दृष्टिधृष्ट्यश्च विपुलाः केशा वीरांशवः स्मृताः
His vast sight and steadfast gaze, his hair was thought to be rays of heroes.
बाहवो विदिशस्तस्य दिशः श्रोत्रे नराधिप
His arms were the directions, and his ears, O king, were the quarters.
प्रसादश्च क्षमा चैव मनो धर्मस्तथैव च
His grace, patience, mind, and righteousness were likewise present.
ग्रीवादितिर्महादेवी तालू रुद्रश्च वीर्यवान्
His neck was the great goddess, his palate was Rudra, the mighty one.
मुखं वैश्वानरश्चास्य वृषणौ च भगस्तदा
His mouth was Vaiśvānara, and his testicles were Bhaga.
पृष्ठेऽस्य वसवो देवा मरुतः सर्वसंधिषु
On his back were the Vasus, and in all his joints, the Maruts.
प्राणो रुद्रो महादेवः कुक्षौ चास्य महार्णवाः
His breath was Rudra, the great god, and his abdomen was the vast oceans.
लक्ष्मीर्मेधा धृतिः कांतिः सर्वा विद्याश्च वै कटौ
Lakshmi, wisdom, fortitude, beauty, and all knowledge were in his hips.
सर्वज्योतींषि जानीहि तपश्चक्रश्च देव राट् 1.160.
Know that all lights and the wheel of austerity are in him, O king of gods.
स्तनौ कुक्षौ च वेदाश्च तेष्टौ चास्य मखाः स्मृताः
His breasts and abdomen were the Vedas, and his six limbs were remembered as sacrifices.
सर्वदेवमयं दृष्ट्वा रूपमर्कस्य ते नृप
Seeing the form of the sun composed of all the gods, O king,
प्रणम्य शिरसा देवं वेपमाना धरां गताः
They bowed their heads to the god, trembling, and fell to the ground.
समीक्ष्य रूपं ते देव भीमं ज्वालासमाकुलम्
Having seen your terrible form, O god, filled with blazing flames,
दिग्ज्ञानं हृतमस्माकं तत्प्रसीद जगत्पते
Our understanding of direction has been taken away; be gracious, Lord of the universe.
इति तेषां वचः श्रुत्वा देवदेवो दिवाकरः
Hearing their words, the god of gods, the Sun,
दृष्टं भवद्भिर्देवेंद्रा मम सर्वजगन्मयम्
O lords of the gods, you have seen my form that is all the worlds.
एतन्मया प्रसन्नेन युष्माकं श्रेयसेऽनघाः
By my favor, O sinless ones, this has been shown for your welfare.
योगिनामपि देवेश दर्शनं ह्यस्य दुर्लभम्
O Lord of gods, even for yogis, the vision of this form is difficult to attain.
त्वामाराध्य जगन्नाथं नाप्राप्यमिह विद्यते 1.160.
By worshiping you, O Lord of the universe, there is nothing here that cannot be attained.
एवमुक्त्वाऽदितेः पुत्रो जगामादर्शनं रविः
Having spoken thus, the son of Aditi, the Sun, became invisible.
एवं ब्रह्मादयो देवाः पूजयित्वा दिवाकरम्
Thus, Brahma and the other gods, having worshiped the Sun,
सूर्यपूजाफलप्रश्नवर्णनम् नास्त्यादित्यसमो देवो नास्त्यादित्यसमा गतिः
There is no god equal to Aditya, nor is there any path equal to Aditya.
आदित्यमूलमखिलं त्रैलोक्यं नात्र संशयः
All the three worlds have their root in Aditya; there is no doubt about this.
रुद्रेंद्रोपेंद्रकेंद्राणां विप्रेंद्र त्रिदिवौकसाम्
O best of Brahmins, among Rudra, Indra, Upendra, and the lords of heaven,
सर्वात्मा सर्वलोकेशो महादेवः प्रजापतिः
He is the self of all, the lord of all worlds, the great god, the progenitor.
ततः संजायते सर्वं तत्रैव प्रविलीयते
From him everything arises, and into him all indeed dissolves.
जगज्ज्येष्ठो ग्रहो विप्र प्रदीप्तः प्रभवो रविः
O Brahmin, the Sun is the eldest planet of the world, blazing and the source of all.
क्षणा मुहूर्ता दिवसा रात्रिपक्षाश्च कृत्स्नशः
Moments, muhūrtas, days, nights, and lunar fortnights, all entirely,
स एष कालश्चाग्निश्च द्वादशात्मा प्रजापतिः
He is time, he is fire, he is the twelvefold one, the progenitor.
तस्मादस्य द्विजश्रेष्ठ पूजने यत्फलं भवेत्
Therefore, O best of twice-born, what fruit arises from his worship—
