आत्मारामभवैश्चैव पुष्पैः संपूजयेद्रविम्
And also with flowers that arise naturally, one should worship the Sun.
तपःशीलगुणोपेत इति हासविदि द्विजे
Endowed with austerity, good conduct, and virtue—thus is the rule, O twice-born.
करवीरस्य कुसुममर्काय विनिवेदयेत् एवं पुष्पविशेषेण फलं तदधिकं भवेत्
One should offer the flower of the oleander to the Sun; by such special flowers, the result becomes greater.
सदा पुष्पसहस्रेभ्यः करवीरं विशिष्यते
Among thousands of flowers, the oleander is always superior.
पद्मपुष्पसहस्रेभ्यो बकपुष्पं विशिष्यते 1.163.
Among thousands of lotus flowers, the bakula flower is superior.
कुशपुष्पसहस्रेभ्यः शमीपत्रं विशिष्यते सर्वासां पुष्पजातीनां प्रवरं नीलमुत्पलम्
Among thousands of kusa flowers, the leaf of the sami tree is superior; among all kinds of flowers, the blue lotus is the best.
रक्तोत्पलसहस्रेण नीलोत्पलशतेन च
A thousand red lotuses are equaled by a hundred blue lotuses.
कल्पकोटिसहस्राणि कल्पकोटिशतानि च
The merit of hundreds of thousands of kalpa trees, and even hundreds of millions of kalpa trees,
शेषाणां पुष्पजातीनां यत्फलं परिकीर्तितम्
Whatever result is declared for the other kinds of flowers,
शमीपुष्पं बृहत्याश्च कुसुमं तुल्यमुच्यते
The flower of the sami tree is said to be equal to the flower of brihati.
श्वेतमंदारकुसुमं सितपुष्पं च तत्समम्
The white mandara flower and any white flower are considered equal to that.
गंधवंत्यपवित्राणि कुसुमानि विवर्जयेत्
One should avoid flowers that are without fragrance or impure.
सात्त्विकं तद्धि कुसुममपवित्रं च तामसम्
That flower which is sattvic is pure, and that which is impure is tamasic.
दिवाशेषाणि पुष्पाणि त्यजेदुपहतानि च
One should discard flowers that have withered during the day or have been defiled.
फलं क्वथितविद्धं च यत्नात्पक्वमपि त्यजेत् 1.163.
One should carefully avoid fruit that is boiled or pierced, even if it is ripe.
पत्राणामप्यलाभे तु फलान्यपि निवेदयेत्
But if leaves are not available, one may also offer fruits.
ओषधीनामभावे तु भक्त्या भवति पूजितः
In the absence of sacred herbs, he is worshipped with devotion.
यः सुगन्धैर्मुक्तपुष्पैः सम्यग्भानुं प्रपूजयेत्
Whoever properly worships the Sun with fragrant, fresh flowers,
करवीरैर्महाराज संयतो भानुमर्चयेत्
O great king, one who is disciplined should worship the Sun with oleander flowers.
अगस्त्यकुसुमैर्भक्त्या यः सकृद्भानुमर्चयेत्
Whoever worships the Sun even once with devotion using Agastya flowers,
मल्लिकोत्पलपद्मैश्च जातीपुन्नागचंपकैः
With jasmine, blue lotus, red lotus, jati, punnaga, and champaka flowers,
करवीरार्ककह्लारशमीतगरकेशरैः
With oleander, arka, kahlaara, shami, tagara, and kesara flowers,
पुष्पैरेतैर्यथालाभं यो नरः पूजयेद्रविम्
Whoever worships the Sun with these flowers, as available,
सूर्यकोटिप्रतीकाशैर्विमानैः सर्वकामिभिः
Will attain celestial vehicles shining like ten million suns, fulfilling all desires.
तंत्रीमधुरवाद्यैश्च स्वच्छंदगमनैर्नृप 1.163.
With sweet music of stringed instruments and the freedom to go as he wishes, O king,
दोधूयमानश्चमरैः स्तूयमानः सुरासुरैः
Fanned by yak-tail whisks, praised by gods and asuras,
यैस्तैश्च वापिकुसुमैर्जलजैः स्थलजैर्नृप
With those same flowers, whether from water or land, O king,
सूर्यस्योपरि यः कुर्याच्छोभनं पुष्पमंडलम्
Whoever creates a beautiful circle of flowers upon the Sun,
अत्याश्चर्यमहायानैर्दिव्यपुष्पोपशोभितः
Adorned with wondrous, divine flowers and marvelous vehicles,
अनेकरागविन्यस्तैः सुगन्धैः कुसुमैर्गृहम्
With a house adorned by many-colored, fragrant flowers,
