क्वचित्कलशविन्यस्तां पंकजैरुपशोभिताम्
At some places, placing a pot, adorned with lotuses.
यावद्दंडा भवेद्भूमिः समंताच्च सुशोभना
As long as the ground is measured by rods, and is beautiful all around.
कारयेच्चित्रशास्त्रज्ञैश्चित्रकर्मार्कमंदिरे
He should have artistic works made by experts in painting in the temple of the sun.
यावत्स देवरूपाणि ग्रहरूपाणि लेखयेत्
As long as he draws forms of gods and forms of planets.
भवेद्भूमिः समंताच्च यः कुर्यादर्कमंदि रम्
If someone prepares the ground so that it is level in all directions, free from unevenness,
सौरधर्मेषु पुष्पपूजावर्णनम् स्नानकाले प्रकुर्वीत जयशब्दादिमंग लम्
In the observances of the Sun, the worship with flowers is described; at the time of bathing, one should perform auspicious sounds such as the cry of victory.
पद्मस्वस्तिकशंखं तु श्रीवत्सं द्विजसत्तम
O best of twice-born, one should make the lotus, svastika, conch, and shrivatsa symbols.
नानावर्णकसंयुक्तैरक्षतैस्तिलतंदुलैः
With unbroken rice, sesame, and barley, mixed with various colors,
द्रव्यपीठप्रदीपाश्च भूताश्वत्थादिपल्लवैः
And with offerings, seats, lamps, and shoots from sacred trees such as the ashvattha,
सप्तम्यादिषु सर्वेषु षष्ठ्यादिषु विशेषतः
On all the seventh lunar days and especially on the sixth and similar days,
त्रिसन्ध्यं वेदनिर्घोषं कुर्वीत फलमुत्तमम्
One should recite the Vedic chants at the three junctions of the day; this yields the highest result.
यावन्नीराजनं कुर्यात्पर्वाणि विधिवद्रवौ
One should perform the waving of lights according to the proper rule during festivals, as long as the ritual bath is not completed.
कपिलापञ्चगव्येन कुशवारियुतेन वै
With the five products of the cow from a tawny cow, mixed with water in which kuśa grass has been placed,
यस्त्वेकमपि सर्वेब्दे ब्रह्मस्नानं प्रयच्छति
Whoever gives even one of these to all, grants the sacred bath of Brahma.
कपिलापञ्चगव्येन दधिक्षीरयुतेन च 1.163.
With the five products of the tawny cow, mixed with curd and milk,
ऋभवो वीरमुद्दिश्य देहशुद्धिं च शाश्वतीम्
The Ṛbhus, having invoked the hero, established eternal bodily purity.
कापिलं यः पिबेच्छूद्रो देवकार्यार्थनिर्मितम्
A śūdra who drinks the kapila mixture prepared for the purpose of divine service,
वर्षकोटिसहस्रेण यत्पापं समुपार्जितम्
Whatever sin has been accumulated over a hundred thousand million years,
कल्पकोटिसहस्रैस्तु यत्पापं समुपार्जितम्
Whatever sin has been accumulated over a hundred thousand million aeons,
सप्तम्यां च कृतस्नानो यजेत्सूर्यं सकृन्नरः वसुहेमादियुक्तं च क्षीरस्नानस्य तत्समम्
If a man, having bathed on the seventh lunar day, worships the Sun even once with wealth, gold, and the like, it is equal to bathing in milk.
सकृदाढकेन पयसा यो भानुं स्नाप येन्नरः
If a man bathes the Sun even once with a measure of milk,
स्नाप्य दध्ना सकृद्भानुं स त्रिलोके महीयते
He who bathes the Sun even once with curd is honored in all three worlds.
उद्धृत्य शालिपिष्टेन वायुलोकेषु पूज्यते स गोपतिपुरं गच्छेत्सर्वकामसमन्वितः
Having offered rice flour, he is worshipped in the realms of air; that person goes to the city of the lord of cows, endowed with all desires fulfilled.
फलोदकेन यो भानुं सकृत्स्नापयते नरः
Whoever bathes the Sun even once with fruit-water, O man—
श्रीखंडवारिणा स्नाप्य सकृद्भानुं नरा धिप 1.163.
Having bathed the Sun even once with sandalwood water, O ruler of men—
वस्त्रपूतेन तोयेन यद्यर्कं स्नापयेत्सकृत्
If one bathes the Sun even once with water purified by cloth—
आपो हिष्ठेति जप्येन गंगातोयेन भारत
By reciting 'āpo hiṣṭha' and using Ganges water, O descendant of Bharata—
कर्पूरागुरुतोयेन योऽर्कं स्नापयते सकृत् स कुलानेकविंशतिमुत्तार्य रविमाव्रजेत्
Whoever bathes the Sun even once with water scented by camphor and agarwood, having lifted up twenty-one generations of his lineage, attains the Sun.
पितृनुद्दिश्य यो भानुं स्नापयेच्छीतवारिणा
Whoever bathes the Sun with cool water, dedicating it to the ancestors—
भानुं शीतांबुना स्नाप्य धारोष्णपयसा सह
Bathing the Sun with cool water together with a stream of warm milk—
