सकृदाढकेन पयसा यो भानुं स्नाप येन्नरः
If a man bathes the Sun even once with a measure of milk,
स्नाप्य दध्ना सकृद्भानुं स त्रिलोके महीयते
He who bathes the Sun even once with curd is honored in all three worlds.
उद्धृत्य शालिपिष्टेन वायुलोकेषु पूज्यते स गोपतिपुरं गच्छेत्सर्वकामसमन्वितः
Having offered rice flour, he is worshipped in the realms of air; that person goes to the city of the lord of cows, endowed with all desires fulfilled.
फलोदकेन यो भानुं सकृत्स्नापयते नरः
Whoever bathes the Sun even once with fruit-water, O man—
श्रीखंडवारिणा स्नाप्य सकृद्भानुं नरा धिप 1.163.
Having bathed the Sun even once with sandalwood water, O ruler of men—
वस्त्रपूतेन तोयेन यद्यर्कं स्नापयेत्सकृत्
If one bathes the Sun even once with water purified by cloth—
आपो हिष्ठेति जप्येन गंगातोयेन भारत
By reciting 'āpo hiṣṭha' and using Ganges water, O descendant of Bharata—
कर्पूरागुरुतोयेन योऽर्कं स्नापयते सकृत् स कुलानेकविंशतिमुत्तार्य रविमाव्रजेत्
Whoever bathes the Sun even once with water scented by camphor and agarwood, having lifted up twenty-one generations of his lineage, attains the Sun.
पितृनुद्दिश्य यो भानुं स्नापयेच्छीतवारिणा
Whoever bathes the Sun with cool water, dedicating it to the ancestors—
भानुं शीतांबुना स्नाप्य धारोष्णपयसा सह
Bathing the Sun with cool water together with a stream of warm milk—
एतत्स्नानत्रयं कृत्वा पूजयित्वा तु भारत
Having performed these three baths and worshipped, O descendant of Bharata—
मृत्कुम्भात्ताम्रकुम्भैस्तु स्नानं शतगुणं मतम् स्पर्शनादर्चनं श्रेष्ठं घृतस्नानमतः परम्
Bathing from earthen pots is considered a hundred times greater with copper pots; touch and worship are best, and bathing with ghee is superior thereafter.
इहामुत्र कृतं पापं घृतस्नानेन नश्यति
Sin committed here or in the next world is destroyed by bathing with ghee.
दशापराधांस्तोयेन क्षीरेण तु शतं क्षमेत्
With water, ten offenses are forgiven; with milk, a hundred.
नैरन्तर्येण यो मासं घृतस्नानं समाचरेत् 1.163.
Whoever performs a ghee bath continuously for a month—
स्नानं पलशतं ज्ञेयमभ्यंगः पञ्चविंशतिः
Bathing is to be understood as a hundred palas; anointing is twenty-five.
घृताभ्यंगं घृतस्नान भानोः कुर्य्याद्द्विजोत्तम
One should perform anointing with ghee and bathing with ghee for the Sun, O best of twice-born.
दशधेनुसहस्राणि यद्दत्त्वा लभते फलम्
The fruit obtained by giving ten thousand cows is gained.
अर्घ्यं पुष्पफलोपेतं यस्त्वर्काय निवेदयेत्
Whoever offers arghya to the Sun, adorned with flowers and fruits—
गंधतोयेन संमिश्रमुदकाद्द्वादशोत्तरम्
With water mixed with fragrant substances, the result is twelve times greater.
योष्टांगगर्भमापूर्य भानोर्मूर्ध्नि निवेदयेत्
Filling a vessel with the eightfold ingredients, one should offer it upon the head of the Sun.
आपः क्षीरं कुशाग्राणि घृतं दधि तथा मधु
Water, milk, blades of kuśa grass, ghee, curd, and also honey—
अष्टांग एष अर्घो वै ब्रह्मणा परिकीर्तितः
This eightfold arghya is declared by Brahmā.
दातुर्वैणवपात्रेण दत्तेऽर्घ्ये यत्फलं भवेत्
The fruit that arises from offering arghya with a copper vessel—
ताम्रार्घ्यपात्रदानेन पुण्यं शतगुणं मतम् 1.163.
By giving an arghya vessel of copper, the merit is considered to be a hundredfold.
रौप्यपात्रेण विज्ञेयं लक्षार्घ्यं नात्र संशयः
By means of a silver vessel, the arghya is known as worth a hundred thousand; of this there is no doubt.
एवं स्नानार्घ्यनैवेद्यबलिधूपादिषु क्रमात्
In this way, for bathing, arghya, offering, bali, incense, and so forth, in due order—
रौप्यपात्रप्रदानेन यत्पुण्यं वेदपारगे
The merit from giving a silver vessel to one versed in the Vedas—
फलं कोटिसुवर्णस्य यो दद्याद्वेदपारगे
The fruit of a crore of gold is for one who gives to a knower of the Vedas.
सुवर्णपात्रं यो दद्याद्भास्कराय महीपते
Whoever gives a golden vessel to the Sun, O king—
