बीजं सूतफलानि च
As long as there are leaves, flowers, seeds, and fruits—
सघृतं गुग्गुलं दद्याद्राजन्वा कंदुरुं तथा 1.164.
He should offer ghee, guggulu, and also kunduru resin, O king.
कृष्णागुरुं च कर्पूरधूपं दद्याद्दिवाकरे
He should offer black agaru and camphor incense to the sun.
कल्पकोटिसहस्राणि कल्पकोटिशतानि च
For thousands of millions of kalpas, and hundreds of millions of kalpas—
गुग्गुलुं घृतसंयु्क्तं यक्षो गृह्णाति शब्दकृत्
A yaksha accepts guggulu mixed with ghee, producing sound.
कृष्णांशौ कृष्ण सप्तम्यां यः साज्यं गुग्गुलुं दहेत्
Whoever burns guggulu with ghee on the seventh day of the dark fortnight—
देवदारुं नमेरुं च श्रीवासं कुंदुरुं तथा
He should offer devadaru, nameru, shrivasa, and kunduru as well.
एवं सौगधिकं रूपं षट्सहस्रगुणोत्तरम्
Thus, the fragrant form becomes six thousand times greater.
अनंतफलदं देवं सदा कुंदुरुकामुकम्
The god, always fond of kunduru, bestows endless fruit.
दग्ध्वार्धमविमिश्रस्य सूर्यतुल्यः प्रजायते
Having burned half of the unmixed (incense), one becomes like the sun.
कृष्णागुरुभवं धूपं तुषाग्निरिव कांचनम्
Incense made from black agaru shines like gold in a smokeless fire.
कपाटद्वारकुड्यादितिर्यगूर्ध्वं सवेदिकम् 1.164.
On doors, gates, walls, and all around, both across and above, with a platform.
तस्य पुण्यं यथावत्तु युवयोर्वच्मि कृत्स्नशः
I shall tell you both, in full, the merit that belongs to him.
कल्पकोटिशतं दिव्यं तेजसा वह्निसन्निभः
For a hundred million aeons, he shines with divine brilliance, resembling fire.
तस्यांते धर्मशेषेण त्रैलोक्या धिपतिर्भवेत्
At the end of that, by the remaining merit, he becomes the lord of the three worlds.
स सर्वशर्मसंयुक्तः सूर्यतुल्यपराक्रमः
Endowed with all happiness, possessing valor equal to the sun,
तद्वच्छुक्लैश्च संवीतं पट्टसूत्रैर्विनिर्मितम्
He is adorned with white garments, fashioned with silken threads.
वासांसि सुविचित्राणि सूरलोके महीयते
Wearing splendidly decorated clothes, he is honored in the world of the gods.
भास्करस्योत्तमांगेषु तस्य पुण्यं ब्रवीम्यहम्
I shall declare the merit of him who is placed upon the highest part of the Sun.
एवं वित्तानुसारेण सर्वं ज्ञेयं समासतः
Thus, according to one's means, everything should be understood in summary.
अर्कपत्रपुटं चूर्णं मधुपर्णसमन्वितम्
A vessel made of arka leaves, filled with powder and honey,
शालितंडुलप्रस्थस्य कुर्यादन्नं सुसंस्कतम् 1.164.
One should prepare well-cooked food from a prastha of rice grains.
संयावं कृशरं पूपं पायसं यावकं तथा
Also, saṃyāva, kṛśara, pūpa, pāyasa, and yāvaka,
यावंतस्तण्डुलास्तस्मिन्नैवेद्ये परिसंख्यया
As many rice grains as there are, so should be the offerings in number.
गुडखंडकृतानां च भक्ष्याणां विनिवेदने
And in the offering, sweets made from pieces of jaggery,
रसाल खाद्यकाद्यानां भक्ष्याणां फलमिष्यते
Among the foods to be eaten, fruits are desired, such as mango and others.
यथाकालोपलब्धानि भक्ष्याणि विविधानि च
Various foods, as are available at the proper time,
प्रज्वाल्य घृतदीपं तु भास्करस्यालये शुभम्
One should light a ghee lamp, auspicious, in the abode of the Sun.
यः कुर्यात्कार्तिके मासि शोभनां दीपमालिकाम्
Whoever, in the month of Kārtika, arranges a beautiful row of lamps,
भास्करायुतसंकाशस्तेजसा भासयन्दिशः
He, shining with radiance equal to ten thousand suns, illuminates the directions.
